or as in the recent post, if dedicated 'star' & 'R' button will be provided for each ayah, we can invoke it by a horizontal swipe.

I don't know if its feasible.. Swipe on a particular ayah to show the star(favourite) & recitation icon for that ayah alone.

--
another suggestion: remove the arrow images from 'page navigation' bar on sides & make it visible always (with the current level of opacity)

There's no need for a horizontal swipe. Just tap on the aya to display its options.

If we make the navbar always visible then we lose some space for the aya icons...

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

yep you are right.. i thought for the full surah and page recitation and came up the the function button.. ( this can clean up the dockbar i.e. R,T, full surah recite, page recite, and stop buttons can be pushed there in icon formats... :)

tell me your view about it...

thanks

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Why don't we move R and T to the menu then ? The bottom row can be used for icons.

or as in Kasvopus v1.2, Toolbar can be extended to show two lines of icons.

the priority has to be given to functions the user use the most.

it could be (in my case):
1. Translation1
2. Translation2
3. Recitation (continuous, surah)
4. Recitation (single ayah multiple times)
5. bookmark

So in the settings page, if we can choose which all icons to be displayed in the bottom permanent/second row; it will be good as different users have different priorities

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

We don't have a second row but the bottom row of the menu can host icons.

We can put there any extras we need.

We just have to decide which icons go where :)

I hate to refuse features but changing the placement of the toolbar icons will not happen. It's a large task for very little value.

Most of the stuff you want is already easily accessible.

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

i got a new plan of ribbon dockbar, it will contain all icons in one row and wont mess with anything and look cleaner...even the menu items can accomodate in the dockbar... i'm not on PC right now.. so i'll show you the mock-ups later... :)

EDIT
Here is the new Ribbon Dockbar... (T icon moved to Main menu Dock in order to remove 'F'unction button) :)

[Explaination] When main menu is pressed the dockbar changes to the top most dock bar in the mock-up (containing back to default, change translation, settings, information/about, and exit buttons) and when pressed back button it to turns back to default dockbar (i.e middle dockbar in mock-up (this contains page number/index, favorites, recitation dock, fullscreen toggle, and main menu dock) )

To get access to Recitation functions press on 'R' button on default dockbar and get access to those functions (this dock contains back to default, Change recitation, page recitation, surah recitation, and stop recitation buttons)

Edit2: (Some Icons Fixed)

http://dc344.4shared.com/img/F8n68GK...bbonDock_2.png

hope this solves all the confusions and cleans the dockbar with only 5 buttons on each (p.s. increasing buttons on present dockbar increases accidental tap on other buttons so i dont prefer that one.) :)

p.s. all icons are ready, i can send upon request, (only if this idea is good).. ;)

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Sorry for the late reply. I had an accident with my server and had to fix it. I was sick too but I'm back :D

Why don't we make the menu bar with 2 rows ?
Pressing the menu button will bring 2 extra rows on top with the icons you are suggesting ?

1 for extra functionality and the other for recitation functionality ?

We can also keep 6 icons per row instead of 5 in portrait mode and maybe more in landscape ?

Sura recitation cannot be 1 button because we can have multiple suras per page. It could invoke a selection dialog however.

Sura recitation cannot be 1 button because we can have multiple suras per page. It could invoke a selection dialog however.

We can make the only 2 rows (in total, as the same will follow for landscape) same as it is in Kasvopus and not total of 3 rows, as it would look bad.. (lengthy, cover most of the screen), i have a solution for that one, that is can we make 2nd row sliding for more functions, like slide and tap (i saw it somewhere in android launcher ;))
(p.s. 1st row is for recitation function and the 2nd row is for main menu buttons, so both are not required at the same time and we can have only one at a time (i.e. 2rows in total))

We can have only 2 rows at a time that is default and recitation or default and main menu. so three rows is not needed.

Keeping 6 icons in portrait will make it conjusted i think, and the present 5 icons looks good and easy ;)

For the multiple surah per page problem i have an idea, can we add a feature to select a particular surah by selecting its heading and then pressing surah recite button, it would be easy then. :)
EDIT: Alternately a surah recite button in the index itself beside the the surah name..( it would be more easier now).. :)

thanks

p.s. i'll attach the new icons in a couple of hours.. :)

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

OK. I have to face the reality. I have a bad flu and I'm not working as I should.

The priority is to get recitation in a good shape.

The 2 rows menu is a nice to have feature but it's not a priority given the time constrains I have.

I could simply keep the R button in the toolbar (Sorry but we will end up with 6 icons).

The R button will invoke the recitation selection dialog. The recitation selection dialog will have all the controls needed for recitation.

I'm proposing we get it done that way for now. Maybe you all will like it :)

Later on the UI can be fixed as we see fit.

I hope that's fine by everyone :)

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Guess what ? 0.4.0-2 is out!

* Fixed clipping with long translation names (The bug TransTech reported).
* Support for recitations.
* Speed up the page transitions.

Instructions on how to install recitations is available: Settings -> recitations -> add.

