Re: Sygic announces world-wide turn-by-turn navigation for Maemo
I had for the North, Central & South America Regions, only the selection of US. And that appeared well after the end of the working week in Belgrade.
Canada and Mexico are not part of the US, unless Mr. "O" made some changes I'm not aware of. <grin> I think Sygic is a good, dedicated company, and I would expect the other maps for this part of the world to be available shortly. Sorry for the rant, but I understand the N900 has been rather frustrating - My 5800XM Euro model is still much better in many ways - but I bought my N900 with open eyes, knowing it was a new, rather than a mature OS. ------ Aztekker |

I went to the ZIP file link in the e-mail and with Windows, right clicked upon it and chose to "save target" to my desktop. I unzipped the archive on the desktop then opened the new folder "SetupSMM_Maemo_USA". I connected the N900 via USB and chose "Mass storage mode" Opened the N900 removable storage drive from my desktop computers' file manager and copied the directories found in the unzipped "SetupSMM_Maemo_USA" folder over to the N900. I also copied over to the N900 the SetupMobileMaps.deb file that I found in the unzipped folder. Unplugged the N900 and openned its file manager, selected the SetupMobileMaps.deb and rocked on. The whole think took about 25 minutes. I went to the Sygic site, registered and logged in and then followed the activation instructions. I'm now going to find zehjotkah's customization threads. I must say how similar the lay-out and menu's appear to Tom-Toms. I'll know shortly what the directory structure looks like and if these similarities end. :) BTW, has anybody said what format POI's are in and if Sygic provides a converter? |

I think you want Ov2Upi Translator 2.9.exe, but I haven't quite gotten it to work with the US maps yet.

When I have sucsesfully installed my personal poi's already in Ov2 format, I will start a new POI thread and provide links to useful tools. It shouldn't be to hard then to add a new menu item to Sygic on the first menu page that can minimize the sucker from full screen. |
