I just cried a little on the inside... That breaks my heart to hear that, please be more careful with your precious next time.

Re: n9 washed in washing machine
Get it in a bag of rice in the airing cupboard as soon as you can, and if you can get the battery out too that's even better. Do not try and turn it on until you've dried it our for at least 3 days

Re: n9 washed in washing machine
it was turned on could it be dead cause it was turned on? or it doesn't matter and the battery could be used again? as i read that people who was able to turn their phones after the incident vibrate and then shutdown mine doesn't do anything at all!

As for specific N9/Meego advice, I don't really know, I'm new to N9s...I'm actually trying to get advice on flashing my (dead) N9 in another thread right now |
Re: n9 washed in washing machine
When wetting any electronic equipment, remove all power source if possible (battery), put in a can with silica gel (better than rice, and not really expensive).
For 2 to 4 days. Don't try to turn it on before. For you it's probably too late, but next time you'll know :( |
Re: n9 washed in washing machine
Three tips to best recover wet electronics.
Submerge in rice or better still silica gel ASAP Don't use direct heat (hairdrier etc), let it dry naturally. Don't switch it on for as long as possible, it must be completely dry. (3> days) leave it a week if you want to be sure. Good luck recovering your device. |
Re: n9 washed in washing machine
ahmedk, did you try switching it ON? Is it working now?

Re: n9 washed in washing machine
I am sorry to hear that, I don't think it can be repairable, please, when you buy another phone, be careful with it.. Especially when it is an N9..

Re: n9 washed in washing machine
for future drowning cases: i once learned to flush the water out of electronics by dipping it in pure denaturalized alcohol. It drives the water out of the device, preventing it from rusting in the long run. After that you should let it dry, like described above.
good luck... |

The white spots on the circuits below is what is left from letting the water dry. This guy on the picture was lucky enough that the circuits was on the underside of the card , and that the water thanks to gravity dried on the plastics and not on the circuitboard. |

Re: n9 washed in washing machine
Correct. Deionised water is a perfect insulator, IIRC (20Mohms/10mm).
It's safe to say the washing machine was hooked up to a tap water supply. Even leaving out the detergent, this isn't a good insulator and as mentioned is full of minerals etc. which will leave residue. If you were to try to remove water from a device with alcohol what would be the best way to go about it? I am imagining stripping it all down and using Q tips. |

And most components on the circuitboard is alcoholresistant, since it is standard to wash circuitboards in alcohol directly after machinesoldering. The most common alcohol used for cleaning is isopropanol or "technical alcohol" as it also is called, but denaturated ethanol would be okay too if that is the only thing that is close by. Q-tip or toothbrushes is more something i would use when it already has dried once, but i dont really believe a cellphone is possible to save after the water has dried once, since it is so small components and circuittraces on it. |
Re: n9 washed in washing machine
Thanks.
Iso-propyl Alcohol (for those that aren't sure were to buy it) is available in electronics stores. It's also known as IPA (not Indian Pale Ale). :p In the UK places like Maplin sell it. |
Re: n9 washed in washing machine
yes bathe it in alcohol, then let it air dry, and blow dry it with medium heat for 20 minutes. if that doesn't work, you've done all you could
