mischmich try kmplayer. it's a bit fiddly getting the hang of it but it's my go to app for bbc streams. I find it quicker to get a stream up and running.

Oh and if you want to 'listen again' on iplayer, try RadioTimeToGo. You can search for the stream/podcast and when you click play it sends the link for the stream into kmplayer and starts playing.

I went over to mozilla's support forums, and they recommended the following:

In the address bar, type:

about:config

This will bring up firefox's configuration menu. A search bar will appear on that of that tab, along with a frakload of variables. You should look for the following ones:

toolkit.browser.cacheRatioHeight = 3000 -> Change it to 2000
toolkit.browser.cacheRatioWidth = 2000[/i] -> See below; I leave it unchanged

The toolkit.browser.cacheRatioWidth variable has a value of 2000, and while the mozilla support staff person who oriented me mentioned a value of 1200, based on former builds, I left it at 2000; if you check out fennec nightly builds, you'll see that they were way faster than unconfigured RC1; it appears the above configuration changes are the culprit, they were changed from the recommended values above in more recent builds. I'm not sure if setting toolkit.browser.cacheRatioWidth to 1200 will improve speed, and I'm too lazy to check it out myself ;) , since I got RC1's speed on par with previous builds, but feel free to check it out.

Btw, I can run youtube videos and browse 10 tabs with a little performance hit, and open about 15 tabs with no flash content, with no performance hit whatsoever; if I add overclocking to the mix, things go even more smoothly. microB is facing retirement, as it stands :) .

I might as well make a topic out of this... I've posted that one before, and it seems people have missed out.

Thanks Number41. That does the trick. Takes a while to get there, but once it does it does the job. And I can do other stuff on another tab at the same time, go back to other tabs, etc. Still can't get video - but that is probably because of the BBC restrictions on iPlayer. The only way I get UK TV on the laptop is setting up Tor on firefox and using anonymous proxy to access iPlayer. I tried it out on YouTube, and that seems to work too - Gary Moore singing 'Still got the Blues' on my n900 right now. Thanks a million. Dunno what version of flash it is using, but as long as it works - and doesn't keep telling me I need to install flash - I'm happy. Very impressive.
