Re: [announce] swappolube to lubricate your gui

Any idea why the option to select swappiness as now appeared in the drop down menu as I don't really want it there as it's hardly an option I want to use regular. As once I have set the settings I usually tend to ignore it?

Can we remove it easily from the drop down menu?

Sorry for any confusion caused however after downloading the latest update today the swappolube button appeared in my power key drop down box, having never appeared there before.

However after my phone "frooze" whilst using modest and so requiring a reboot the button promply disappeared again!

I have no idea whether the modest freezing problem/swappolube update where connected but all seems OK with th phone at present.

Looks like I was having a bad day yesterday and I now realise I was getting my Power key drop down box mised up with the normal drop down box. As such the swappolube button wasn't appearing/disappearing just appearing on the Powerkey button. I have now removed it via the app per your link.

However it seems its not only me surprised by it's appearance as MohammedAG & Lara Croft have been discussing it on the CSSU IRC, the latter being as confused by it as I have been!!

Uploaded a new version (1.4-1) in devel.

There are some small code changes, but it's mostly about having rotation support in the UI.

The changelog:
  • Modifications in the postrm and the postinstall script.
  • Installation triggers compilation of the code and removal of not needed files.
  • Added simple file to start the UI.
  • Modification of the UI to support rotation.

Some screenshots below:

Have you extras-devel set to on in your repositories? I have it and receive the update without problem.

In order to get the GUI version you'll need to uninstal first the noGUI version.
Then install the swappolube from extras-testing if you want to check the latest version or from the extras the stable version.

off-topic: it is ridiculous scary how many are using the devel as their primary source of apps.

So many mandatory apps never make it out of devel, so we have to. On Maemo, -devel isn't a short stop. Backup Menu, one of the few apps everyone should have, is only there, e.g. Others have versions so old in extras it's not funny.

Re: [announce] swappolube to lubricate your gui

I think that the devel repositories is not so unstable, sometimes you can grab new version of the apps with some regression, but the developer correct it pretty quickly. As ndi correctly say, some apps are only there, since the apps list for Maemo is not so long, i still think that the devel repositories is a must to have. Just my opinion, anyway i agree that this is off-topic here.

Re: [announce] swappolube to lubricate your gui

Uploaded a new version (1.4-2) in devel and testing.

The only change is a modification of the UI to expand on all the available screen estate.

There was a "hidden" status bar added automatically by the designer in the bottom stealing 20px.

Re: [announce] swappolube to lubricate your gui

Was it necessary to add a Shortcut to the power button's menu? (a few updates ago?) This seems unnecessary to me. Is there a way to disable it?

Edit: Nevermind, you can disable it in the options :)

Hi Saturn,

Dunno if you are already aware of it but it seems that the cgroup patches are working fine as explained in this thread.

It would be nice to have an option in Swappolube to easily apply and revert this patch.

Also an option to enable and disable the WSEGL_UseHWSync flag would be useful.

Hi ivgalvez,

I don't know if you have checked the patch but has errors and duplications/triplications for no reason. The script is the one you can find with a simple search on the internet by superpiwi. This 'maemo version' erroneously has several lines uncommented that have been commented on purpose since they have been replaced. No disrespect to karam (I actually like his enthusiasm and effort to help users) but some more knowledgeable person should step in there and clean up the scripts and instructions.
Most importantly, the patch has been discussed in the past here and it is known to not work.

For the second option, i.e. the WSEGL_UseHWSync flag, it is known to be unstable on some devices giving random reboots. I don't want to add an option that is known to not work for some at random points in time with no indication of what went wrong and the system rebooted. Power users that have the ability to understand the issues can use it.

Sorry for the double no but hope you agree at least with my logic.

Agreed, actually I haven't reviewed the script by myself but I thought it could be useful (as the patch is known to work on desktop computers).

Does anyone else have the issue of proposed settings not saving across reboots after making them permanent?
