overheat and malfunction to power the N900
hello people, i'm kinda new over here. So i would like to have some answer to my problem which is related to my phone.
I've been noticing my Nokia N900 has a unsual increased in heat during the afternoon. I thought it was temporarily as i ignored it. Around evening i played games as Angry birds for 30 mins and the phone was function at it's peak with no problems. Around night the phone got overheat again, when i tried to tap the screen i noticed it was off. Possibly i tried to switch it on and it failed. I waited few minutes for it to cool down but it seems to remained the same and i cant switch it on at all. I took out the cover and the battery and kept them discharged for 30 minutes. And I placed the battery and power it on. It works as usual now. Anyone has opinion regarding this matter? I would like to avoid this from happening again. Im just having a slight probability if it has to do with speakers system which i bough yesterday. the details of the speaker are Sonic Gear Evo8 Pro. thanks again. Your reply are much appreciated. |
Re: overheat and malfunction to power the N900
Pulseaudio uses a good chunk of CPU when you are playing music, there are a few threads on maemo that discuss this - your phone will heat up as a result.
If you find your phone locking up and not wanting to start again, what works for me is simply to remove the battery briefly, insert, and then hit the power again. Also you can just persevere with holding the power button down - seems like the 3rd press can sometimes bring it back to life - though all of this is subjective, it might just be that there is some process or function running for a short while that needs to die, reset, or activate... YMMV. : ) A good idea is to make use of your xterm and use the command "top" to see what might be eating up your CPU. You can then kill the process if it seems abnormal. |

Re: overheat and malfunction to power the N900
Depends on the environment mostly I think.
When not being used mine tends to idle at a few degrees above room temperature - 36 degrees C right now. (I live in the tropics) If I watch movies or listen to music, it gets a little warmer, somewhere in the mid 40's. There isn't a whole lot of information about the environmental operating range - though the L1 & L2 service manual says you shouldn't allow the battery to get hotter than 60 degrees C so I'd imagine it'd be somewhere around that point. Mine is clocked to 1GHz - I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. |
