In-car use is not just about voice dialing (that I also miss a lot), but also

To my Parrot 3000 Car cit i can't send vCard from N900 by bluetooth. N900 don't support send vcard to CarKit and it disabled voice dialing by Parrot too.

You can use Petrovich to send vCard via Bluetooth - See link in my previous post!

i agree that also would be nice to have a better integration with car systems bluetooth. But thats more of another request/missing feature because you could use even wired headset if you want in your car and still want to use voice dialing. (Or just a bluetooth ear piece..)

I have come to the conclusion that maemo being open source nokia hope for developers and community to create these add ons for the phone.
I for one miss many 'regular' phone features and just keep my fingers crossed that new apps appear in the repos or mabye they will be added by Nokia in firmware updates!

If I had the faintest idea what to do I would probably create apps myself but unfortunatley I dont .... thumbs up to all developers who create apps such as shortcutd, message widgit etc etc

Re: Poll - do you want voice dialing on the N900

YES PLEASE!

It seems that many of those who say no have never tried it before, so don't understand how useful voice control can be.

Furthermore, others have been frustrated by a poor implementation, and don't realise how convenient it can be when done well.

Re: Are there almost no people using the N900 in a car? (voice dialing)

In the past 15 years of cell phone usage, I think I needed to dial someone while driving about three or four times, and that happened while I was stucked in a traffic jam where I wouldn't endanger anyone, including myself, by taking a brief look at a phone screen (and I didn't even need to look hanks to the haptic feedback of real buttons and speed dial).

Most of my past cell phones had that ability and I never used it. Frankly, I really can't think of a situation where that missing feature would be a dealbreaker, or even high enough on my list of priorities to even care. Additionally, since I'm living in a country where English is not the main language, most of the names are really weirdly pronounced when interpreted by standard English patterns, so the best I could do with voice dialing is to dial the number itself, and I gave up on the habit of remembering phone numbers long, long time ago... I have yet to see a good voice dialing in my mother tongue even tho it utilizes the simplest form possible for a computer interpretation out there (it's a a phonemic language).

Is there nobody driving a car and then you want to dial someone? Here in my country if i would pickup the phone to dial somebody (even if i have a blue tooth headset) i could already get a fine (about 170 euro!!) if i would be caught doing that.. Not to mention that it is just dangerous ..

I know i am not the only one also Michal of http://my-maemo.com/ has the same thing as i have (http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopi...=375491#375491). But we seem to be in a very small minority which i just cant believe..

I've never used voice dialing in my life to make a p hone cal (I usually have all my contacts on speed dial so I could just use tactile feedback to hit the correct number key). Anytime I've tried using voice dialing it would just fail terrible so I gave up on it. Obviously with the N900 there's no way you can do speed dial like that. Though if I do need to make a call I usually wait till I am at a stop, click on the contact shortcut on the desktop (since there are only 4 people I really am likely to call and just put it on speakerphone). Though I rarely talk on the phone when driving (heck I rarely talk on the phone at all lol).

Re: Are there almost no people using the N900 in a car? (voice dialing)

on my e90 i used voice dialing about once a day.
and i am also not a native english speaker (dutch) but it works almost 100% accurate!

the only place i use voice dial is in my car and nowhere else but there it is so handy. just press the dial button the the steerking wheel or a headset, call the name and it dials.

normally in my car the N900 is on the charger and because of that it is even way more dangerous to get my phone in my hands because of the wires.
dont forget that there are a lot of persons constantly in the car and the most calls they make is in the car.
