Do i have to copy the file using x terminal? How do i access - /user/share/themes/YOURTHEME/images/ApplicationShorcutApplet.png

Thanks for bearing with me, i'm still very much learning.:o Apologies for clogging up the thread with this noob query.

hehe not a problem...

Backup program will copy all your user settings, in the event of a flash needed, everything goes back to factory settings if you do emmc too (see wiki - flasher)
When you restore it will ask you to re-install all the apps you had before + the settings....

i use winscp to copy the files (Over my home wireless) - that may take alittle bit of learning :D

Cheers for your help monkeyman! I'm sure we'll cross paths again in the future when i need more help with something very simple to someone like yourself. :D

i think you will be ok, winscp - is fine - i am new to linux, and it took me 10 mins to get it working.

I'd suggest before trying new things that you know how to flash your device and restore :D - that way when you really need to do it, you will be comfortable :D

Next stage will be getting to grips with reflashing before attempt anything else i think!

Cheers again, have bookmarked those links so i can come back and review at a later date.

Good luck - theres always people on here to assist if needed, or on irc D:, and if you find any useful guides etc - feel free to post links etc :D

edit - you can use joiku to let your pc use your phones connection wirelessly :D (Battery drain though!)

I like keeping things in order :D

Done few minor UI mods.
- Bookmark shortcuts are logos not screenshots of page
- Application background hidden
- Custom battery icon

Is there a similar tutorial for replacing bookmarks with icons or can you inform me of the process involved please?

All you have to do is swap the PNG images that represent bookmarks with your own custom images. You can find png files in ~/.bookmarks/home-thumbnails

I found the instructions from here

Re: Show off your Maemo 5 screenshots

What i did to get rid of the borders for the desktop shortcuts was:
start x-terminal
type root
cd /user/share/themes/THEMENAME/images/
and then only renamed the file
ApplicationShorcutApplet.png to ApplicationShorcutApplet.png.old with the mv-command
after that rebooted the phone...

Here is this old Maemo 5 video.
I noticed that there is a nice image set in the background, which is similar to that of the newer S60 devices.

Anyway, does anybody happen to have that background image set?

Mine is pretty simple. I need to get some cool widgets.
I keep one homescreen for the most basic functions - useful sometimes.

Preview..
Attachment 8611

Attachment 8612

Attachment 8613

The wallpapers can be placed in mass memory or memory card and selected to be used as the desktop background in desktop edit mode, the lockslider file goes in usr/share/themes/YOUR CURRENT THEME NAME/backgrounds and overwrite, iv included the original lockslider image also.

YOUR CURRENT THEME is the theme you are using.

Download wallpapers HERE

Download lockslider HERE

I have a convention of naming all my computers after Ages in the Myst series, and every once in a while that affects theming as well. I resurrected an old name (previously the name of my first-ever laptop, now long since deceased) for my n900.

Desktop:
http://nwcs.com/~jvc/Screenshot-20100402-130230.png
(Uptime is low because I was experimenting with having ssh-agent available on startup - I seem to have gotten it working by accident and I'm not sure how.)

Slider screen:
http://nwcs.com/~jvc/Screenshot-20100402-130220.png

I only presently use one desktop, although I'm considering getting a second going with common contacts.

How did you put the Simple Brightness App in the 1st position? (where the battery used to be)... I've been trying (unsuccesfully) to do something like that (change the default position of the 2G/3G applet and the brightness apple editing /etc/hildon-desktop/status-menu.plugins.

Afraid not - that's the icon for FBReader, a general ebook reader, which is (IIRC) in maemo extras, so it's fairly easy to find. You could probably use it as a bible reader if you were so inclined, although I haven't really tried myself - mostly because I happen to be Jewish. ;)

There's a standard Bible app up and running, and a maemo specific one in development. Full details here.
