I like the white one, I'm trying to find white N9 here in my country but it's impossible I think.

I'm slightly worried about that glossy finnish, because I like to have a scratchless phone. The black is pretty tough (not a single scratch for almost 5 month).

With the case on, you should wrap it, debris will get in the case and scratch it unintentionally. I don't think the white one comes with the OEM case, it comes with a black nokia pouch instead.

I came from iPhone4 to the N9.

Why? I understand that my reasoning may not suit everyone, but this is why I did:
1. The iPhone4/4S is a drab brick... nothing unique no more.
2. It's pretty heavy.
3. It's a common sight nowadays... every one has it. Where's the specialty?
4. With iPhone I've to stay with Rogers or Bell, & their plan costs r a killer. While, with N9 I could go to Wind or Mobilicity (like T-Mobile) & save! If u r in Canada u'd know what I'm talking about. N9 being AWS compatible - definitely helps.
5. And N9 is beautiful, a design marvel. I've no issues with it's functionality as well. It works for me... pretty good too.

If you really want one and don't mind paying tax both ways http://viestimaa.fi/en/home

Jari Hepolammi should help you out if they still have stock. I got mine from there shipped to South Africa.

So whats the consensus on protecting this baby? I dont believe in cases as they add too much bulk and hide the beauty, but I've barely used the N9 so far in case I scratch it (my 4 month old black Lumia 800 is hammered up just from normal use).
Already the silver part at the back is scratched just from placing it on the table. Someone mentioned using varnish so I have to try and find the guide for that.
Not heard much good about the ZAGG shield, it has an orange peel affect and swipes can become unresponsive, also its expensive.
Any one tried this IPG shield? Im not sure it covers the top and bottom.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IPG-Nokia-...item19cc112102
Another option is the skinomi shield but I cant tell if that is better or worse than ZAGG.
GadgetShieldz seem to have a full body cover for a good price:
http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/nokia-n...s-shields.html If I cant find anything better I might buy this, or just keep the N9 naked and replace the housing 6 months down the line...
Any other options?

7.99 with free shipping is a great price, at that I'm going to take the chance, if it isn't great I won't feel bad removing it again. Thanks for the find.

I suggested using clear varnish, and here are the 'comparable' results - mind you, the black one has been in use for 3+ months while the unicorn edition has been with me for just a month and I probably was a bit more careful with it than my girlfriend with the black one tho I didn't hesitate to put it on a table or whatnot.

Also, images taken free-hand under poor lighting with the N900's camera so don't expect great amount of details, but the difference is pretty much obvious: https://picasaweb.google.com/sxdesig...eat=directlink

What is not shown on the images is that the white one has a small scratch as well (visible only under intense light at extreme angles) that will have a tendency to flake in the future - it's not a scratch on the metal plate itself but on the clear varnish coat on top - once those scratches become more prominent the fix will be easy - just remove the clear coat and re-apply it again. When it comes to the visual appearance, the reflectivity is pretty much the same, although the 'varnished' one appears a tad bit darker and milkier (barely noticeable, tho - you need another pristine N9 side-by-side to see the difference).

As for how to do it - you don't need any special guide, the process is dead simple:
  1. Clean the plate thoroughly with soapy water and a cloth that leaves no fibers
  2. Dry it really well (I used a hair dryer)
  3. Mask everything else with tape
  4. Mask the lens really well (I used several layers of tape and a small cotton ball at the bottom)
  5. Spray evenly with uniform side-to-side motion about 2/10 mm of clear varnish on top of it (depends on the spray nozzle and how fast you move it should be about 2-3 passes)
  6. Wait about 5 minutes and spray another coating layer to even it out
  7. Wait at least an hour for it to settle down and cure (this, of course, depends on the varnish you used)
  8. If it somehow got to the places you didn't want (look at an extreme angle with powerful lighting will show it), remove the varnish carefully with some acetone or other mild thinners that can act as a solvent for the varnish you used

That's pretty much it. I used a clear varnish that I use to fix my rims after I curb them, but any varnish that doesn't affect the color and doesn't affect the reflectivity all that much should do. Don't use wood-only varnishes, tho, as they might not stick to the plate (it's extremely polished so even metal/plastic varnishes hardly stick to it). Also, the coating can make it appear even worse if it's already scratched - you might want to polish it with some mild abrasive polish paste first.

