nevermind, I figured it out! it's just that i didn't realize there's an accelerometer activated! |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
I would like to know, is it worth installing Quake 3 on the n900? As in are the controls easy to use or does it take time to get used to. As I know it can be awkward to play some of the games running through the emulator, just need to know if its similar scenario or better?

Re: Quake 3 on N900
how is this progressing?
seems to be sitting in devel/testing forever................... yes i know, i could speed things along by actually testing it rather than just *****ing, but i'm not going to. so i'll limit myself to a polite question. |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
It is really great and works brilliant...
So really a brilliant game to have inside the N900... |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
can we expect it in extra's soon?
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900

Sorry, misread your question!

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Since I made the ioquake3 update tday, the it's closing before starting!!! :(
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
having issues myself with the update!
It was done to make the mods option available but caused some stuff for me. Autoaim is not working anymore but it is activated in settings. Also the stylus can't be used in the menu. Not responsive what so ever... Am I the only one ? |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
I have just run the ioquake3 update (2010-03-10), and I notice a few issues.
1) For me the frame rate in the first level used to be 30-60fps (averaging approx 45fps). Now it has dropped to 22-35fps (averaging approx 25fps). It is still a decent rate, but I'd prefer it to be the higher value. 2) The movement control by accelerometer seems to be responding better. 3) The auto-aim seems to be off (by default). I haven't yet gone into the settings to try to adjust that. It makes it harder to fight the 'bots. |

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Mods don't work and lightmaps don't work... Also I can't control the mouse pointer properly. The frame rate is about 25fps. I hope to see accelerometer aim control.

Re: Quake 3 on N900
I also have the problem with quake closing at run time since performing the update. I decided to look into this a little further and discoverd the following information when running from terminal:
sys_loaddll (/home/user/baseq3/baseq3/uiarm.so) failed : "/home/user/baseq3/baseq3/uiarm.so: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory" Failed to load dll, looking for qvm. loading vm file vm/ui.qvm... Architecture doesn't have a bytecode compiler, usnig interpreter ui loaded in 1740352 bytes on the hunk ----cl_shutdown---- closing sdl audio device.. sdl audio device shut down. re_shutdown (1) segmentation fault Im still a linux noob (but learning) so if anyone can interpret this it would be appreciated. Thanks. |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
Ok so i decided to install openarena and take the missing files from there and copy them into the baseq3 folder and now the error message is gone BUT it still crashes out with a segmentation fault :(
Back to the drawing board |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
i decided to totally uninstall ioquake and install openarena instead, anyway the graphics is the same.

Re: Quake 3 on N900
How about implimenting zeemote support?
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
that is the error that I am getting ever since installing the maemo6 update for ioquake3 someone ****ed up with that update im running global firmware if that makes a difference they key point from that error log is recursive error after: User Interface is version 3, expected 6. Otherwise lets just wait til maemo6/meego is out end of this month and that will fix quake 3
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
Umm... I can't find folder called ".q3a". I got the pak0.pk3 files put dunno where to put them and how. Help please.
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
you will need a filemanager like midnight commander and root access....
the folder is /home/user/.q3a/ |

Great...
Now I move the files in wrong directory and I dont know how to move them out. I move them in some folder I cant reach using default file manager. Should I download some app on computer and check with it? |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
Well... Everything seems ready but it says something version 3, excepted 6.
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
How do you exit quake? I can't seem to find the key combination to do so, so I have to shutdown my n900 when I want to quit...
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
You can always just press the power button once (the one at the top of the N900), it'll pop up a menu which incluedes an item 'close current application' or whatever it is in your locale.
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
yes thats my problem also (version 3, excepted 6).
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
Ok for all those who have the "expected version 6" error, try the following:
Download the following file: ftp://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/qu...elease_132.exe Install it in windows even if you have not got quake 3 installed, When it mentions punkbuster just say no. Navigate to "program files/quake 3 arena/baseq3" Copy all the PK3 files in that folder to the "home/user/.q3a/baseq3" folder on your n900 (overwriting any files of the same name). Play Quake 3 :D Let me know if it works. Thx. Edit: Changed the directory for the n900 |

Re: Quake 3 on N900
here's how you let maemo ioquake3 run in the n900's native res of 800x480, as opposed to the 640x480 it runs in by default. in order to do so, 3 variables have to be set.
r_customwidth 800 r_customheight 480 r_mode -1 this can be done in a couple of different ways: - method 1: edit /home/user/.q3a/baseq3/q3config.cfg, find the variables and change them. - method 2: edit autoexec.cfg and add the following: seta r_customwidth 800 seta r_customheight 480 seta r_mode -1 if you're not sure where autoexec.cfg is located, open a terminal; sudo gainroot cd / find . -name autoexec.cfg - method 3: add it to the command line, my /usr/bin/quake3 file looks like this (i use a non default install path btw, replace it with your own, i can't remember what the default one is). this involves more editting, only do this if you're comfortable doing so: #!/bin/sh /usr/bin/ioquake3.arm +set fs_basepath /home/user/MyDocs/games/quake3 +set r_customwidth 800 +set r_customheight 480 +set r_mode -1 "$*" i've changed /user/share/applications/hildon/quake3.desktop to point to /usr/bin/quake3, but you can set them in quake3.desktop as well, keep it pointed directly to /usr/bin/ioquake3.arm, followed by the command line options. edit: ioquake3.desktop might be the default desktop file i think. adding them to autoexec.cfg or the command line requires you to start the game, exit and restart q3 in order for the changes to come into effect. (on a desktop pc one could change these variables in the console and do a "/vid_restart".) off topic, here are command line options to run sdlquake and sdlquake2 in 800x640 too: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...025#post578025 |

Try restart and then again....

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Has anyone noticed Quake 3 slowing down (a lot) when switching to the native resolution of the N900 screen?
I must say it already looks very impressive and sharp at 640x480. Will there any difference visually? Or is this a tweak that could only further slow down Quake 3? |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
No problems on my end...
Feels and looks great over here |
