Re: New firmware? Maemo 5 update 3.2?

The update is showing as available on my side, im on 02.

I believe the reason some folk in UK cant see the update is bcoz they are using the UK Firmware. Where as other folk such as myself have the Global version or US Version installed.
The UK update release isnt out yet according to http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemo_UK_variant_firmware

Then again its always gud to be patient in updating as sometimes a firmware update can lead to problems rather than do good.

There used to be this game "Peter" who was in Marketing w/in Nokia - for the Maemo devices.

He is also available on Twitter but can't remember his twitter name as he mostly seemed like waste of space.

I'm sorry. (Yes, I was intimidated, so my apologetic self kicks in.)

I know it's just me, but I'm not quite used to reading a thread with problems that repeat every 1-2 pages -- I tend to have my hands itching to post something as if it's the be-all end-all. I guess I shouldn't post those kinds of messages anymore...

Seems to me that the / -footprints of most of the extras-repo packages are already quite small which suggests that most of them are optified. Of course, there are many other well justified reasons to avoid testing and devel.

Just updated, everything went fine (crossed my fingers though, as i've had no backup, but it wasn't needed). Feels a little bit faster than the previous but no big changes.

No, please do. Your post was well written, and I truly appreciate your work in trying to reduced the repetitive posts.

My previous reply to you was an attempt at humor. Please do your best to overlook its failings. Thank you.

Updating in Cyprus successfully, didn't even take 10 minutes. I did have to uninstall a couple of things but mostly disabling extras-testing and extras-devel cleared up the biggest chunk of space necessary.

It does feel a bit snappier but it could just be psychological :)

Re: New firmware? Maemo 5 update 3.2?

I noticed right away navigation across the n900 has increased in speed. Browsing websites has just become even better. Hopefully the update they are predicting to come at the end of February will keep these things in mind and not slow down the OS when moving forward. I am so looking forward to this Meego transition what does that do to Maemo 6? I wonder if Meego and Maemo 6 will be backward compatible to N900 once this is all said and done.

I am not big on touchscreens but the n900 though bulky gives you the option of both touch and qwerty keyboard. I know the future will bring on better touch screens etc but make faster and better phone for us users who still have faith in the qwerty keyboard. Thats my blurb!

Re: New firmware? Maemo 5 update 3.2?

Lucky Backup Option!!

I managed to get enough free memory to install the update after uninstall some devel programs.
I made the update and after this the first reboot the mobile keeps rebooting constantly.

Finally I have to reflash the OS via Linux and the image.

I was a lucky man because I think about to made a backup and now I'm reinstalling all the application and all the other things are working.

Hi, in UK on vodafone network but with unlocked phone, waiting along with many others for the update. I was just wondering though if there was any difference between the uk firmware and the uk vodafone variant firmware? I'm currently using the uk firmware and not the vodafone variant and wonder if this is the best option or if there would be any network specific updates that i might need or indeed if switching to the vodafone variant would put limitations on the device. Finally... will my device simply update with the standard uk firmware as this is the currently installed version or will my phone recognise the vodafone sim and try to update the vodafone variant? Questions, questions, questions I know.

No. The core package (which is used to tie together the updates) is different dependent on the firmware variant, so changing the update catalog will just result in you not getting any further OS updates.

Just ran the Mirror program to see if there are any changes with the front facing camera, it looks smoother, not by much, a possible improvement for front facing came integration with skype we keep hearing about??? Going to try some video call tests, gmail video chat wouldnt work from macs, going to try that first...have to wait for friends with macs on the west coast to wake up though, so if anyone beats me to it, let me know.

Personally I would leave it with the generic UK firmware. AFAIK the only thing I can see which the VF variant has is the APN details already loaded when you get the phone which is a lot less than they usually put on.

I think that the network branded firmwares get updates slower than generic and if you decide to get rid of the handset then a generic firmware would be better IMO. The operator SIM will not make a difference AFAIK.

Nobody has yet been able to determine any difference between any of the firmware variants, and Nokia seem disinclined to help on this. There certainly seems to be no difference between the generic UK and the Vodafone UK firmware, and as the Vodafone UK updates haven't yet been badly delayed (as they often are with Symbian), there appears little point in switching.

Isnt /203 a UK Variant, and not a network variant.

Vodafone is /205.

I have /203 so I should have the update available!

Re: New firmware? Maemo 5 update 3.2?

My N900 came from Car Phone Warehouse, completely unlocked and unbranded from Vodafone. I don't think there are any branded N900s out there.

No update for me yet.

Neither of these are available yet. I think the Uk people who've updated already are those running the global (MR0) firmware.

Going to try updating to the new FW via flashing. Just wanted to confirm that RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin is the right file for me.

My N900 was from Nokia UK.
