Re: Xournal 0.4.1 coming to OS2008/Chinook

dubwise, ShyBoy, debernardis, and anidel, thank you for your posts! I figured I might need to clean some stuff up. I had reflashed and in the process of reinstalling I installed practically every repository listed in gronmayer.com for os2008. I think that introduced a bunch of conflicts that have shown up in various little ways. gnumeric is installed so that's probably a problem too.

How do I know if I've used all of my application installation space? The internal card is mostly unused and I have plenty of space on an external card. Where do apps get installed? rootfs? (...probably should search to answer that).

Thank you again,
Frank

Re: Xournal 0.4.1 coming to OS2008/Chinook

Apps get installed in the internal 256 megs, unless you dual boot or extend root onto a card.
Control Panel|Memory|Device tells what's left.

Hi Guys, I am so happy to have Xournal working (partially... but...) on my device, however when I use it to annotate PDF, it worked just fine on some slideshows from powerpoint, but not on (most) tech papers. It displays only the bitmaps in the PDF and nothing else. Do you also encounter this? or did I mass up anything - I guess the postscript package?

@FGol
to know how much free space you have on your root file system, open an xterm and give the df command.
You'll get something like this:

~ $ df
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/mmcblk0p2 2048 2048 0 100% /mnt/initfsnone 512 168 344 33% /mnt/initfs/tmp
/dev/mmcblk1p2 990200 463028 476872 49% /
none 512 168 344 33% /tmp
none 1024 28 996 3% /dev
tmpfs 1024 0 1024 0% /dev/shm
/dev/mmcblk1p1 7969280 4202016 3767264 53% /media/mmc1/dev/mmcblk0p1 958112 401564 556548 42% /media/mmc2

The row you are interested in is the one ending with "/".
Here I have 49% free only because I cloned my root on a 1 GB partition from my internal flash memory.
It's true that installing all those useful programs the 256 MB of the default root file system get quickly consumed.

Re: Xournal 0.4.1 coming to OS2008/Chinook

Thank you - I had used the df command before but wasn't sure where apps got installed. Checking the "/" space was a good (and perhaps obvious? oops) clue for me. I think though you've used 49% and have 51% available.

My root has 93% used. In thinking about running out of space I had repartitioned my 2GB internal to 1.6 and .4GB to relly open up available application space. I ended up installing KDE for fun (I don't really use it though) so thus I've used 93% already. I saw Penguinbait has made available a tar for ICEWM4...maybe I'll drop KDE and add that and save about 1.2GB for things like lots and lots of Xournal data. ;-)

Thank you,
Frank

What is ghostscript used for? I installed xournal and removed ghostscript (ignore switch) and I've been exporting to pdf & annotating them fine without the massive 33MB package.

Re: Xournal 0.4.1 coming to OS2008/Chinook

In order to test gnumeric without deinstalling xournal, I superficially hacked libgoffice-0-6 from the tschmidt repository, changing its dependency from libart to the version coming with Anidel's xournal port.
If you want it to play with gnumeric while keeping xournal, get it at http://www.debernardis.it/n800/libgo...ked_by_edb.deb

BEWARE I only changed nominally the version of libart it needs in the control file, but I did not recompile it. So far, gnumeric seems to like it but in the long run this might not stand true and any kind of trouble might appear - so your mileage may vary. Don't forget to uninstall it the time that xournal, gnumeric and whatelse will share a common libart.

If you want to experiment, you must have tschmidt repository in your application manager to get the needed dependencies. Then, I would fire an xterm, become root and:

apt-get install libgoffice-0-6-common libpcre3 #(they're dependencies of libgoffice-0-6)
dpkg -i <path to the hacked libgoffice-0-6>
apt-get install gnumeric

Let me know if there are problems. Most likely, there will be some. I reject any legal responsability for them!

EDIT: april 8th, 2008 - the new port of Xournal makes this stuff obsolete, because has reconciled its dependencies with the official repositories.

I am having the same issue. Is there an optimal pdf setting?

:D

UPDATE: The port of Xournal 0.4.1 to Maemo is at its 5th release. You can find it in the OS2008 Downloads section of the Meamo site.

Anidel,

I've been using your app since December. The lastest version ROCKS!!!!
Many many thanks, Bro. Keep up the great work. I had to uninstall gnumeric because it would not let me update xournal. I use KDE office so not much of a loss. Dan
