A nice addition would be the possibility to enable/disable the region Name on the widget.

But hey, it's already a great widget :)

Hi
Use this command for it:
gconftool-2 --set /apps/maemo/omweather/ show-station-name --type=int 0

No.

I haven't time for this. Now we (I, Tanya and Wazd) are developing OMWeather for Meego.

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

Nice work Vlad!

Found a yr.no bug for you! If you choose:
Country: Sweden
Region: Västmanland.
City: Is left 'blank'. If one writes 'Västerås' as an valid example, pressing 'Done' gets you no further.

I think you are working on a solution on the following already but... just for clarity's sake and if someone else have any thoughts on/ideas for this. :)

Quote:

As far as I understand it, anyone is free to use the data on condition one credits the data source in the media/application as follows:

«Weather forecast from yr.no, delivered by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the NRK»

Also, the place one presents data from should be "clickable" and linked to their site like this example: Stavanger.
If there are several places they should be linked to their respective place like the Stavanger example. Its specified in the XML ( <link id="overview"> ) what text and what site it should be linked to.

Where one does not have enough space for text, it ok to short it down to: «Forecast from yr.no»

I guess it would be ok with «by/from yr»
And linked as stated above. (Translated from here btw, if anyone is interested.)
Keep up the great work Vlad! Thanks! :)

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

I tested the yr.no database and it seems to be missing a lot of locations that can be found on the site. Not sure if this is because of yr.no API restrictions or something else. Here are a few locations not found:

- my whole country :) http://www.yr.no/place/Macedonia/
(example station: http://www.yr.no/place/Macedonia/Karpo%C5%A1/Skopje/)
- some village in Greece I needed to lookup: http://www.yr.no/place/Greece/Centra...%C3%A1~734256/
- Germany is missing too :)
(example station: http://www.yr.no/place/Germany/Brandenburg/Finowfurt/)

Thanks for the new DB though, I have actually been using the yr.no website quite a lot, it's excellent for Europe.

About other stations. I don't know a way for automatically adding all stations from yr.no :(

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

Thanks, looking forward to it.

I noticed that in the /usr/share/omweather/db/yr.no.db sqlite db the country/regions/stations are already there. Does that db need to be compiled into the app for them to actually appear?

Just trying to understand if I can do something to help this along. If any work needs to be done I'll be glad to help, just let me know.

Yes. This file is the sqlite db file. You can modify this file and copy it to /usr/share/omweather/db/ without compile whole project.
I would appreciate any help from you.

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

Yeah but I already see everything (country/regions/stations) in the db file, why aren't they showing up in the application?
Doesn't look like omweather uses the yr.no.db file at all...

Please show me a station which you see in database and does not see in OMWeather.

omweather-yr-no-stations-db - 0.3

Thanks for this. I notice that stations from this db have a date and or clock issue in that they run a day ahead from 12h00. No such problem with this db in meecast.

Sure... when I look at meecast using the yr.no database, the date displayed for the stations is correct before as well as after 12h00. In omweather, the information for yr.no stations is displayed correctly before 12h00, but after that time the station is shown as the following day. That is, if I look now I see omweather displaying the station as being Friday. In meecast the same station is shown (correctly) as Thursday.

Where I can find this information?

Vlad.

P.S. I've found this information.
It seems that we will have serious problems. : (
I can't write very quickly a new code for this source.
I have to go on a big business trip until 20 November. :(

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

hi, i was just going to point you to something like this

wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-wp-weather-please-read-plugin-will-cease-to-work-nov-15

but i see you've found the info.

i subscribed to weather.com's api service (didn't pay any money), and about an hour later i recieved what weather.com calls a 'magic key' (a big hexadecimal number). i'm not allowed to share the key and it gives me access to 100 api calls a day, but i couldn't find out how to actually call the api with it. i think the partner id concept is gone.

so maybe that's an option, i.e. if people want to use weather.com, they can apply for a magic key. but i've no idea if i can even use this magic key without paying first.

Probably I will try to write parser for data from web-pages in weather.com site. I need more free time to do so. But I don't have it now :(

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

i'm not sure i'd get into the quagmire of web scraping maintenance if i had a choice.

a better idea is to provide a link to the webpage in omweatherwhere people can register for a personal 'magic key' on weather.com, and a text box where they can enter it when it arrives an hour later. then .. job done. no need to worry about web page layout changes etc.

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

also you could switch to wunderground.com, seems just as accurate as weather.com but more developer friendly.

Re: New version of OMWeather is available for testing.

the xbmc forum says that it's now stopped working for them, however omweather is still working for me. interestingly, the new weather.com api isn't available to me as i don't live in the usa, so maybe countries that can't sign up to the new api can still use the old one. but i imagine it's just a matter of time anyway and the clock is ticking.

I'm still using 0.22.12 on Diablo.

Sorry. I just like the older version better. :)

However, there's one file that I remember that can get extremely bloated after awhile and simply needs to be deleted.

I forget which one it is though.

Do you remember vavslad?

It's just how the graphics all line up perfectly.

The newer versions that I've tried, the current day is raised slightly higher on the screen.

I couldn't find that file in the /tmp folder.

I'll search the forums here in another thread where someone found where it is.

Cheers. :)
