A little help request: how *exactly* do I make an LXDE session full screen?
|

i just have to create a new 'Desktop' folder in /home/user/ and then copy the .desktop file needed. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I've got a problem,Debian LXDE won't start up anymore after i clicked the Debian chroot too check it out.
Debian LXDE will hang and Xorg is hogging the cpu usage, i have too reboot. Is this a mounting problem? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Qole: doing "df -h" in the chroot puts out "df: no file systems processed"... is this related to the problems with fuser?

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I cobbled together a version of dm_loop for Fremantle. Please check (after it settles in extras-devel) if it's of any use in Easy Debian.
|
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
attilla77: according to Matan earlier in this thread, dm-loop doesn't add any speed to the loop; in fact he said it slowed down the loop slightly. His tests also suggested that the loop speed in Fremantle was very close to the hardware speed...

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
workaround for the df problem, add a / to the end:
Code:
df -h / |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Yeah, I know, but it did feel faster for stuff on my microSD. Might be my microSD or placebo, don't know. Was working with RAID stuff (don't ask) so dmloop was a freebie...

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Just bought N900! Install Easy Debian! Thanks!
But I found some problem: when I leave LXDE session with Ctrl-bakspace and run "Fix LXDE keyboard" and return back, session leaves itself after few seconds, I can print maximum only around 10 letter before. I wonder if it happens only with me :) If it is important - im using Easy Debian on 5Gb ext2 partition on SD, not image file. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
do you think it's possible to add this theme ( http://nxy.in/ovuoi ) to Easy Debian ? if yes should be really fun :)

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Has anyone managed to get FileZilla to install through Synaptic? come dependancies get a 404 error.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Is it possible to make Fn key pressing in Easy Debian the same as in Maemo. Now user need to hold Fn key constantly while pressing another key. But in maemo Fn press "saves" some time.

Talking about a new image, I finally have figured out how to get sound working for the N900. See this post for more information. I would still like to figure out why java doesn't work in the Fremantle chroot browsers, and hopefully fix it before releasing a new image. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
How I can install icewm on this LXDE? I tried to access a configuration script from command line (LXTerminal) but it says "Permission denied"... I even tried from X Terminal with root access but it's the same... Can anyone help

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
megaexer: use the red-swirl icon ("Debian chroot") in Maemo to get a root terminal. Using this, I was able to edit the /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/config file with no problems.
I'm not sure what advantages IceWM has over Openbox... Why do you want to switch? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
It's weird but from chroot i still get "permission denied", it's incompatible? I downloaded icewm 1.3.6
icewm has nice themes at box-look.org, that's why I'd try it. edit. I got it to work, downloaded it from Synaptic package manager |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
I'm on fire this week! :D
Got Java working in the browser again! It seems to be tied to the "classpath" package. Still not sure what I did, though... http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4046/...b4756277_o.png |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
OpenOffice.org 3.2.0 has been released. Wonder when will it be available on Debain (and Easy Debian).

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Well I notice that they've completely pulled openoffice.org 3.1 from the squeeze and sid armel repositories, probably because of the bug we discovered.
They have 3.2 RC1 in the armel experimental repo. All the other architectures get RC5; I wonder why? |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
great stuff. Anyway to just get Open office, instead of all the other apps?

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
So, not surprisingly, Java and GConf errors were both solved by downgrading all associated packages to their Lenny versions. This new image is shaping up nicely.

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Ok, so now that Java is working in the browsers again, what should I keep? Firefox/Iceweasel 3.5? Heavier but all the latest features... Or just Epiphany (gecko), lighter-weight, simple, useful for running Java applets, not much else...?
Should I include printing support (cups) and windows network support (samba)? What about a full-featured e-mail program? Thunderbird/Icedove 3 works in Easy Debian, although it suffers the same problems as many desktop apps on the N900; too cramped and a bit slow. Are there other, even more powerful e-mail apps available in Debian? I am going to try LZMA compression for the next image. It seems that it is speedier to decompress than bzip2 while giving good compression. There used to be a post about this somewhere, but I can't find it! |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Personally Im using only Iceweasel. Samba yes, it would be very useful.

I had been hesitant about installing Easy Debian until yesterday, when VNC'ing into my N900 at 800x480 just wasn't cutting it any more. I now have Easy Debian up and running, and I'm now looking at a beautifully snappy 1920x1080 Blackbox through VNC. Everything is working great, except audio. I've tried everything from mpg321 to Audacious (which is seg-faulting on startup ) to Amarok (what a beast). mpg321's output is as follows: ALSA lib pcm.c:2162:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_alsa_dsp.so ALSA snd_pcm_open error: No such file or directory Can't find a suitable libao driver. (Is device in use?) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Yes for Cups please. As for the browsers, I guess Ice Weasel (Firefox) would be my preference.
|
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
having both gecko- and webkit-based browsers could be useful at times.
|
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
For me Easy Debian is for doing things that are not yet possible in Maemo 5, i.e. using OpenOffice & the Gimp. So (pdf) printing would definitely fit there, and I prefer Iceweasel. If possible with Flash, Windows media & Silverlight playback enabled. Although I think the last is not yet available for ARM is it?
Maybe a media player, if that is realistic... |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
debernardis: I have the gecko version of epiphany installed, since for some reason, webkit can't do Java.
PDF printing capabilities sounds like a good idea too. But you can already do that from OpenOffice without cups. Is there strong support for printing to something other than PDF? And is there something smaller than cups that will allow apps other than OpenOffice to produce PDF docs? For those asking for Iceweasel: what specifically are you looking for? I'm just curious because I've found the built-in MicroB browser to be superior to Firefox on the N900 for most tasks... I will be including lxmusic, a small music player that uses the xmms2 backend. It works fine. |
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
Please stick with Ice Weasel browser, as you get support for the main Firefox plugins. Support for Ice Dove would be good as well. If LZMA seems to be faster then it's always worth a go! SAMBA support would be very helpful as well as a good FTP client like FileZIlla :)
|
Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing
pdf printing is useful for printing webpages, such as e-tickets or order confirmations.
I would like cups support as well, but mainly for making the N900 more feature-complete, i don't think I'd acually use it. There is an enhancement request for adding print support to M5, the thread lists some reasons users have for wanting it. I believe it's a wontfix. |
