Re: N900 Screen protector/skin

hi guys, just got screen prot. and back cover and top metal rim covers from www.clearprotector.com

screen protector is very good. in the sense little tough to use stylus otherwise everything regards to sensors( all )working excellent. with stylus its little hard to use as its more rubbery feel. still not in hurry you can use stylus.

mine was called body armour( covers everything) but still missing center peice where all the physical button and speakers are.
so anybody thinking of getting it , just get the screen protector, until we find something perfect to use with stylus. other than that its fine. it took me just 5 minits to put screen protector by itself. all other part it takes little time.
used baby shampoo ( 1 or 2 drops in glass of water.) wet your hand with that liq. and either spray on film to glueside or you can dip it into liq.
as it says dont sray on phone directly.

Thanks for the quick, nice note Eric and for tracking us down and giving us a shot. We are all about word-of-mouth so we certainly appreciate this link by Speednut Dave and mention on the forum. I hope we live up to your expectations for your N900.
If you do post, you can let folks know that "We ship to Europe everyday. If you would like just Suede Jackets the shipping price for Priority Mail in an envelope is only $15. When going through the shopping cart you will need to select the $25 option but we will change your shipping price to the lower $15 and you will see this change when we e-mail you your shipping confirmation. Also a good idea to write into the Special Instructions Box on the last secure ordering page "Please reduce my shipping charge to $15."

How about for shipping to Asia? Will they also reduce those too?

Be prepared to wait though. I ordered a fortnight ago and it's still on the way (well, it is from Germany).

OK here you are. Sorry it took a while because I had to borrow a camera (the N900 is normally my camera).

For those who weren't following the previous discussions, I've summarised the product after the photos. I'm not connected to the product in any way except as a customer.

This is the Qubits Hybrid Armour Soft Touch Case with Screen Protector from Amazon UK. The total cost for the case and screen protector (including shipping!) was only £3.40. It arrived two days after I ordered it.

The screen protector came with an anti-static dust cloth which worked really well for cleaning the screen prior to application. Positioning the screen protector was much easier than the DuraSec which I have on my N810 (or maybe I was just lucky).

The screen protector has a great feel (smooth but not slippery) and I don't notice any reduction in sensitivity whether using finger or stylus. It has small cutouts around all the sensors and also around the little NOKIA bezel.

Included in the price is a two-part plastic "soft touch" case. It's a semi-hard ploastic case in two parts, with a rubbery coating on the outside surfaces. The top part clips around the screen, protecting the sides of the screen and providing a raised bezel effect (but the bezel doesn't go right up to the display area so it doesn't have the problems of the N8x0 bezels). The bottom part clips around the keyboard with cutouts for all the sockets and controls.

Before I had this case I was worried about getting out the slippery N900 when walking along, in case I dropped it. The case gives much better grip and I'm not at all concerned now.

There are three minor downsides though. First, it adds a millimetre of thickness (maybe even 1.5mm) but only at the front. At the back, it doesn't make it as thick as the existing camera protruberance. Second, when you open the keyboard, the presense of the top half of the case slightly reduces the "free space for fat fingers" above the top row of keys. I don't find this a problem, but for some people it might be a slight inconvenience. Third, it makes it slightly fiddlier to deploy the kickstand.

Regards,
Roger

The best screen protection?

Hi all,

Which should I go for? invisibleSHIELD? Martin Fields? Some other brand?
I have good experience with Martin Fields on my N95, but that's of course not a touch screen...

Greetings,
Evert

A nice empty pocket ;)

EDIT: Okay, so I should probably say something useful. We're talking about resistive touch here, and anything you put on top of that screen will make it less responsive.

Anyway, what are you going to be doing that will damage the screen? short of putting it in your pocket with your keys, I can't see what it's protecting against?!

I have a terrible time with screenprotectors. i need to get another one since it looks ugly on my n900. how did you get the sides though. the edges of the screen part of the N900's screen protector fits oddly and is scratchy. though if the case arrives soon i only need the screenprotector for coverage.

I have a 1.5 year old at home. Never know what he's up to... ;-)

The Martin Fields states their product is 0.2mm thick. Don't see any thickness mentioned for the InvisibleSHIELD.
Would this really make a huge (negative) difference?

