Thing about wazapp is that the service is only free for 1 year. xms is totally free. So I think after that year, some users that don't want to pay will migrate to a free alternative, and am sure xms will be on their list

Yep, also, due to lack of group support, gps and file sending, its just as good as xms on meego or skype atm. Ofc, if wazapp gets those, it probably will become number one.

If you look at this (fairly old) blog post on xms' website:

What is your job at eBuddy? What are you working on at the moment?

I am a Product Manager and I work with the Products and Marketing department. We are working on our amazing new app eBuddy XMS that we released last year for iPhone, Android and Blackberry users. We are now building the complete XMS experience for Nokia, Windows Phone 7 and MeeGo!
According to this and other feedback we have got, they definitely are actually trying to get the same features across all platforms - which if they do deliver, will make it no.1 (for meego atleast).

So- no reply to my problem? :/
Anyway: do you haveto keep it running I'm the background to get push notifs? That's kind of cumbersome.

Hi!
Your app can be closed but push notifications will still be working.

Can you please install the app again and see if you can see the icon?

Thank you in advance,
Aleksandra

I don't believe they would give a damn if you switched phones and rightfully so.

We are all waiting, we are all excited to see if and when Ebuddy delivers.
Unfortunately as Kai pointed out we Meego users are a minority, forgotten by many.
I for one am very happy that there is a company out there who has not given up on us and is working hard to make the Meego expierience complete!

For now, we wait!

I'm in agreement, so long as that last statement from them wasn't just hot air.
We really need to see feature parity soon (even if it's only briefly) & more importantly, stability.
It's not funny any more, they need to come clean on where they're at & when they're delivering.
Heck I'd be quite happy to start paying if they could give us more certainty...

Jay are u looking forward to see Wazapp, you don't seem to be too active in that section plus i know for sure you been supporting XMS big time hence i have it....???? What's your take?

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

More choices can't hurt. Wazapp is an unofficial client and it may be blocked by the server so it may become a cat and mouse game. What I don't like about Wazapp is that the whole app is dependent on 1 person who keeps it closed source. If he loses interest the whole thing is shelved. But eBuddy's lack of priority for MeeGo is also troubling. The situation isn't good for both apps at the moment.

I haven't been active in the maemo/meego community for about 2mth+, too busy IRL :(
When things are less busy, I hope to become much more active again...

Hmm, beta is still v1.0.1031.81-41 and has been for a while. I hope not because I would take a proper supported client over a reverse engineered one any day if it supports group chat and media messaging!

And again... same happened to me already a couple times. Fresh install of XMS (account reset, removing all XMS user files), works a few days or even weeks, but all the sudden push notifications don't arrive anymore...

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

Best way to describe XMS in its current state is: Sporadic functionality.

Sometimes you get push, sometimes you dont. I've upset people who declare they have messaged me and i've ignored it when in reality i havent opened the app for days. For now im sticking to SMS's as XMS offers nothing unique (no group chat, no file sharing etc). Of course international SMS is a different thing.

The app has to be closed source. Releasing the source code will allow WhatsApp to see how it works and then will make it easy for them to block (if they are bothered)

Dear Aleksandra,

Fully appreciated you are perhaps only here to communicate with the Harmattan community (which is appreciated) but the real lack of updates and fixes has hurt XMS's reputation.

I will be moving onto another OS - one which has multiple choices of messaging services and I'm sorry to say XMS will not be my choice of use. I say this with no malice but only to point out that while i was exclusively using Harmattan, XMS was my only real choice and I valued it quite a bit. With a sizable user base, the N9 should really have not been put in the back seat in terms of development/fixture.

Thanks again

Try the following:
Uninstall again
Reboot
Install

If no icon, try this:
Reboot

fire up terminal if still no icon
get root (devel-su/rootme)

Download both attachments and copy to your mass memory (MyDocs folder)
Rename
Code:

xms-qt.desktop.txt
to

Code:

xms-qt.desktop

On the phone, in terminal:
Code:

cd /home/user/MyDocs
cp ./xms-qt.desktop /usr/share/applications/xms-qt.desktop

Check your menu, if there is no icon, type into terminal:
Code:

cp ./xms-qt80.png /usr/share/icons/hicolor/80x80/apps/xms-qt80.png
Everything *should* work as long as the program is installed - if not, reboot and try again.

@Aleksandra - I think many of us in the community are more than willing to test this beta version and provide feedback if you would be kind enough to post it on the beta link or upload it to tmo!!

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

It seems even WP has become a higher priority than Maemo6x, unsurprising I guess.
In the last few days they released the same update they released for BB 8-days before.
This still doesn't get BB/WP up to parity with Android/iOS...
As eBuddy added a new feature that's not yet included in BB/WP/Maemo6x.
But it leaves Maemo6x way behind everyone else.... :(
This WP update may be a sign that the same update is about to come to Maemo6x, but I have my doubts.

xms was a good option since we did not whatsapp, they should have taken advantage of that with some killer features. But unfortunately, it has never been updated while all other platforms has. Now that wazapp is out, I fear that when they finally update, it will be too little too late.

Xms should've focused on platforms that doesn't have whatsapp on them. They could've gained a bigger market share that way

Even though Wazapp isn't an official app but at least it has the support of the community.

XMS is really disappointing. I will just use Wazapp or Google Talk. - XMS uninstalled.

Very well seen. We also talked about that earlier in this thread. I think it's understandable that other platforms have an higher priority, but it's not right at all to constantly tell the Maemo community "We're working on an update" and throw a beta version on Nokia Store which causes them more complains that good reviews.

I used to be a big fan of XMS (used it already on my previous device) but I'm also close on giving up on it. It's a free application, so I guess they can do whatever they want.

Sad that with "Wazapp"- app WhatsApp won again over XMS, now even on the N9. A successful company would see market gaps like a N9 without WhatsApp... That's my opinion, nobody has to share :p

Well thanks to the amazing work of tgalal most people got what they wanted.

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

Tbh, as long as we get a decent client, I'm not reet fussed. While we are at the bottom of the priority list, any support is better than nothing.

As good as wazapp is, there is room for improvement and there is the chance of us all getting booted off due to use of a reverse engineered client.

Re: Ebuddy XMS is out now

all i want is the push to be fixed so that i don't have to constantly open and check xms, i have deleted, restarted and added the Nokia account i don't know how many times just to get the push and still doesn't work. And i can confirm its the xms issue .it the Nokia side issue. Just to check the push i created two Nokia account for Nokia pulse and everytime i check with Nokia pulse the push messages are working, then i try xms and it don't work, so i redo the whole thing, and still doesn't work but the pulse push is working completely fine. I don't want any features like emotions or pictures or videos for now , all i want is a reliable notification of new messages thats all just a push message to work. I asked probably 15 people of my contacts to use xms just so i can be in touch with them as we all live in different countries and xms was the only one i could use to save money on communications with them and now it don't work, yeah if i keep it open its working but i want my phone thru out the day and if i keep xms open it kills the battery within 3 hours.
so please fix the push message atleast.

I feel your pain. MeeGo users have been long neglected by eBuddy.

Have you guys tried GTalk? It is integrated into our OS and push notification works properly. You don't have to run it as an app and it doesn't drain battery. You can see who's online and best of all it just works.

All it requires is for your contacts to have a Gmail account. All Android users should have this already. I'm surprised why anybody would struggle with a half-baked 3rd party app whose owners treats MeeGo users as beggars when GTalk is already integrated into our OS.
