Re: Canonical announces Ubuntu for smartphones, we go hands-on

I've updated the article about Ubuntu Touch on Nexus 4, with June and July versions. See the portuguese-br version, or the english translation.

Some new features :
- flipped images where Android is inside Ubuntu (LXC container), so there is no need of chroot to enter Ubuntu;
- Ubuntu Touch 13.10;
- screenshots available via 'adb shell /system/bin/screencap';
- 'File Manager', 'System Settings', Terminal, etc now preinstalled.

Here some preinstalled softwares :

The new 'System Settings' where only some features are functional :

Looks very awesome!

Ubuntu looks more "complete" than sailfish, but sailfish is more "complete" than ubuntu. Strange world.

AFAIK, no. It does need the Android drivers though, I think?

IIRC Android HAL resp. at least their GPU drivers via libhybris?

Yeah, Android runs inside Ubuntu, in a LXC container. Ubuntu uses libhybris to access Android drivers (GPU, etc).

The advantage of Ubuntu Touch is the availability of supported devices (Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10), where we can really (easily) installand use Ubuntu Touch.

But many features of Ubuntu Touch needs to be improved until October 2013.

In my opinion, Sailfish OS shown in videos is more polished and finished than Ubuntu Touch until now (July 2013).