+1 got it and love it. It does need some cutting to get it to fit the n900 but it's very smooth. Better than the Durasec one's

When I ordered mine I ordered the Droid Jacket and then put in the comments the custom size that I wanted. I'm pretty sure I used the numbers from Speednut:

custom size is needed for Nokia N900 -
4.37" height x 2.35" width x .77" depth

Speednut can probably verify.

I'm also using the durasec.

It fits great, but try not to stretch the film during install or you'll have about a few mm too long.

I guess that's why I bought 2. :D

Mind eBay.
I just tried to buy a cheapo cover & screen protector from China. Minutes after I paid, got an email form ebay 'Loss Prevention Department'.
Paypal gave me the money ($3.xx) back.
Looking at other listings, I see he was half the price of other sellers, unless you buy 3 at once.

So I'm starting this thread to see where people spot the various boxwave / invisibleshield / ... screen protectors.

Also, considering this is costing a lot, a good case would be an interesting thing to find / add to your pocket mix (One that doesn't hamper phone use this time around).

Good luck if you're ordering the invisibleshield ZAGG because you will regret later for the unease of use for touchscreen, it's fine if you use your finger . However, very sticky if you use your fingernail or the stylus. My recommendation is Vikuti DQC-160 for screen protector as it has anti-glare. perfectly fit the ENTIRE screen and still be able to use fingernails or stylus. It doesnt effect the sensitivity . On the other hand, ZAGG or OTHERS that uses the military materials is excellent in scratch resistance. However, very sticky. ZAGG would be good for the body ONLY, not screen. You guys can order from ZAGG for body and Vikuti DQC-160 for screen. Not to say that ZAGG's doesn't fit tightly/perfectly it's always a lil smaller.

In my opinion, Vikuti DQC-160 is perfect for screen protector as it does resist scratch and the very important thing, DOESNT effect the use of anything on the screen. I ordered 2 from them and got 1 more for free so i'll sell one to my friend and will still have one for spare.

The Easecase ones on ebay can be customised - most of them offer a non-magnetic clip as an alternative.

I do not use the stylus nor my finger nails so the invisible shield suits me fine. I've been using the zagg on my old ipod touch with no issues, resistive screen on the n900 not too bad either

Long version: I'm a big guy and want to carry my N900 in my front pocket just like I do for my N810. A simple sleeve or pouch would work best for me to prevent scratches to the screen, but not add extra bulk to the already chubby N900.

I'm a huge fan of Waterfield Design, a San Francisco company who makes all of their products in house. A photo I took that shows their quality workmanship can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/speednutdave/3073066779/ (select "all sizes" to view high-res photo)

I've given them the Nokia spec page with the N900 dimensions (http://www.nokiausa.com/find-product...specifications) and they informed me that they can have the case ready for production in a week or so. If you want to order one now, just pick the droid version, then in the special instructions section, state that "custom size is needed for Nokia N900 -
4.37" height x 2.35" width x .77" depth".

The "suede jacket" is $9 + CA resident state taxes + $7 ground shipping  (however, shipping from SF to San Jose is same day or next day, so at least it's fast for me ;))

I'll update this thread again once I've received the pouch/"suede jacket".

so mine just arrived... i was dissapointed.. its just too simple.. i dont know if this one can protect my device. my pouch for android g1 works better than this and its drop tested. because of the leather corners, nothing happend to my n900. im afraid if i use this jacket and drop the phone accidentally...

i think both speednut and i both specified why we like this sleeve (not quite a pouch!), and its main reason is for it being thin, not for it to be a case/pouch. we wanted something that would protect the screen when placed in the pocket (from other things u keep in your pocket). i cant imagine adding anymore bulk to the phone especially with a harder durable case. i also like that it pretty much functions as a screen wipe as well. simple it maybe, but thats exactly what i wanted (plus it doesnt hurt how amazing the service has been from waterfield). but yes, i wouldn't recommend this product when it comes to protection against drops. it is simply just a sleeve.

Show me a case that can protect my N900 from a 4-6 foot drop onto concrete that fits into my front pocket without my wife saying "you must be really happy to see me..."? :D ;)

Short of a Pelican case, I wouldn't count on any case to fully protect from a drop test. If you're looking for strong drop protection, you need to look elsewhere. A few posts back was some photos of a hard rubber split case; the wife has something similar on her iPhooey and it has survived a few clumsy drops, but I'd say she has been lucky so far...
