Re: N9 video chat: Nokia-derived XMPP/Jingle(Gtalk) or Skype, & 3rd-party options

I tried the front cam video chat once on a spotty 3G connection at work. took two attempts, but I could see my contact on screen as well as myself in the bottom right corner but they could not see me at all. They were using a browser based Gtalk session on their laptop. Will try again this weekend from a stronger network spot.

Also tried another test between 2 Gtalk accounts I have on a laptop and the N9 in the same spotty 3G area at work. I could never get either side to show both video screens at once (that is: the main window for the contact and the other, smaller local feed). I gave up after 3 tries.

I'm not convinced these aren't just network issues on my end yet, so will try more.

I found the clarity of both windows to be fine with the front facing camera. It was smooth for me when it actually displayed something.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Both you and your intended contact must be logged onto the Gtalk service.

Additionally, your target contact must be logged into a video chat capable device, like a laptop or iPhone, to show the video call as an option.

These sames stipulations applied to Skype video calls on the N900.

Plus running video call capable XMPP client with that.

Thanks for the feed-back!
Look forward to reading about other users experiences with the GTalk client.

Still trying to get something out of the Peregrine devs, I won't leave them alone this time.
They've been ignoring me for some time in IRC, but I will persist ;)

So apparently there's a new update that's just come out, anyone tried it yet?
It sounds like a minor one but some nice improvements, please let us know!

I doubt that's gunna happen, there was never talk of that ever, even from the very beginning.

Was this meant as a reply to "3g video calls"?
If so: saying "there was never talk of that" its somewhat.... well, irritating? After all, "support for video calls" was everywhere where PR1.2 was discussed. It was one of the central and most anticipated features.

As I understand it, that was in the context of support for video-chat, not video-calls.
From the very beginning I don't recall there being a shred of info. to suggest 3G video was coming.
I do agree that it would be nice extra though...
Have you used GTalk yet, what do you like/dislike about it compared to other video-chat offerings?
