Hej! Jag mår bra, hoppas du också gör det! :)

I added a Swedish version. Unlike my signature I made a straight (or as close as I could) translation of the original English version.

I really like this idea. However, I wanted to point out one shortcoming to the approach of putting a pile of links in your signature: if the set of useful links changes, you now have a pile of greeters with outdated signatures. What about encouraging people to link to a single editable "links for newcomers" page, perhaps on the wiki?

I don't mean to suggest that no variation should exist in the Maemo Greeter signature; certainly people should feel free to customize it, personalize it, add localized variants for the languages they speak, and so on. I just wonder if the list of links ought to become a single link.

Thoughts?

Actually josh I've been slowly working on that.

Ideally I would see two main links being useful: one to the newcomer's wiki page and one to the Greeters' wiki page. All else could stem from there (maybe a language disambiguity page as well... thinking about that).

I did some minor work on the Greeters' page (many, many huge thanks to smarsh for starting it!) and have more planned. When it's done, this goes from pilot to full-bore implementation.

Anyway your comments are certainly welcome and I do intend to incorporate them!

That sounds reasonable. However, the signature would need to make sure that newcomers don't follow the link to the "become a greeter" page and get confused. :)

As for language, I think the benefits and comfort of seeing your native language in the signature of a Maemo Greeter override the goal of not duplicating information. So, I'd say greeters who speak multiple languages fluently should feel free to copy multiple localized links to localized wiki pages into their signature. I just think we should have at most one link for a given language, which leads to a page with the most important information and links to additional pages.

Awesome. You've done some amazing work driving this project; I think it'll help new users a lot, which makes the community stronger, which helps all of us.

The other link I think has been really useful is the one to my PM box... I've had all sorts of questions and the like thrown at me by that method from people who like to ask an individual person rather the whole board. It's done me good as I've often had to go and find answers!

Thanks Kathy, I needed to be reminded of that!

I am kindly asking greeters to create more content to wikipedia. There is a hell lot of undocumented stuff (read: random replies at tmo) and nothing new has happened to wiki for ages.

the part I am mostly interested in is:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Troubleshooting

I bet that pasting that link is easier than total spoonfeeding. but it requires the page to be improved.. ..a lot.

so please go ahead, I'll do what I can.

got a little torn @ rotator culf (shoulder) so now I have more time to be active instead of sports etc.

Thanks ossipena. I recently added a bit of info and will be doing more.

Re: Maemo Greeters Pilot

Sorry for letting this slip; I was hyperfocused on community outreach and man what a time-sucker that's been!

But I want to report that in the last sprint call there was no opposition to me declaring Maemo Greeters as fully implemented, so it's now official: this is not a pilot. ;)

There remains some work as we know and that will be managed as new tasks/subtasks. I will soon create a new thread and request it be made a sticky-- further discussion will take place there. I also intend to start conducting get-togethers on IRC or other similar means.

Again I want to thank everyone participating. Maemo Greeters has been a resounding success (as evidenced by RevdKathy's high karma, despite her protests ;)). There are still detractors who scoff at the value, so let's continue proving them wrong! At the very least, all you have to do is keep posting with helpful signature content... :)
