Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Nice too see you work on this gidzzz :)
I havenīt really tried it earlier.
I guess itīs a work in progress but I have to ask one thing regarding car view. When I swipe left I can see the listed songs from a specific album. Am I supposed to be able to tap on any song in the list to get it to play? Now when scrolled and I tap on a song in the list only the song in the top is played.
It would be nice if it was possible.

Anyway, nice work MAG and gidzzz :)
It seems snappier then stock i must say

Default player supports listing of tracks in right order acording to track number. But for different CDs not. So for example lifehous - deluxe edition has 2 CD's. MFAW sorts it like

Example: (cd 2 has only 2 tracks)
track 1 (cd1)
track 1 (cd 2)
track 2 (cd 1)
track 2 (cd 2)
track 3
track 4

Hope this nakes it clear =)
One question, can I use OMP next to the default player?

hey.. firstly thanks to all of u 4 an excellent work...really a nice replacement of stock media player...

All I have to say is WOW! Last update made it really useful. A 200+ playlist in previous version loaded for minutes, now it snaps in just seconds! Finally I can forget about stock MP :)

If they're running at the same time, the worst thing I can think of is that one of the players could fail to notice a change made by the other one and some view not being refreshed.

Last time I checked, sharing was working. I'm not sure about deleting, though -- I still haven't shown it much love. I know there's a bug with list not updating after deleting a song, but the file is really deleted. From which view do you try to share?

Yes, but I forgot about something. ;) Try the attached version.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I have a little request,
could it be possible to hide the album art in the now playing window?
In portrait, I would like to see as many songs as possible, when I'm scrolling through them.

btw. for the newest version, can we still use the script in the first post or should we download gidzzz's attachment?

Thanks anyway,
AhBarnasha

I'm still not sure how, but I want to increase area for the playlist. For now, I like the idea of toggling between large and tiny cover art the most. MAG does not provide builds from my git, install from the attachment.

I think that's on purpose, it gives more space to all the other buttons. The only update is a fix for selecting songs from car and entertainment view.

i could recommend you to use only smaller album art in portrait... leave a landscape the same size.
we still need a tap on it to toggle between pls and slider.

still i must point out that slider and rest of the things in now playing (scrolling pls and selecting tracks) is not so responsive.

let me describe problem: when i want to scroll a track, it moves slider to desired time, than after a half of second, it put it back where it was, and it has not gone to the desired time...
maybe it is depending on a pressure (????)

and just to point out a small glitch: a slider is shrieked when a number of digits is increased in left of slider (current time)

aaaaaaand, some album arts it wont display (???)

all the rest works just fine ;)
keep up the good work

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

well, i finally tried this new mediaplayer a few days ago, and it works as i expected, perfectly! really amazing work guys

i have a bug/request, i was thinking if posting it or not, but as this was intended to be a fullly replacement for mediaplayer, i think this should be solved

the secondary text color (the gray text) should be taken from the theme color scheme, instead of being always gray

here you have an example of what i'm saying, with the open worldclock by cepiperez, look at the pictures, the secondary text in my theme is blue.

also another bug (i think that was already mentioned) is that the "now playing" icon (the blue square with the white circle with a play that shows at the right bottom corner) should hide when i press the list to browse the songs, and should be visible again when i release it.

hope i've been clear describing the bugs, i'm sorry but english is not my first language

once again thank you guys for all your work in this new open media player

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Great work!

A real advancement on the stock player. The only concern about omp I have at the moment is that it's somewhat cruel on the battery. Omp is using around 70%, whereas the stock player only needs 30-40% playing the same track. Is that likely to improve?

I've investigated it the first time you noticed this and the slider doesn't always send a signal when it is moved, I don't know why. However, signals for pressing/releasing are always emitted. They can be used in a workaround, but still I'd like to discover why it doesn't work in its current state.

There is also another reason to read throu the thread, you will get in to the bugs and stuff that have been disscussed throu the process since the initial release of OMP.
If you don know what you are installing you can endup with much trouble that might have been avoided if you had the knowlage of things that could go wrong.
Nothing that is not in Extras is safe to install if you dont know what your doing.

Anyway:
1. Place the archive somewhere on your N900.
2. Open the terminal and navigate to the directory where the archive resides (for example "cd /home/user/MyDocs" if you placed it in the main storage).
3. Extract the archive ("tar -xf omp_xxx.tar.gz").
4a. Navigate to the extracted directory ("cd omp_xxx") and run the installer as root ("sudo sh install_mediaplayer.sh --desktop-file").
4b. If it doesn't work (I'm not sure if sudo is configured out of the box), try "root", then "cd /home/user/MyDocs/omp_xxx", and finally "sh install_mediaplayer.sh --desktop-file".
5. Installer tries to start the player automatically, so you should hopefully see the result right away.

Good luck.

@gidzzz:
i have embedded album-art inside mp3 file... and it wont show.....

ACTUALLY, when i play the song, it shows me album-art for a fraction of a second, and than it just show default art for media player :/

about the responsiveness of slider: is it possible that it is because a way it is program executed maybe (e.g. not installed, just run via ssh command)???

That's because both MafwRenderer and MafwSource are sending different album arts for some reason (one's sending the correct one, the other's sending an empty one), the stock player only sets only one of the set album arts.

Looks good, and basically I would like to see it, but OMP is stock player + portrait mode, candidate to appear in CSSU, so I doubt changing the layout would be good. On the other hand a skin-able OMP would rock :)

Whenever I try to open a video from filebox the media player open then closes and for some videos the media player only play the last song that was playing before

Like zdanee said, it's more about making a replacement for the stock player and I think there should be a stable base to work with before making radical interface redesigns, if any.

From the other news, it's about time for a now build and the accompanying changelog. :)
  • Fixed excessive CPU usage by too many instances of the playlist state indicator being animated.
  • Playlist state indicator is hidden while scrolling, dedicating more CPU time to smooth browsing.
  • Colors aren't hardcoded anymore, they should match your theme.
  • Adaptive loading for the playlist in "Now playing" window. Visible and sorrounding items are loaded first, so even if you throw your whole library at it, there's only little to no waiting time for the items to be filled with song info. I haven't had any problems for a few days, but keep an eye on your playlist and please report any inconsistencies if they occur.

One small request.
Can you make internet radio play right away, after clicked on it's name. Right now i have to click on it and then click one more time play. Or if you/MAG have disabled it, pls explain why, as i could've missed that.
Thanks in advance

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

The new version has indeed much lower power consumption. Not quite as low as stock, but there's no such thing as a free lunch, after all. Well done.

I've got one problem, though: Some time ago I've made some desktop shortcuts to directly start my favourite playlists. Exec line looks like this:
Quote:

Exec=dbus-send --print-reply --dest=com.nokia.mediaplayer /com/nokia/mediaplayer com.nokia.mediaplayer.mime_open string:"file:///media/mmc1/music/Mix.m3u"
This works with stock player (though I've found no way to start in shuffle mode), but with OMP, only the first song in the playlist is loaded. Weird.
