No I ordered the £30+Web, £141 the handset (-30 hopefully cashback from topcashback), 12 months, 300min. I have not checked my credit card but I doubt if it's billed yet.

When do they actually do the credit checks on contracts? When you place the order or just before they ship it?

I noticed a few days after I placed my order with MPD that T-mobile debited then credited my account for a few quid - I'm assuming that was me passing the check?

Yes,
I am showing the same on my card, debit for £2 and then a credit for £2.
This is part of their credit check when you apply..

Same had a friend of mine, who also ordered N900 with T-Mobile contract via MPD. However, I just checked my account history, and can't find any £2'ish debit/credit movement since the date of placing the order... :/ Or perhaps T-Mobile skipped credit check once they checked I am already their customer with two pay monthly numbers? Well, time will tell...

I was just about to say the same thing - they haven't even done a credit check with Experian.

Me too :)

Surely it's more of a direct debit check (to make sure the account is real) than a credit check?

Oh - they don't seem to offer that anymore :(

Anyone hitting up the NFS today to see if they have them in stock? I'd be hoping retailers like MPD would be receiving their shippments today if they'e planning on sending them out to us on Monday as was announced.

NFS is quite consistent saying they will have N900 in stock next week. I've called them before yesterday, and been there yesterday...

There's no point tying youself into an expensive 24 month contract if in a month's time a better deals arrives. And who knows, by then someone on this forum could be disappointed with their phone and may want to offload it. There's a guy at work selling his 1 month old N97 for £250 now, hefty discount!

Not a direct debit check, more like a card verification check.
To ensure that the card is valid and it is registered at the billing address. This helps speed up the end process for delivery.

24 months isn't an issue for most people. Some people get on that contract just for the handset then put it on the bay to pay for the entire contract.

try a nokia store, i went into the flagship one on Regents St (London) and they are now able to do contracts, I'm due an upgrade on my current Voda contract so Nokia are upgrading my package and sorting out an unbranded N900 as a free upgrade...no waiting til Jan/Feb for a branded one!

Hey you all, I've been lurking for a week or so an thought I'd say 'Hey'.

I went to the Regent St Nokia store yesterday and had a play with the N900. Asked one of the sales guys about contracts. The Nokia store are exclusively doing t-mobile and vodafone contracts at the mo. The phones should be ready to pick up on Thurs or Fri, but I've been advised to telephone in advance to make sure phones are available.

Otherwise, it will be late Jan before you can get the N900 on contract in a Voda or T-mobile store.

Btw, www.nokiaretail.co.uk website, maintaned by MPD, is now showing "late November" as N900 delivery date. :/ Just wondering whether that applies to pre-ordered units as well, or just new orders placed from now on...

I'd like to know this too.

I just called them, and I quote 'We don't have it at the moment, but when we do have it, we should have it on (contract) Vodafone and T-Mobile.'

Yes, T-mobile contracts in the Nokia store.

I don't know what contracts. I mentioned my current T-mobile contract (flex 40) and the sales guy said that the phone would be free (probably) if I continued with my contract.

biggzi 2009-11-16 16:33

Re: N900 UK Networks

Just spoke to the Nokia store (regents street) on the phone and the guy said its free on vodafone (24 month) 600mins, Unl texts & Unl internet (£40 per month). I then said that mobilephonesdirect had exactly the same deal but on an 18 month contract. The guy on the phone then said that they are partnered with mobilesphonesdirect but he wasn’t aware of that deal. He said that a guy from mobilephonesdirect was coming into the store in a bit and he would check with him and that I should call back in about an hour and he’ll let me know what they can do. He didn’t mention and T-mobile contracts.

If I can get that deal on an 18month contract I’m ganna pop into the store after work and get mine pre-ordered. But ill let u guys know what he says when I speak to him.

Waiting to hear what happens - the woman I spoke to on the phone told me they don't have any until the phone is released.

Re: N900 UK Networks

Ok, I just spoke to the guy again and he said that the 18 month contract must be an online deal only and that my best option would probably be just to come into store when they actually have the phone in. This sounds like a stupid suggestion to me considering the amount of people that are waiting on this handset. He assured me though, that they would be getting quite a lot of the phones in soon. He said that they are hoping to get them end of this week/beginning of next week.

I want my N900! (on an 18month contract!) :( lol

andygt 2009-11-16 17:33

Re: N900 UK Networks

Why don't you just order it from the nokia retail site?
The deal you want is still on there.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR THOSE WHO PREORDERD THROUGH MPD

For those who have bought a contract/N900

You do realize that your phone will not dispatch on the day they get it, right?

They have to do a credit check and crucially that credit check will not take place until the phone is in stock.

And each credit check can take 1-5 days.

I was informed of this today, therefore I canceled and preorderd with nokia (not nokia retail)

mpd told me different that they would send it day after they get them in stock, that i would get it on the 17th when my puk code runs out from vodafone

1 to 5 days? That doesn't sound right. A credit check with experian is pretty much instant. If I walk into a phone shop tomorrow they can do a credit dip and sign you up there and then.

I reckon MPD might be telling porkies.

maemojedi 2009-11-16 22:51

Re: N900 UK Networks

Nope

Not true

People want this phone so badly that they'll disregard my advice but here's what happened to me...

I signed up to experian to check my credit history and found that the most recent credit search on my name took place last week.

Which I found confusing seeing as I ordered my n900 on a tmobile contract early in oct.

So I rang up. Spoke to a girl who said it would be dispatched the day they get it in yada yada. Then I explained my position, experian etc etc. And she immediately sounded guilty.

So I asked to speak to the manager who then explained that my credit report was accurate and that their policy is to only do a credit check once the phone is in stock.

I'm sure to the unsuspecting they'll continue with the line "Shipping will commence immediately once we receive stock."

Because it is partly true. Sim free orders will be dispatched.immediately Contract deals however, well you'll have to wait for that.

& I'm sure people will be quick to respond by telling me "MPD SAID AS SOON AS THEY GET STOCk"

While conveniently forgetting mpd up until sunday night were promising to start deliveries 16.11.09. / TODAY

This validity of the above is easily checkable

Um, no, credit check takes 10 minutes. Who told you that it takes up to 5 days?
Haven't you seen adverts all around on all mobile operators saying next day delivery on phone contracts?

I confirm that T-Mobile performed a credit check on me on the day I provided them with my details, i.e.: 7th October. FYI, I never had a contract phone (let alone with T-Mobile) and never bought anything from MPD.

Re: N900 UK Networks

i wanna tell all of you regarding the credit check that the day (5 oct) when i pre-ordered mine after one day i called MPD that when should i receive the phone so they asked me the order no. when i tell them they said that you credit check has been approved so will get it as soon as we will get it in stock and they were right because i asked T-mobile checked my account and i hv seen in my statement that tmobile charged me 4 pounds but after 2 days they refunded the money that shows that they do credit checks as soon as they receive the details....Hope this help you all....

I was told they did a credit check WHEN I ORDERED too (as the money went on temporary hold in my account so I range to see what what happening) so it SHOULD ship immediately.

Like others have said, even if they did DID do the credit check later it takes a matter of seconds to do so would only delay if you were denied credit.
