@abill_uk, calm down. A bit of constructive criticism never hurt anyone.

Anyhow, if someone seriously wants the powers to be to take an action in regards to this subject, I'd recommend submitting a proposal to the community council. Whining about tags in two separate threads isn't really going to get attention you require.

And you are as much to blame as the others for this, if you had ignored the posts against you it wouldn't have carried on, and if you want to respond you can do it privately as a PM, but if someone winds you up, the best thing to do is ignore it and move on, this is a lot easier to do online than some real life situations. This sort of off-topic arguing is far more disruptive than any tags. And back on topic, if you don't like them ignore them, I've never tagged any threads and they are so easy to ignore I can go through 10 pages of a thread and not notice a single tag.

Here is another suggestion for how to deal with inidviduals you believe are simply trolls.

As has been pointed out in another topic, this is like stating that neither we should have rules prohibiting offending or trying to offend other members. What you're proposing is simply that we turn these forums into a free-for-all flamewar zone, after all, one should simply ignore offensive comments.

I don't know, but I think we should take a clear stance, here: Should we simply assume that bullying others, whether forum members or children, perhaps is no more than a means for self-expression? Is this really where the community stands?

Maybe the tagging system isn't an issue for you or for me, but truth is, it's useless now as it stands, if not for a means to bully others and make sarcastic anonymous remarks; why not go all the way and enable anonymous postings, as well, so that when I feel like trolling the hell out of a thread, I might as well do so without staining my own user name?

I think there's no clear distinction between the two scenarios.

And it seems a lot of people participate on the tagging jokes than they'd care to admit, given the number of "I don't care about tagging, but please allow for tag trolling to continue" responses... Hmm... If no one cares/reads them, it sure makes me wonder why that attitude is kept up.

Point taken.

Personally, I don't think this is a worthwhile issue to burden the mods and council members with. There is no real gain to be had by 'fixing' the unbroken tag system.

ps: if you bother to do a search, there are a couple of similar threads like this in the past; even one where a senior mod pondered about turning off the feature altogether.

Okay at the 4 who seem to be having a little argument/hissy fit with eachother.

How old are you? Because I'm 17 and reading your comments is actually cracking me up!

Now, you can all turn on me for what I am about to say. But tbh I cudnt give a crap. But how about you ALL STFU and stay on topic.

I DONT care who started it, I am asking you along with most of the other members on this forum to just stop having a go at eachother!

If somebody posts something you don't like just ignore it. If somebody posts something that isnt right in the sense of programming skills or development, then feel free to comment. That is after all what this forum was intended to be used for.

HELPING people. Not chidlishly arguing, im pretty sure you all have other more pressing matters to attend to in your life then acting like a bunch of squabbling 10 year olds...

Hey man, I always believe that no matter how old you become, we must never lose sight of the 10 year old in us.

Also,

Bart: "Inside every hardened criminal beats the heart of a ten-year-old boy."
Lisa: "And vice versa."

Re: The Tag Trolling issue

Forum tagging system isn't the issue here. It's not even remotely technical in nature.

When someone feels the need to write long public rants and derail (good) threads because they feel offended by someone else's post, comment or tag; because they feel they're not respected enough by other members; or other issues that are personal and subjective by nature...

...imho that's a (community) issue at play here, which will not go away if you disable the thread tag system.

And I think they should just use the 'report this' feature if the offensive post/person did not act in accordance to the forum rules, rather than try to rail up the community without familiarizing themselves with all the rules and regulations already in place to handle such issues.