All the playback and stopping icons are available by tapping on the verse.
Stopping can be done by holding the N900 face towards the ground or tapping the stop button.

Hope it works fine for you all.

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Just installed the new version. Didnt try out the recitation as I am still downloading it.

Some things I noticed

1. there is a small spelling mistake in the recitation instruction: directpry

2. Can you please move the full screen button to the right-most position as is seen in all other maemo apps? Due to muscle memory, I am constantly pressing the settings button by mistake.

3. Unfortunately, I don't really like the current system of pressing an ayat to get menu. It leads to 2 clicks for each action, even if u dont use all actions equally.
I beleive this can be solved by implementing a setting for default click action (options: ayat recitation, ayat translation and favourites) and the small menu can be shown only in long press of ayat.

Please consider these points.
Jazak Allah.

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

installing the latest update... will tell feedback tomorrow...:) super thanks to @MSameer...

TransTech 2011-09-19 19:57

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

quick feedback....

1. recitation functions buttons under the ayats must be centerized.
2. while translations are hidden these function buttons should hide when translation button is pressed or selected. but should not hide when recitation functions or bookmarks is pressed...

i'll create secondary icons for the function buttons which should appear when the appopriate function is selected and post them tomorrow.. :)

MSameer 2011-09-19 20:26

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@ejasmudar
1) I'll fix the mistake. Thanks for spotting it.
2) I have a problem here. I really like the placement of the menu icon on the right :( Maybe the full screen toggle can be moved to the menu ? Why do you need to click it all the time ?
3) That can be implemented as well. Will do it.

@TransTech
1) That's easy to do.
2) Why ? I have translation hidden all the time. I like to keep them visible. so you can show translation and start audio without too many taps.

What are those secondary functions/icons ?

I guess I was also not accurate with the custom recitation: MP3 naming should follow the zekr format but all the files should be kept in 1 directory and that directory should also contain info.ini

First sura, first aya -> 001001.mp3
4th sura, aya 20 -> 004020.mp3
...

I'm becoming a bit busy with work this week...
I will try to fix the minor stuff but I might not be able to fix everything before I go on vacation. Please bear with me :)

TransTech 2011-09-19 20:38

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@msameer:
2) its acutally ok, i like your idea ;)

the secondary icons are the one which appear when a function is active.. like for bookmarks..

btw all the three recitation function are not present i think...
( still didnt checked all the functions as i'm downloading the mp3s)

its really a big update.. we are happy with the progress and can wait till you came back from vacation :)

Dear MSameer

I have downloaded the recitations zip file and unzipped the sudais-128kbps-offline folder and the recitation.properties file and put in folder /home/user/MyDocs/.n900-quran/recitations but when I run the Quran application it says : "you need to install a recitations first" and there is no recitations in setting menu ie. "0 installed"

Whatt is wrong with my installatin?

Thank you very much for your great job.

[custom recitaton method]
1. Just put this into a text file named [info.ini.txt]:

[recitation]
name=Sudais

2. now save the file and rename it to info.ini (remove .txt extention)

3. Now move this file to the recitation folder (i.e.sudais-128kbps-offline ) hope this works...

[zerk.org download method]
alternately, put the property file you got from the extracted zip file into the recitation folder. (i.e.sudais-128kbps-offline )

:)

put .properties file inside the sudais-64kbps-offline folder and restart the app
edit: if it fails...
make a folder under recitation ex: sudais and move the sudais-64kbps-offline folder and .properties file there and restart the app.

Thank you TransTech for reply

My problem solved :

1- I created a folder named "sudais" in recitations folder
ie. /home/user/MyDocs/.n900-quran/recitations/sudais

2- put the sudais-128kbps-offline folder and the recitation.properties file on it

3 the problem solved

theres a prob in version .4-0 please update either by uninstall reinstall method or download the new version on pc and install using dpkg -i quran~file.deb in xterm

edit.. hard way... if it still fails...

convert it into custom recitation method...i.e create a folder and put all the mp3s (about 6236 files) and an info fie as discribed above move this big folder into recitations folder i.e .n900-quran/recitations/

hope it gets solved by this way...

but i recommend you to update right away...

Sorry guys for the late replies.
@TransTech I don't quite understand the use of the new icons.
I haven't implemented continuous recitation so it's just a missing feature :)

35 and 36 are fine here. Nothing is being cut. In face the text layout is not the same in your screenshot which suggests that the fonr size is neither 35 nor 36

It's 0.4.0-2 and it's the same version you have installed. You are simply not following the instructions.

The proper instructions are the ones by Hamid:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=389

Please follow them.

If someone can write better instructions than me then please do. I'll erase mine and use the more clear ones.

We can also create a wiki page and link to it from the application.

The secondary (new) icons should appear when an option (function) is selected and active like for bookmarks, when there is no bookmarks the button is white with shadow and when the ayat is bookmarked its blue. likewise when recite ayat (current R button) is pressed it turns to bule and when the function is off its white with shadow.. hope you understand..

Thats fine.. :)
