Thanks but I was waiting to get things straight so as not to have too many buyers that do not understand the mod. You would be surprised at some of the questions I get via email. When the new mods are completed and all is tested I will post them on EBAY and others. I was praying that the Blogs did not get it. I am doing this in my spare time for now and do not want it to become a business.

I am more interested in getting help with software than I am worried about sales right now.

As you can see from the VMware and the Android ports the tablets are here to stay for a while. It is just a matter of time till many people wish they had one of the N8XX tablets. I think it will be one of the most hacked (Supported) devices around. I think this mostly because of the price, the Keyboard and perfect size. Also think because most MIDs are running full Windows OS and they have limited battery life.

After thinking about it if it works as expected on the N810 it will not be hard to adapt it to the N800

The new mod should elevate the software capabilities and make it an extremely fun device.

My next project after this add-on will make the N810 one of the most useful devices around. I decided I want a really cool device that is way ahead of everything else even though it is more than a year old. “ Stick around”

Thanks

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

32GB SD are right now still expensive (90 EUR), and a 64GB SD won't come. I think if the 32GB SD cards were less expensive this mod would also be more popular. Together with the fact N810 is still sold, I think there is some potention till RX-51 is released and hyped.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

The reason I have not followed up on this mod is because I don't have a lot of media. :-/ My ipod is 2gb and not full. 8gb + 2gb so far is about 3x more than I need. Craves1's other project though is definitely piquing my interest.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

some people might not want this mob because they think 8 or 16gb are enough for them. but crave1 new project the tilt sensor is very interesting and still they need the mod in order to use the tilt sensor and up coming crave1 new project.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

For those who sent me email to ask is there still some kits available the answer is yes. It can still be purchased for now until they are all gone. There are some kits left with the metal door still available. I will always have them without the metal door. There are a limited amount of Stainless Steel and Black covers left.

Thanks

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

There are some adapters available but not many.

There is very little interest now since the thread was moved to accessories. I guess like me most readers do not come here like the old N810 general area.

For those who purchased in the past thanks for the support of this project. I have many positive email and no negative ones.

I think you probably just need to bump the thread every so often, there's lots of new N810 owners coming here now that they are $200 or less. If the thread sits dormant too long, people forget...

What about a page on the wiki for community-made accessories? These kits and jolouis' USB OTG adapters come to mind immediately...

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

Just to keep the thread alive :D I bought myself the adapter + cover, works well. Dont have a 32 gb sd card yet though. Unfortunately my n810 touch pad is dead, so have opened it up using the screw drivers that came with the sd adapter, and cleaned up a bit, but touch screen is still dead. More drastic operations are required...

Are these still available? Very interested in getting it with the mugen battery.

I have the 32gb adapter + an mugen 3600mha battery and could not be more happy. Music, lots of gpodder videos, mm maps, some full length divx everything fits now. I think the whole device runs a little better now that I save to a full size sd card.

Consider buying this adapter.

I love my mod too. The only thing I hate is that the mod makes it to big for my car holder. :(

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

Yeah, but the extra thickness makes gaming with VGBA better :)
I picked up a large universal mount. Window suction cup and a grip that exends with 4 padded arms to hold the 810. Works great for Canola. A bit of a PITA for Maemo Mapper, but I have a Garmin for GPS so it doesn't bother me.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

Ya know, I'm wondering if there's a way someone could develop the 7mm metal cover needed for the extended battery. Maybe the OP could, since this is his mod. I know he said it's too expensive, but I say, so what? If it's too expensive for you to produce, then just post the cad drawings and allow us to take it down to a metal shop and have it made ourselves. I know a couple local shops that'll do it for like $20 plus materials. :) All I need is the cad drawing.

There should be a few of us with the mugen 3600 and this mod. If we all ask craves to produce a couple of them maybe the pricetag would not be too high. And craves can get some money for all his work. I am willing to pay 40-50 bucks for a good quality metal back cover. Im seeing loong use of my n810 with Mer and other projects coming along.

keeping the thread current,

I purchased the adapter with stainless steel cover 1.2 months ago, before i actually got my n810. Now that i have it (got the n810 two days ago!) I'M SO LOVE WITH IT, now I'm just waiting on the 32gb sd card I orderd to really allow me to enjoy the functionalty of my tablet... just a quick question, will it be better to save all my programs and or data to the External memory (32gb) or leave it on the Internal ( which i expaned from the 256mb to 512mb to make room for all the programs. I was reading through all these threads and I'm still not quite sure if moving programs to the external allows the device to operate faster/better. sorry for asking here, If you know or can direct me to the specific thread that may help, please do. :o

Thank you so much craves1! for this product you were very nice and it was a pleasure doing business with you.

Well, he said his reasons for not doing it was that it would be prohibitively expensive. I would honestly like to see what his idea of "prohibitively expensive" would be, and what the minimum number of units sold would need to be before he'd actually break even. From there we could decide if it's practical enough to do.

