Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
No idea. Are you positive the GPS has a position lock? Mine shows everything with no problems. If it's sending NMEA data, MM should get it. What happens when you tell MM to go to GPS location? It will continue to show the last location it knows about until you tell it to do something else, if it doesn't have a current position. What do the details show for fix and fix quality? Sats in use?

Installed the latest version for the N810 and it works great. Found my GPS with no problem. I am however having difficulty finding the dev for flite. I'd love to try the voice announcements.

Thanks to gnuite, John Costigan and the developers.
I got the latest version running on OS2008 on my N800 without any problems. It works great. Connected to my GPSlim236 effortlessly. Downloaded lots of maps of my favorite places. Figured out how to set route points and way points and how to download directions over the Internet. This package puts Wayfinder to shame. It gives me what I need to keep from getting lost, and it's a blast. Cheers. |

So, did you get flite running on it for voice announcements? If so, how did you get festival lite loaded?

It is almost as if MM is sending some config data to the GPS, which I was under the impression that MM transmits nothing. Is there perhaps some way to verify that no information is being transmitted from the tablet to the GPS? I've seen some people discussing /dev/rfcomm0 for received sentences; is there an equivalent for transmissions? |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
John, thanks for the explanation, but I have no internet connection on the road, nor will I have anytime in the foreseeable future. I do understand the limitations of the raster maps, and I'm not really complaining. I would be willing to pay for vector capability, as I already have with Mapopolis, and until it's available I'll probably stay with Mapopolis, because it works, and works well. The maps are getting rather old, but fortunately streets rarely move very far. I can get newer maps on MM, and view them if necessary, even if it's not possible to route off them. BTW, have you given any thought to compiling MM for other Linux distros? I have an Asus Eee that works very well in the car, and having MM on that would be very nice. It comes with Xandros, a Debian fork, and .deb files install easily. Just in case you have nothing better to do... :D

No I haven't been able to get either MM or Map to use my GPS10. What is strange though is if I pair my GPS10 with the N800 and neither map program is running, I can display my location with the GPS Icon in Control Panel, so the N800 does read the GPS10, just neither of the map programs do. They do, however, triger the GPS icon in the task bar at the top. I'm starting to believe it's a bug in how GPS data is transmitted to the applications. Also, I can't seem to change the configuration of my GPS10 with the Garmin snsr config app. It acts like the new configuration is being uploaded to the GPS10, but if I retreive the configuraton from the GPS10, it is the same as it was before uploading the new config. The GPS10 does work with non-Garmin apps on other devices, just not the N800. Also , the GPS10 did work with an earlier version of MM under OS2007, it seems between the upgrade to OS2008 and MM, something has broken, because it no longer works with MM if I downgrade to OS2007. I even tried reinstalling older versions of MM. |
Re: Maemo Mapper v2.2 for OS2006/OS2007/OS2008
Is it possible to use MM WITHOUT GPS simply as an offline map? What I'd like to do is to download enough maps to cover NY,CT,RI and MA and just use a device as a road atlas offline. Is it possible? I cannot figure out a way to get area maps without specifying longitude/ latitude.
