Oooooop Guess what? Postie just stuck his head around the corner of my house and handed me my replacement!! After all that yesterday I was gobsmacked.

Put my T mob Sim in - haven't turned it on but put it on charge for a few hours.- Those of you who have a working phone- how long should I leave it charging initially?

Wohooooooooooooooooo! Karl saved the day maybe?!

Great great news!!!
I charged it for 5 minutes before i gave up and used it :) - worked fine :)
Have to admit i was at work, so after an hour of charging i left it plugged in for a few hours - it was then fully charged :)

Thought I'd pop back on here - really glad to see everyone from all those weeks ago seems to have gotten sorted now.

Great news to hear that yours has been sorted at last too, Ninja!

Had mine 3 weeks now (I think) and had no problems at all - what an amazing piece of technology!

Yes he did. Credit where credit's due, Nokia Manchester and MPD, pushed by Karl all worked very hard and very quickly to get this one sorted for me. I am very impressed this time. I called them all independently to let them know when it came so they could stop the wheels they'd set in motion yesterday, but they had all been involved and let each other know what was going on. A+

(oh and I had my sim card sent back through the post before all of this because I'd sent it back with the phone.)

So- question is, does it work? It does seem to be charging ok. I'm going to do somethign that goes very much against the grain, be patient, and wait until the green light comes on before I turn it on.

Bumblebee, I really hope yours is sorted today as well. :)

MPD was only one I could find online with contract, £30 per month T-mobile...

I had to chase the stores to find out what was going on. Then early Dec I got a phone call from a nice chap saying my n900 was being delivered and gave me a tracking ID.got mine 2/3 weeks ago, great fone

it works! it works! Not a single reboot in 6 hours and the mic works.
Wow this is amazing. 30 minutes and I'd bluetoothed all my contact and calendar over and set up 4 email accounts. Wonderful.

They told me to take it to their nearest repair centre (I had a choice of two closest ones so I took it to Doncaster) who wanted it for 24 hours, that's all. I had to leave it for 3 days because of work/distance etc.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Does anyone know a way to contact MPD by phone other than the number on the contact us page?

The store number can't help as its n on-line order and I can't get through on the main number?

Ive had my phone for 2 weeks. Im porting my number from '3' to Voda and either Voda or MPD have messed up. On Monday my port seemed to happen. I got disconnected from 3. But it didn't complete. My number is now not connected to 3 or Voda. Its ported away from 3 and not connected to Voda. Voda won't talk to me and say they haven't received the PAC code. How did my number get disconnected from 3 if this was the case? They say to phone MPD. MPD don't answer their phones though. On the one occasion I did get through to MPD they simply told me to wait as Voda are running behind and didn't want to look into it. I'm a bit lost what to do.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I'd email Karl - that seems to work for everyone here so far :) :)
(Just search this thread for Karl Borges - i think that was his name :) - good luck! - or possibly call Vodafone, they have also been very helpful in the past to people :)

Thanks, I'll try Karl

I've phoned Voda now 5 times over the last week and each time got sent back to MPD with the same story that they don't have the PAC (I abbreviated that in my in initial post). Just don't understand how my number is now not connected to my old provider if that is the case.

Are you able to skip MPD now and just get the pac yourself and send it on? :) - don't know if it's possible?

Wish I had asked this question last week. I emailed Karl who within the hour sorted it out. I am now connected :) I even got a call from David Urch to apologise and make sure I got connected.

the big question is......????

Did everyone who ordered in September, October and November receive their phones, and even their replacement phones before Xmas? :) :)

Thankfully, yes- and so far it's working like a dream (my number doesn't port over til tomorrow) and the longer i play with this thing, the more i'm falling absolutely in love with it.

One thing though.. I put all my email details in to set up 3 accounts which all run from my website server. they were all accepted, but when I send/receive, I'm not getting anything coming through. Any ideas? Surely i can't have made a mistake in them all.

I find that my Hotmail account fails to connect fairly often however emails that are set-up on my own server connect absolutely fine.

The only thing I can say is the obvious. Double check your user-name, password and pop3 settings and maybe try different ports if you can open them up on your email server.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Hey ninjaboxergirl I am really happy for you - you finally got your hands on a fully working N900!

I've had enormous fun using mine over the past few weeks.

Unforunately MPD did not transfer my existing number (what's the bloody point of asking for it when I ordered it?) to Vodafone - I had to arrange that myself. To be fair Vodafone sorted it out in a few days.

One of my work mates just bought an HTC Hero (android phone) and looks at my N900 with envy - very satisfying!

However, one shortcoming of the N900 is that the free disk space on the rootfs is very small. Apparently if you run out of disk space the N900 does not cope very well and many people have had to re-flash the phone!

So only installed apps that have been "optified" - these apps install to a 2gb partitiion instead and mainly avoid the rootfs.

Oh and another thing I noticed. If you connect the N900 (without "switching it on") to a pc via USB you will get a slow transfer rate. Make sure the LCD screen is lit on N900 first - then plug into pc - your transfer rate will be better.

Apart from that - absolutely love it.

Hi Guys,

I came across your forum last night after placing an order and getting worried it was a scam.here's my MPD journey...

I placed my order at 2PM yesterday. I never heard anything apart from the automated 2 e-mails. I sent a few e-mails and never got any reply. I also e-mailed karl today and got an auto responder to say he was out of the office until the 21st of September!. I never got a tracking number but my order status did go to "complete" Also the e-mails were gargled with all the information on it not entered)

I was just about to try and cancel thinking it was a farce when my wife texted me at 9:20am today to say the phone had arrived and as I type this it's sat in it's box next to me.

So atleast the next day delivery is honoured. However the lack of communication does worry me.. infact it worries me alot!

Thanks for reading

Pete

(Edited to say that my order came from the reading retail store)

Hi pete, nice to have you on the forums.
I think you got an easy ride, but yes the communication is far from good....

I suppose they are all probably on holiday and have had enough!!
Let us know how you get on with the device! and Happy New Year!

Hi Pete, yes easy ride sounds right lol as i didnt get mine yet (ordered on 27/12), i had an email an hour ago from guilford store saying mine wont be sent till monday and i will get it tuesday even tho i spoke to MPD today and they said its been despached, congrats on your new machine, how are you enjoying it so far? and as noobmonkey said, happy new year.

Happy new year to you guys too!

I've not got it out the box yet. Ill get time tonight and ill let you know. Ive had almost every new phone out there to date and I still get exicted. i am suprised I got accepted I got out of a vodafone contract about 3 months in due to porr signal. Only lastnight did I realise they did it on tmoible - but for £30 a month ill survive. i want the phone for the features more than the phone service really.

it works out about £700 over the course of the contract and i ususally break phones so im sure ill get me moneys worth

my word internet is fast on voda. its nothing like my N97. MPD told me not to order my phone as it would be the same as a n97 signal wise but hell is it. took seconds to download a 6.5MB file over 3.5G wicked
