KAGU desktop applet?

as I am using KAGU quite often recently:

I have the two nice small applets for FM-Radio and Internet-Streaming (MediaPlayer) on my desktop and switch between those two frequently.

It would be just too cool to have another small applet next to those two, which allows me to start/stop the last playlist (or song, or album) I used in KAGU without having to open the full app.
So just Start/Pause/Stop buttons...

any chance?

You should add your feature request to the Kagu Tracker:

No, please don't do that. We don't use it. I've opened a ticket for this idea: https://www.guardiani.us/projects/ka...et/104#preview

Our devs are interested, but no promises.

If you'd like to suggest an idea, a forum thread or post on an existing kagu thread are just fine.

trevarthan,

of course no promises. I just was hoping for a ticket by posting this...
THANK YOU for adding it, you and the team are doing GREAT!

cheers, karl.

Re: KAGU desktop applet?

OK, I did some research, and it looks like this will have to be a C/C++ applet as the python desktop applet functionality isn't available yet. I can do C/C++, but I'm waaaaaaaaay out of practice, and I've never done C/C++ GTK. Is anyone from the community interested in stepping up to do a separate Kagu Desktop Applet project in C/C++?

The Kagu project will need to finish this ticket before the applet is capable of doing more than start/stop/play/pause/next/prev. But we can add that functionality to Kagu rather quickly if anyone is interested in writing the applet.

Any takers? Pretty please?

Is there any documentation about what DBUS messages Kagu supports? So far I've managed to code up a C application which sends a message to Kagu, such that it starts Kagu if it is not already running.

Thanks

Graf

Not really. You can check out maemo.py and ossoplayer.py for examples of the stuff it sends/receives. We don't have anything custom tailored for a desktop applet yet. But we'd be happy to add it if someone is working on a desktop applet. What do you need?

I was just thinking of doing start/stop/play/pause/next/prev. I'm just getting started on learning to develop for Maemo, and this seemed like an interesting little project to begin with. Maybe it would be nice to get the name of the currently playing track, but I can't think of anything else you'd want in a desktop applet without it turning into bloatware.

OK, you can use the `kagu --remote play|pause|next|prev` interface for that.
