Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
As PR1.2 is making its way to the N900s out there, I have submitted 0.0.8 to Extras-Devel. In my region, the PR1.2 is not yet available, so I have not yet tested it. Functionally, this should be exactly the same as the 0.0.8 from the Wiki. The difference is that it should now run under Qt4.6, which I have not tested myself...

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
It can be installed without a problem and it seems to work as it should, great!
It is still called QSportsEvent in the menu btw. |

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
Can't comment much yet. PR1.2 did appear in my app manager today, but it requires NSU installation. When I tried that, it threatened that it would wipe out all the music I have on my device (some 20Gb or so...), so I'll have to take a backup of that or wait for OTA installation to become available...
A few questions: 1. Does the splashscreen appear centered now? In PR1.1.1, it would be tiling a bit of itself on the right. 2. Does fingerscrolling work everywhere? 3. Is there a horizontal scrollbar in the tabs that display a web page? 4. Is the 'hit area' for the default favourite checkbox larger, i.e., easier to select with the fingers rather than with the stylus? 5. Is scrolling in the 'select' tab less sensitive? Those are some of the things I was hoping to see an improvement on with Qt 4.6/PR1.2... Thanks for testing it on PR1.2! |

Yap 2. Does fingerscrolling work everywhere? Yap, not really good (tends to highlight everything), but it works 3. Is there a horizontal scrollbar in the tabs that display a web page? Nope 4. World Cup Edition:
What is required to make the app World Cup ready?
Anything else? Pleae help me to put priorities on the above. |

UI is indeed a bit messed up and also the results screen does not fit into view horizontally and has to be scrolled (which is difficult because finger tends to highlight the results instead of scrolling). |

Don't expect any new releases the next couple of days or so as I'll be too busy on other things (like work...). |
Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
I've not used this app, so apologies if these suggestions have already been incorporated:
Calendar integration - it could be good tobe able to export fixtures to the device's calendar (so you can see what's clashing with the most important games!). I would have thought this would need to be able to select that only certain fixtures get exported or only certain fixtures from those selected get an alarm set. The ways to select would want to be: Whole tournament Knockout stages only. Fixtures in particular group. Fixtures featuring particular country. |
Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
and if you use the calendar with a time converter to the zone the phone use :)
also if you finally make other sports app a primary launch app is a good idea as someone pointed earlier |

FIFA starts in approx 12 days , any news on an app?

Thank you for your suggestions! I will consider them for the next version. Now with Qt 4.6 and the QtMobility library, calendar integration should be reasonably easy, I think... :) |
Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
hi Magnuslu,
any progress on this app? Up and running, safe to install? thanks for ur work! Cause it would be unacceptable not to have a world cup app for the n900 )) |
Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
Thanks Magnuslu for your time and effort!
I hope it will be ready for the beginning of the world cup :-) |

It is linked to my google calendar and I have synched that to my N900 calendar. It is supposed to populate the next stage fixtures itself |
Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
Thank you for suggestions and support. Unfortunately, I'm having some problems reconstructing my development environment. I use MADDE. But the version I have is for Qt 4.5. Now with PR 1.2 out, all devices have Qt 4.6, so I wanted to upgrade to the latest version of MADDE with that version as well. As these are all 'technology previews', they don't quite work 'out of the box'. I hope to have an update before Friday, but I'm not too sure about it... :(
I was also too optimistic about the calendar integration. I expected the API to be part of QtMobility, which it is not. I have found some examples showing how to do it but I'm not too sure how long it will be before I can get it into the app :( x2. |

Should also mention, no other issues that I can see as yet, installed and runs fine without issue. Also, as only a new N900 owner, I gotta say I love seeing a community like this working on quality apps - kudos to you for getting stuck into what will no doubt be a very popular app :)

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
Why such an app if you have a browser and /or rss?
|

But I guess people are sick now browsing heavy web pages with millions of adds and menus and links around and have hard time to find the information they need. Apps are easy, refined information sources. RSS is not that popular somehow. |

However, from my point of view it is more important to have a usable version first before every single sophisticated feature is integrated... Btw, do you plan to keep the websites for live scores, chat, prediction integrated as they are or do you plan to create a consistent app-like UI for those services/features? |

Right, it is obvious what 90% of all the iphone apps consist of, including dupes. I don't support this direction, but people always try to make money or gain acceptance out of shlt. I'm no programmer, but for me apps are bits of code which actually perform computation by cross-interacting between different, mostly local components to accomplish a new, useful and creative function through creative programming. These kinds of apps are always more than the sum of the components they access, so simply fetching information for lazy people by creating a degraded browser instance with flashy gui and icon is a waste of time, engagement and ressources, imo, the codified essence of stupidity and irrelevance. Of course you are always free to waste your time, the way you want (this includes 90% of all the posting in this forum...). It would be a PITA if this weak concept would get trendy in the maemo world. Imagine browsing the app repositories when every 2nd app is just some aggregator of some schmucky website. You have one of the best mobile browsers at hand, so use it. The information you need is just one shortcut away. |

Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
Hi there!
Yes, I do plan to continue with it. I'll need it myself once the European leagues get started again! I still haven't taken the time to have my new MADDE environment to work with packaging MobiTifo. I guess all my spare time went to watching the World Cup... I'll also have to do some updates on my other app, QTeachMe, before continuing on MobiTifo. |
Re: [QSportsEvent] FIFA World Cup and Football App
MobiTifo 0.0.2 is now out. I've created a new thread for it, so please continue any further discussion over there. :)
