Found this on internet, available for 30-35€. Looks good.

Mini usb output, maybe an extra adapter is necessary for N800.

Has this ($75 = rather expensive) DealExtreme "Lithium 8800mAh USB and AC Universal External Power Battery Set" been mentioned by anyone yet? It seems to have a LOT of storage in a unit about the same size/weight as an N800:

Since one of the reviewers mentions using it with a Nokia N80 (phone), I would imagine that it has the correct 2mm power tip for the N800. It also has a USB option, and a nice variety of voltage output settings.

Somebody should buy two, test one of them -- and report the findings, and send me the other :)

The Tekkeon MP1550 is less than half the size of the N800 and can hold 10000mah (if you use 4xAA 2500mah NiMH rechargeables) and it costs <$50 including batteries. If you use Sanyo eneloops (4x2000mah=8000mah) it will stay charged for years between uses so its always ready to go.

No, the MP1550 can only hold 2500mah since you need 4 batteries to get up to 5v.

petergunn, the MP1550 is wired in series so that the 1.2V batteries in it can reach 4.8V to power the device. When wired in series, the capacity does not get multiplied, just the voltage does. See here.

Given that four AA batts, in series, will get up to the required 4.8 volts... does the use of higher mAh batteries translate to longer overall pack life?

Yes, switching to larger capacity batteries (more mAh) translates into longer battery life.

Don't worry, I made the exact same comment you did when I was trying to find an external battery pack for my Dell Axim X30 a couple years ago.
