Your statement regarding chargers is an excellent one.

The N900 uses a USB charger - so region specific charging is not a problem.
It also comes with a Wall charger adapter so you can use an old charger maybe.

But just get yourself a standard Wall to USB charger plug and you are set, irrespective of where you live. Or plug into your computer to charge.

The phoen is not locked as mentioned before.

At&T says it will work - that is on their voice network.
Data (3G) will not work on At&T as the data frequencies are not supported for At&T. It is supported for T-Mobile (see data sheet for 3G frequencies)

Somewhere in the DDP pages is stated Euro1 device, so I presume it'll come with EU charger and EU stuff (keyboard)

Okay I ordered mine and they charged my credit card full price immediatley ($369) no tax or shipping apparently. Thanks Nokia!

Edit: Looks like they only put a hold on the funds...

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

Nilchak,

Thanks for the info on the USB charger. The no 3G for AT&T is not a good thing as 3G is significantly faster than Edge.
Thanks,

Nick.

IMHO the entire agreement reads like "papel mojado" (== useless, not worth the paper it's written on) for what we're getting from "the program".

My worst worry is customs. That, and getting charged but not getting any email, confirmation, receipt, tracking number, or product.

The funny thing is they didn't really charge (me). They just reserved the amount. Customs should not be an issue if you're within the EU. Taxes might get tricky - DDP seems to be used dealing with companies, that's why they 'require' the VAT number and also likely why they listed 0 VAT, which certainly can't be right. This will certainly be a learning experience for everyone :) :(

Should there be VAT/customs for something shipped from Finland to another EC country ?...

No for customs, yes for VAT (except if you're a company, which seems to be causing the confusion).

Oh, they ship from Finland then? Nice :)

They can't sell it without VAT then though, so even if you haven't been billed it yet...

Is it just me or is the eshop site so unusably slow that it's impossible to get through the order process because the damn thing just times out again and again?

At least in my order confirmation the total included VAT. 22% here in Finland

fanoush 2009-11-11 17:53

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

so it was 250 including VAT or 250 plus 22% = 305?

Has anyone recieved a Shipping e-mail with a DHL tracking number?

Quote:

Shipping

Shipping will be done using DHL. The ordered devices will be shipped within reasonable time period from the receipt of the confirmation of your order.

Device shipping times vary depending on the model. You can find the estimated shipping time in the product detail page.

You will receive the order tracking number via email as soon as the order has been shipped.

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

Well yesterday my wife got a call from someone in the UK who told her that our CC was being used and they wanted to know if it was a legit charge. They asked her for the last 4 digits of her S/S # to verify her ID. Wifey, being a past victim of ID theft told her to go pound salt!
Yesterday was a bank holiday in the states so we couldn't contact our Credit Union to find out what was up. She also didn't know I had ordered "another dang tablet" as she put it.

I patiently explained: "But honey, it's not a tablet it's a dang computer in your dang pocket... but that's not all it's a danged cell phone too". (We use the word "dang" a lot.)

After some discussion about her "needs" blah, blah, blah... she called the bank this morning and found out it was a legit inquiry and had them release the funds...

$383.00

I believe jandmdickerson and I ordered on the same day and his bank immediately held funds of $369.00. >> http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=371

Looks like wifey's needs cost me $14 over the past 2 days because the U$D is sinkin' like a dang stone.

( j/k, it's all good :p... thanks again Quim, et al. )

Keyboard will not be localized. I suppose 'EU' keyboard is akin to 'US qwerty'. Maybe with an EUR and GBP symbol on it.

Does anyone know the type of the included charger? Because some Nokia chargers have recently been called back.

How much were you charged? It may be different inside or outside Finland.

For those living in EU its internal traffic in EU. It is not checked at Customs because it is assumed VAT is already paid. The seller is responsible for this, and the buyer must deliver correct details.

I've only had amount of money reserved btw, not charged. From UK btw. Have you been charged already? Why would they afterwards (reserve & )charge VAT?

DHL tracking number after 3 business days.

Espoo isn't in the middle of nowhere so before package goes to international airport won't take more than a business day, and then its flown to destination country (usually directly, in case of e.g. Serbia maybe first to e.g. Germany or wait longer because of less transport flights). Then from that airport, if not need through Customs (should not), normal delay after transport flight is 1 day (processed next evening/night). Then in my case its transported through night train which handles previous day post, and in the morning/afternoon the postal guy delivers the package... or attemps to because often nobody home. However, at least here, they do deliver on saturday, and not on sunday/monday (only business post on monday). So I expect first international arrivals 2-3 busines days after DHL track number, and first national delivery should be even quicker.

Also note the DDP price includes S&H.

Warranty is 1 week against DOA, so test the device well!

FWIW, I hope to receive it soon so I can RMA my beloved 11 month old Nokia E71 of which some keys have suddenly become (sometimes) unresponsive [probably because I sat or slept on it  ). This servant has performed rather well during the period I waited for Nokia N900... :)

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

After debernardis' heads-up on Monday 9th I also ordered mine. But unlike others I still don't see any charge on my bank account, so I wrote a quick mail to DDP this morning just to check that there was no problem with the order.

That was 10:28am, Paris time. The response from DDP arrived at 11:43am, that was really quick, and fortunately "everything is fine" :-)

Of course I could not resist asking for an ETA in the same mail, and the answer to that was "hopefully will be next week".

FWIW :-)

If anyone is still interested (which I highly doubt) - please, don't rush with solving my case (or even replying to any of my e-mail messages) - I'd really rather buy HD2 for the full price than keep facing that absolute disrespect and ignorance. I don't know what have I done to deserve this but I'm really sick of it.
P.S.: I'll continue to work with community on applications because I love to help people and good lookin' UIs, and not because I want something in return. Thanks again.

Same here, ordered a week ago and no charge to my credit card and no email confirmation nor is there any way to check the order within the eStore.

Apparently the N900 is now available immediately to US consumers.

I'm also waiting for a reply to my email querying the length of the DDP warranty - is it 2 weeks or the standard 1 or 2 years. The delay in replying suggests it's bad news (which they don't want to give) or they're trying to obtain clarification.

The DDP page said return in 1 week if there's fault, as I recall. No other warranty.

A 1 week warranty is totally unreasonable, particularly for anyone with past experience of tablets (WSOD on 770, faulty rotating camera and dodgey touchscreens on N800 - I think the N810 was generally OK though).

I appreciate we're getting a good discount, but there seems little reason to not warranty the hardware that we're still having to fork over €250 for.

If it were entirely free I'd be more understanding.

Today i checked my bank account and the temporary hold on my account for 371$ was cancelled and the money was credited into my account.

Any update from the DDP team?

Thanks

Re: N900 device program for maemo.org developers and contributors

Today, I wrote an email and told them I was worried because others saw the €250,-transaction on their credit card account while I didn't. - Not having a confirmation of any kind, I just wanted to know why they didn't charge my credit card and if they'd received my order at all.

The short answer was that the credit card will be charged as soon as they ship. No shipping date was given.
