Hai nicolai push this through the CSSU.... it is possible or not?

Hi, just my input on the subject.

I have the horizontal lines and partially corrupted pics quite often. I had Bless and fcam drivers like a year ago but removed both.
Tried everything like:
- fsck and defrag the memory
- remove all pictures and music (just in case the tracker was corrupting them since i had 3-4 gigs of pictures)

This is happening before the camera-ui2 even started being developed and in a freshly installed system. I always take two-three pictures of the same thing to be sure I have one good copy!
Any ideas to try would be appreciated - maybe I should start a new thread..

On the latest (3 May) camera-ui2 version, my only comment is on the change of the measuring of the distance.
In the latest, I see the distance on the top right only after taking the photo and the system is ready to take a new photo. In the previous, it was calculating it after every zoom. Is that right? I also liked the green color which was more visible.

@Santhan
Ask MohammadAG, he is the one who packages
the CSSU.

Are you sure the drivers are removed and not just the blessn900
UI?

Which green color?
The text with the distance measurement was white, always.
And for me, the measuring updates always after pushing the
focus button (you have to press and hold the focusbutton for
0.5 seconds to start autofocus)

Re: camera-ui2 (now a part of CSSU) (updated 09. May)

Might be useful for those not sure on the step:

open an xterm then copy-paste each line:

Code:

sudo gainroot
mkdir camera-ui2
cd camera-ui2/
wget -O camera-ui.tar.gz "http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=19935&d=1304966081"
tar -xzf camera-ui.tar.gz
cp camera-ui /usr/bin/
ls -l /usr/bin/camera-ui

the result should be:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 196901 2011-05-09 21:12 /usr/bin/camera-ui

now reboot..

I believe so. Should not be enough if I do (?):
~ $ dpkg -l fcam*
No packages found matching fcam*.

Is there any other way for me to test?

Yes you are right. Checked again and the value updates if you lift the finger after a zoom.
On the green, it might be my mind playing tricks - the frame was green.
Sorry for that..

I just asked because once apt-get remove blessn900 hasn't
uninstalled fcam-drivers for me.

Are only images on the sd card corrupted?
Maybe the card is faulty.

Thanks for taking the time to answer on my bizarre problem.
The card seems to be ok (at least don't have anything else corrupted and checks pass) and it only happens on photos. I'm wondering if there is some firmware flashed in any of the chips that make that.

I've checked on the bless thread and noticed that some more people complain about the same. e.g. http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...9&postcount=33

Last question and I'll move elsewhere :)
could someone with a 'clean' system give the output of the following?

Code:

ls -al /lib/firmware
ls -al /lib/dsp

Don't know if it is really relevant but mine looks like that:

Yes, as root you copy the extracted camera-ui to /usr/bin.

It will not be available for use until you reboot, or do as root:

Code:

dsmetool -k /usr/bin/camera-ui

dsmetool -t /usr/bin/camera-ui

For me the focus distance is only displayed if I release the focus button which doesn't really make sense since the focus then is lost.

When I take photos I first halfpress to obtain focus and without releasing the focus button I then fully press the button to take the photo. Doing it this way I only get to see the focus distance after the photo is taken and not already when focus is obtained.

Does this work differently for others?

No, you are right. In the prior version (with focus distance
display under the focus frame) it was always visible.
And now it is hidden when autofocus is activated.

Here it shows the distance as soon as the focus is found, even if I keep it half pressed. My version is the one currently available in the CSSU (not the latest one available in post#1)

EDIT: meh, 0.001 seconds too slow :)

So is the current behaviour how you intend it to be or will you change it back to be as in the previous version?

My vote goes to the old behaviour ;)

i don't have cssu thing so i download camera-ui2 manually everytime you update it and move it to /usr/share
every update was working but the last one isn't working, cause when i type :
root
dsmetool -k /usr/bin/camera-ui -----(gives me)-----> process not killed : not found, not root or kill failed
/usr/bin/camera-ui2 ------(gives me)-------> permission denied
so i did chmod 700, chmod 777 and even chmod +rwx -----(gave me)-----> segmentation fault
what could be the problem ?

reset and fix the camera-ui installation:

bugfixes and features from the lates version at

https://gitorious.org/community-ssu/camera-ui:

* Use camera key to close preview window.
* Check if what gnomevfs returns is NULL, otherwise the app segfaults.
* Disable display blanking while recording video.
* add sound effects (focus done, capture, start recording)
* moved focus distance label to upper right corner
* shorter autofocus delay (changed from 1 sec to 0.5 sec)
* reset recording timer when recording stops

Hi,

Updated to the latest CSSU version PR 1.3.3.7-8.1 i.e. 20.2010.36-maemo14.1 (11.04.2011) did not resolve blank screen problem while recording for me.

Please help.

Other camera apps installed in my system include Ansel-A, BlessN900, Clasic Cam, HDR Capture, FCamera, Panorama, FrontView, and MIR Tanslator.

Other than that, I also have Lens Cover Reminder and Camera Lens Launcher installed in my N900.

Thanks

Lol, yeah, maybe we can have a 100x zoom function and Image Stabilisation too? How about upping the resolution to say 35mp, that way I can leave my Canon DSLR at home...

It's implemented in FCamera which is why I know it works. I was shooting in daylight at ISO 3200 1/4000 and 1/8000 and it was fine in FCamera. On Camera-UI2 it was blown out and it was not able to freeze motion as would be consistent with a high shutter speed.

Again, check FCamera. If it wasn't possible I wouldn't ask for it.

Photo taken at ISO 3196 shutterspeed 1/950. If it was a brighter day I would have gone faster. FCamera can go faster but the image there wasn't enough light that day.

Re: camera-ui2 (now a part of CSSU) (updated 09. May)

FCamera uses its own camera driver interface.
I only use what the default driver and camera api
provides.
ISO 1600 is the maximum for this camera driver.
And shutter speed isn't controllable with this camera
api.

Hi! Just want to confirm something... Has anyone tried disabling the camera flash? I tried setting it to not use the flash(flash off) but still the flash is activated whenever I try taking a shot on a dark area as if it was set to automatic still. So in short does the flash settings on the new camera ui works?

The LED turns on for autofocus to work.

I shoot with no flash all the time. Sometimes its a bit quirky but I open /close the camera and usually it's fine after that.

Mine fires too depending on moon phase and darkness. It does fire for focus, but once focused it still fires either twice in quick succession in low light (fill? delayed?) and fully in darkness. Old camera also did this.

Of topic (?): Maybe some inspirations for the camera-ui: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK. I like the grid functionality and the example golden ratio grid there: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Grids
