Its a 1ghz snapdragon. Worth noting of course that the native speed of the n900 chip is 1ghz, its throttled for battery life (and one imagines heat). The 1gb of ram is 256mb + virtual as far as i understand it from a couple of articles.

The screen real estate is nice i agree but way to much phone size (length and width) for my liking.

Of course the real killer for me is the os. I am never going back to winblows mobile.

Nope. T-Mo was late to the 3G party, but the advantage to that is their network equipment is much more modern and easier to tune up.

You're talking about the HTC Leo/HD2/HTC Touch HD2 phone, correct?

All I can say is...

There is absolutely no way I would get that phone or any other phone that runs Windows. :p

The N900 appeals to me not because of its processor or RAM, but because it is open. I would buy it even if it had inferior hardware (which I do not believe is the case at all). The Nokia NXXX series supports my personal freedoms better than any other device of this type on the planet. There is nothing more important than that (for me).

I was unaware that it was underclocked, most of the things I've read said it was just 600, not underclocked like the iPhone 3GS (833, underclocked to 600).

Also I don't know how to compare speeds between say the n900's chip, to the snapdragon, to x86 (I know that x86 and ARM are different).

But anyway, it could probably be overclocked, at the risk of battery life, heat and melting your device. =P

It's really not. ;) The OMAP3430 is rated for 600MHz. Even then, locking it above 500MHz is likely to cause damage. The 1GHz number you're getting is about the Cortex A8 reference design, which doesn't tell you much about specific silicon. ;)

You would even melt your desktop CPU (Pentium, etc.) if you run it at max load all the time. So, I would guess that a device like this is designed to slow down the frequency when the demand warrants doing so. And I would guess that there is a concept like "duty cycle" in the design...

Correct. During his lightning session this afternoon, Igor specifically warned against locking the processor at 500 or 600 MHz. Doing so will burn out the N900.
