Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
Like I said about MeeGo Harmattan. Microsoft would do anything to kill it off in favor of Windows Mobile, and they did by seriously restricting it's availability and Steve (Monkeyboy) Ballmer has made it clear that he's out to kill off open source.
Suggested figures indicate that the N9 outsold Nokia's Windows devices, and probably would have continued to do so if it was shipped in quantity worldwide. My guess is they're trying to muscle in on something else. But what? some sort of Alien Dalvic type of integration? |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
Most likely just the Navteq division and Nokia Location Products, hiring. They aren't doing too bad and have contracts for many embedded devices like location services for cameras and cars, as well as enterprise middleware. Many of these are linux based. Also Navteq makes location middleware for app developers for both Android and iOS
Here' one such Navteq job in Sunnyvale CA http://www.creativeheads.net/job/105...o-in-sunnyvale "The Augmented Reality Product Manager will be principally responsible for developing and driving the 24 month product and technology roadmap to support Nokia’s Augmented Reality Strategy. Specifically, you will be responsible for identifying markets, designing products, managing growth, and working with various teams to deliver key products that push the edge of AR technology on mobile devices, As part of this role, you’ll define prioritized list of needs that match both customer requirements and future trends, and work with a wide variety of internal departments to move products from the idea-level to revenue-generating elements of the portfolio. This role requires significant internal collaboration with Marketing, Legal and Business Affairs, and R&D. A wide range of skills – including technical acumen, strong interpersonal skills, and a keen focus on shipping great products – is critical to success in this role. " |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
Could also be that they are trying to step up the map battle for Android with a nokia maps option. Or more wishful thinking maps for tizen, sailfish other Linux oses.

Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
Probably creating a Windows Linux hybrid.
Winsux. :p |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
Yes, because hiring one linux guy in a company like Nokia means instantly Nokia is jumping for Android.... huoh. I mean a company with 120 000 people working might just need couple of linux guys laying around for support sake alone.
But i guess BGR or whoever started this got their clicks so i guess that's enough. |

Elop probably hired him to put the blame on him for everything and confirm again that windows was the only solution.

Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
A new maemo-meego-tizen-sailfish phone would be great.
a kind of mix between the n9 and the n900. Slim, keyboard, good camera, opensource, packages. This is what i call a good phone, the lumia serie suck. They selled more n900 and n9 than all their windows phones.... Nobody give a poop about having viruses on their phones |

Yee Gods, this used to be a hangout of the free and tech-minded. Nowadays we are fludded (sic) by comedians :-)
|
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
It's flooded with elitists as well.
|
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
why don't they replaced all the symbian phones with meego or maemo.????
|
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
I know they probably won't see this, but I hope they could at least use maemo developing as an exercise or at least open source something to us.
|
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
well i doubt it will be in continuation of maemo or meego ... "marketing-aly" speaking ...
maybe, related to android ? the offer mentioned java and c++ ... well let's wait and see , all my focus is on jolla and tizen for now |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?

Along mer , tizen is the only remaining open "active" linux platform , and dont forget that both are the offspring of meego \o/ ... |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
you can still run Mer on the n900, which is good.
The n900 isn't dead, and it will never be. |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
I really don't know what to think.
Could it be drivers for upcoming peripherals to be Linux compatible? |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
Or... Now this is thinking out of the box here...
It could just be natural turn-over and they are wanting to fill an existing role? Maybe some average joe left and they want to fill his place. |

Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
nokia keeps few linux developers still around, like GSstreamer team, few software engineers.
i think this is for nokia maps for android, but dont rule out posibility of them going android in q1 2013, when 920 fails |

@ least for the general public. companies may have a different look at it, with the possibility to manage all devices (desktops, laptops and mobiles) from one (grid of) Systems Management Server (aka SMS). some companies already tried that a few years ago when v!$t0 come out with LostDOS im-Mobilized devices >¦-)))) might be an attractive alternative to having to manage a brew of Android, iOS, BB and maybe even Symbian devices  and let's not forget Samsung eventually coming out with Tizen  and who knows, maybe even Jolla devices  if anything, and depending on how Sailfish... sails :D NOKIA may actually get "its" ex-employees back :| that is simply buy Jolla. as to the OP: more likely to be along MINKIN2 or jo21's line, simply needing a Linux engineer  |
Re: Nokia hiring Linux programmers again?
quoting "Experience in native API / JNI development" I've worked on this on android ... pretty sure the job is related to android ... or maybe a qt/java wrapper like jambi , who knows ?
