Re: Waited 1 year for N900, but some more days of tinkering may be required
i didnt read the thread properly its late here
cherry can be removed cutetube for youtube videos operamini for fb or news/article reading with a gazzilion tabs and multiple instances get a 1500mah battrey and never complain about 3g as battrey life in 3g is crazy depends upon bandwith used distance from base etc no need to use maemo.org applet as ham is ok or you can use maemo.org to install the same 720p works to some extent but i say dont bother with it at the moment better convert your videos which you like to watch on n900 for maps try modrana its good and updated if you can handle it i.e works nice but when i switched it felt like a new operating system to me frankly use the terminal for stuff you cant manage with ham as you are new and yes the terminal is fine like a dextop unup works i need to look how my n900 manages it hostmode can be installed from ham and it works too just less bandwith if you plan to transfer large files install openmedia player from ham as i feel its better than the stock one for hotspot if you need use qtmobilehotspot install opera mobile works nice on many sites but if you need stuff like bluemaemo its better to install it in freshly flashed system as installing it is a headache afterwards but before all that do a full flash and upgrade to cssu stable or testing as there are a lot of updates and very noticeable improvents to stuff like ham most important ask clearly whatever you ask so that willing people enjoy helping you thanx good night |

Re: Waited 1 year for N900, but some more days of tinkering may be required
Hi,
sorry to answer late but I lost my answer yesterday and didn't have the courage to retype everything. Thanks for the explanations about what is HAM, ok I see what it is, I will use it. For the repos, I already removed the Nokia obsolete ones and added (or maybe it was when I installed the CSSU) the ones from maemo.org Ok for the password for root, I'll see all of that when I can start the phone again. So, I think you're right pichlo (and the others), we got lost a bit, to sum up everything the problems at the moment: 1.Charging issues 2."noob" questions 3."Making a good setup" questions So, I indeed have 3 batteries, one from the first N900 (bought in paris), this one is dead (30' of autonomy max), then there is the battery bought off ebay, this one is new, holds charge well (almost two days of normal use), and the last one, the battery from t-b's N900, this one supported one full day of intense use (Bluetooth, Wifi and 3.5G modem were enabled at some moments), there used to be no problem with charged batteries, however I'm having some difficulties starting the phone at the moment. To charge all those batteries, I have the internal N900 charger that worked one time with a usb/µusb charging only cable plugged to my PC, all the others times, either the N900 freezes and shut down with display problems either it shows a NOKIA boot screen with no backlight and the status led blinking yellow (but not charging). I also have TP4056 lithium battery chargers, they work well with some wires and alligator clips. I'll charge all the two working batteries I have to full potential and I'll test the N900 again because I'm getting worried about that, I'll also try to find a good quality charger, something like 5V 1A, I belive I have some in the basement So I hope it was understandable and concise |

Ok.
I think there is a slight comm issue here. Good.- You understand ham is there...use it until you read whatever pertinent write-ups by whomever on whatever stating "use apt" or the command line in xterm or whatever. Then follow their screw-up-proof instructions EXACTLY... if whatever you wish to do could burn you...don't do it. Until you are super-savvy and feel comfortable with understanding exactly the instructions whomsoever is giving...THEN go for it. Otherwise stick to ham for a while.. Questionably so-so .- I did not say repos from maemo.org. (although nothing wrong with them) I said maemo-repos.com all the cat.'s you need...even the gone - obsoleted nokia ones (if you need anything from them) are there highlit in blue...ready to click-install. Bad ...very very very bad - I do not suggest in any way ever... charging batteries in a method that hasn't been thoroughly tested, approved and recommended. Get proper bl5j batteries. Get proper bl5j chargers. Very simple. I personally would never use anything else for the possibility of ruining the battery and harming the device Actually on the topic of charging... slightly off (immediate) topic... I just recently ran into this. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Kaito-KA720-A...QAAOSwymxVQsjR which seems quite smart... since standard wind-up chargers are very sketchy when it is a must in keeping the cranking consistent to provide the charge properly...(something which made me shy away from such chargers since playing with one...) this charger stores the cranked charge in an onboard internal batt. for use when needed... a much better and safer method of charge transference in my opinion. |
Re: Waited 1 year for N900, but some more days of tinkering may be required
I have great use of an external charger that charges the battery directly, outside the phone

Re: Waited 1 year for N900, but some more days of tinkering may be required
Fine overview nazmi, that helps.
I have no idea what a good or bad charger is for your N900. I just play it safe (like endsormeans) and use the default Nokia charger. When I buy a 2nd hand phone, after playing around with it for a while, I always flash the device. That is to bring the device into the 'factory' state. Then you can at least rule out software as a (contributing) cause of an issue. |

It is the "Faster Application Manager" Indeed much faster than HAM and with some nice features, thou as fellow mewmo* i would need your all explanaition to why that is... Is Fapman only a shrunk down UI to the same features HAM uses or how is the speed increase achieved? *(TM) endsormeans |
Re: Waited 1 year for N900, but some more days of tinkering may be required
1stly-...
to all maemoans... Newmo (TM-patent pending) is cool to refer to without all the mumbojumbo...ie- the tm patentpending blablabla... but ONLY by maemo members... Nonmo's (TM-patent pending) (definition- someone who isn't a maemo member at all...essentially the rest of humanity..) MOST definitely had better add that lil' tm sumthin-sumthin at the end of any mention of newmo's or now nonmo's (TM- patent pending) (too many freakin new terms...) :D Fap is great... but I know from my time using it ... It can be problematic.... haven't used it for a while now... unless those issues have been fixed.. I wouldn't bother... take the time and install stuff properly... no big rush... hence I suggest ham. same goes for the suggestion to use class 4 cards instead of class 10 cards... sure class 10 is quick... but it isn't better than a class 4. I find the class 4 better for reading and writing to. There are many threads here talking about the topic. |