And, of course, do this at your own risk, it worked for me but I cannot guarantee it will work for everyone.

Good luck

Managed to find this on the gadgetsheildz full body protection for the N9, some nice clear pics...

http://meegocrusader.blogspot.co.uk/...dz-for-n9.html

So clearly the front screen protector is not quite edge to edge which has put me off, that would be a true feast for my OCDs!

Looks good for the price though.

What type of account, email or Nokia store? If the latter you could have problems, my previous black 64gb N9 had to be returned as couldn't log in or create a new Nokia account. No amount of reflashing or updating helped.

Can anyone comment on the Melkco jacka case for the nokia n9? Does it hinder the screens edge swiping? I found these on Ebay:

Does anyone know if these are legit or knockoffs?

I have the Melkco Jacka case and highly recommend it, shared some photos of it infact a page or so back within this thread I think, will have a look and edit it here if I can find it.

I don't find much of an issue with swype, although it does ever so slightly impede on side swypes from the edge of screen. I quickly discovered a simple solution to this tiny problem by swyping right to left from the cut out area where the volume and lock buttons are, this works perfectly for me.

As for the seller, I think they are genuine, however for the same price you can buy from this official reseller(I discovered then from the Melkco website sellers list) who also offer free international shipping, is where I purhcased mine from... http://www.carrymobile.com/

[EDIT] Here you go, taken from the recommended cases thread....

Fits like a glove, and unlike many of the N9 cases of this type, doesn' cover the speaker when closed which I thought was pretty important considering the N9 doesn' have the loudest ringer.

I bought one and they look very nice, holding the phone with the cover on feels very positive and that it will not slip out of your hands.

The down side is they are badly designed.

The sides that grab the phone are hard plastic and should have been covered with leather, the result is grit has got in and my white glossy phone has now been scratched. The damage is on the left side along side the screen. You can barely see it but the scratches are there - so be warned! I am back to using the pouch the phone came with.

Re: The White N9 thread

Thanks for the replies, I think ill get it from carrymobile.com, the ebay seller is from Hong Kong, not sure if it would be a knock off. As for the grit getting inside, I also bought a skinomi full body protector, hopefully it will save the glossy finish.

Mine is fine so far. I don't think this is a bad design, more a risk you run with any case that attaches to the back(or more the sides) of the phone(have even heard of people gaining grit scratches from the official Nokia soft covers that come with the non white N9's).

As far as I can tell all of the full cases in this style have hard edges to teh sides, unless more expensive cases such as the Noreve differ, difficult to tell from looking at images but I doubt it's 100% leather without the hard edges, perhaps somebody that owns one can confirm?

No it isn't magnetic, it just pushes over the sim tray part, opens/closes easliy though and holds its position very well.

I was torn between the green and white and the one I purchased, I owned a black N9 at time of ordering otherwise I would have for sure gone for teh green/white, would have made a lovely match for a white N9.

I'm pretty sure that ebay seller is genuine, the official seller I linked to was also based in Hong Kong so no need to read into that to be honest. It's the only person selling them on ebay and if they were fakes I'm sure there would be more of them, even the price matches the official resellers price.

Actually I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it's the same base, now I think of it I remember sending both the seller I linked to, and that seller on ebay a question prior to ordering, and had the exact same response from both.

Couldn't be, 'coz:
1. There r 15 varieties of China clones in the mkt; all with great finish - a layman cannot distinguish between the original & the fake, neither after booting it unless s/he knows the feel of Meego-H.
2. Nokia itself doesn't sell in that price, wherever they do (e.g. Dubai, Oman etc), neither the carriers there (e.g. Etisalat, Omantel etc.) who dole-out N9s, both contracted & unlocked.

The whole site looks fishy to me. If you click on contact us it's a UK address, yet if you try to calculate shipping and select Great Britain as your country, it comes back with "There are no shipping methods configured for this location."

Personally I wouldn't chance it.

Amazon has some but they go for 600. but if you contact the seller "transformergsmphone" (i think that was the name, or close enough to it) he can let you pick a chinese or finland made one.

I love my white N9, however I may consider selling it or trading it just to see what I can get for it =X... don't flame! I am going to try and keep it for as long as possible.

Surprisingly, I have received many offers on craigslist (that I have turned down), but people generally appreciate the N9.