Given the price of stamping and stainless steel sheetmetal, it couldn't be all *THAT* expensive. The 4mm back plate is only $25 apiece if bought separately. So a 7mm, which isn't really all that much more steel, shouldn't be much more than $30, maybe $35.

fragos 2009-07-15 18:56

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

I would think a tool/die must be constructed and each time a run of back plates is built there will be a setup charge. Clearly low quantities become very expensive.

It is not just a matter of stamping out sheet metal. The unit must have the latches placed exactly or it will not work. Each tablet is different enough to make this very difficult.

I had this made overseas and the setup cost for the current version was still over $4,000.00. I also needed to purchase 500 pieces and they wanted me to purchase 1000 pieces for them to make it.
Before I had it manufactured I was flooded with promises to purchase it. After it was completed I did not get enough buys to break even. I am still trying to get the balance sold.

I am not complaining just stating the facts. I do not regret making it and sales still come in each week.

It would be very expensive to make 30 to 40 pieces (like more that the tablet can be purchased for now) I would need at least 300 or more orders to try this again. I also know that the Mugen battery supplier did not sell enough to make it possible to break even.

I do not have cad drawing to post. This took a lot of time and the manufacturer completed them from the original door that came with the tablet. I designed the latches and a few other parts that are vital for it to work properly.

I would like to make it but it is not in the budget, times are different now and I can not spend money like I did with the current door.

There are about 50 pieces left if anyone still wants it.

Thanks for all the positive comments and to anyone who already purchased one.

Also I will still make accessories for the adapter but I must concentrate on my main company for now.

I have the same mod. Just use the regular mount but put the N810 with the keyboard open. Works for me.

Hmm, let me try that and I'll get back to you.

EDIT: Ok, it works, but the poor mount about cries uncle trying to get it in there. T_T

I think I may have to switch to one of those pinch mounts for my NIT. The only catch is, those mounts obstruct the buttons. :(

I have some more kits available for anyone who wants to purchase one. I have received several email asking so I decided to post to let users of the N810 know while they last.

Go here http://www.remotefactory.com/32gbn810sdSSMetal.html.

I will also be listing them onEbay in a few days.

Thanks

Also as long as you are here,
1. Can you or anyone tell me where I can get a schematic of the N810?

Don't know if you have it yet but I found this...

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

craves1,
Just ordered your kit. I'm shopping for a 32GB card. Recommendations? Class 6?
Also, will SDXC (eXtended capacity) work or does it need to be SDHC?
As there is only one screw holding the kit in place, would it be ok to add a drop of hot glue to the back of the reader?
Thanks and I am anxiously awaiting my mod kit!
Lantz,
P.S. Any news on the progress of some of the other mods you have been contemplating?

Please learn to edit your posts (for minor updates anyway).
Yes go for a class 6. Transcend is good brand. SDHC. SDXC aren't out yet and will not be compatible (AFAIK).

Not sure exactly what you mean. Still learning my way around here. (Unless you're saying I could/should add to my previous post.)
I'm new here, new to Linux and new to this type of forum in general.
My apologies if I'm not up to standards on "thread etiquette" yet but I am learning and I do appreciate the advice both on editing minor updates and on which SD cards to shop for.
Sincerely,
Lantz

Is this a micro sd adaptor

Mike C

Lord Raiden 2009-10-18 20:38

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

No, this is an adapter to allow you to use a standard SD card with the NIT which uses a Mini-SD card (now obsolete) instead. If you have a MicroSD card, it's best to get a Mini-to-Micro adapter so you can use it in your NIT. Well, your n810 anyways. The n800 uses a standard SD card.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

craves1...
Thanks for the kit. It far exceeded my expectations and the new battery cover (in my opinion) is superior to the stock one. And to my pleasant surprise the spare card holder on the inside of the cover is NOT just some cheap pocket but the spare card actually clicks in and out of the unit. VERY well thought out design all around! Installation was exactly as described in the provided documentation, the provided tools worked flawlessly and only took me about 10 minutes from start to finish. I will definitely be buying more of these kits in the future as long as your supply lasts.
My only concern it that my unit arrived missing the 2 sided tape to hold down the side closest to the battery.
Can you tell me exactly what tape was supposed to have been on it and where I can but it? My guess is that it is NOT the "foam" type as that seems too thick and the only other kind I can find is the scotch type used to tape pics and such in scrap albums and hardly seems to be strong enough to secure the unit down for any length of time especially if you swap out the memory card often.
Please advise on the tape issue.
Thanks,
Lantz

Lantz I am sorry I can not understand how the tape was left off the adapter. It is a special tape that can be purchased at Home Depot but it is expensive. Send me you address an I will mail it to you. It is double sided stick tape but it is very strong. It keeps the adapter from moving when the card it inserted and removed.
Thanks for the purchase and I am pleased you are happy with it.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

Thanks Cravesone.
I suspected it was not your run of the mill tape.
I appreciate you mailing it to me as the nearest home depot is about 2 hours from where I live. I'd still like to know the brand of the tape though so I could get some for other projects I'm working on.
I'll PM you my address and thanks again for your time and effort in engineering such a quality product.
Peace,
Lantz

My experience is if you open the keyboard it will fit (although rather tightly) but it does work.
