I have installed the first 0.3 version from the garage page. See the first thread on here.
You need to manually install gstreamer tools from the fremantle repo first downloading the .deb file then dpkg install.
it works perfect for me.
If you have any probs I will try and get the .debs and post them on here.

Where (URL) this source code is available?

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Hi

read through the thread, looking for location of config file for the version in extras-devl (0.3-1maemo0). the first post says the file is in /etc/omapcam/cm4397.enc

but no such file exists
/etc/omapcam $ ls
omap3camd.conf tcm8330.enc tcm8341.enc vs6555.enc
/etc/omapcam $

anyone know where i should look or can tell me if one of the above files is the one i need to delete?

cheers

Is anyone else worried that something bad happened to rachol?? He was very active on this thread, making lots of updates to the code daily, then went completely silent on May 2nd. I hope he's ok.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Ok, my resume is - the idea was good but...it didn't receive any further attention from the developer (judging by the repo fie which is still the same and unstable). So, for the idea only - thanks to the developer! For the abandoning it and all the time I spent trying to delete it - less respect.

p.s failurehappening - read the forum a few messages back

I was thinking about the same yesterday. He said, he'll be busy for few days/week. Very strange, that he wasn't here for so long time..

That is the big chance we're taking by installing software from extras-devel. It is an unstable repository, only meant for testing very unstable applications. When you install something from there you should be prepared to crash your device completely. As a developer it is easy to be unlucky enough to create a little bug causing havoc. That's what the repo is for - finding those bugs so they can be avoided in the final application.

I think we should be patient with Rachol, the developer. He's not doing this as his full time job, and something else might take all his attention at the moment. It doesn't even have to be something serious - it could just be that he's run out of spare time for now.

I believe he deserves a lot of respect for what he has done so far and hope he soon returns to finish the great project he has started!

However, I hope he will release the source code for the application too. That would make it easier for more people to help him out fix the bug causing the crash :)

...I guess my remark was one of those..in-a-heat-of-a-moment's, sorry!
Rachol indeed deserves all the respect, no doubt.

Uninstalled it yesterday. Worked fine, but battery issues. Battery-eye confirms double drain in standby mode. Charged at 1 AM, at 9-10 AM I'm down to 68%. Solved after uninstall.

Oh well. Nice idea, worked fine for me, can't keep it.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

I have a problem with mine now. Decided to change my passwords, now it no longer responds to either the new or the old passwords. Cannot config, nor activate. I only changed the activation password too as it contained the word "Activate" and may have looked suspicious to a thief.
Will have to try and force uninstall it and try again. Annoying as it was working up until that point.

As I wrote before, I've got the same issue. The app worked fine, but it was eating my battery very fast.
Some energie-improvements should be done...

I believe development is on stand by.
Where is the source code?

eitama 2010-05-31 11:25

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

If I recall correctly, he didn't publish the source code cause he wanted to keep lots of information hidden, to keep the program actually useful.
I wouldn't give up hope so fast, though It's odd the dude just disappeared for so long, he was very reactive and nice to deal with.

smoothc 2010-05-31 11:49

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

He later said (first post) that the source code would be available, just Data.cpp would be kept closed.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

I think it would be great if someone created a step by step instruction post for iamhere as it is a great application and gives you a great deal of piece of mind!

The reason I would like a step by step instruction which shows what each part of the setup process does is because I installed iamhere a while ago and messed up somehow and my wife kept getting text messages to her phone whenever my battery got low which to say the least annoyed her (i couldnt get back into setup for some reason) and it was finally gone when I installed 1.2

Anyone got any in depth knowledge of iamhere and would like to create the step by step instructions???

Cheers

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

Hi!
Did I understand correct:
Sending the password for activation will send the sms and email?
Sending for deactivate would make the program doing nothing?
The sends are automatically done. when the SIM card was changed, or
do I have to send the activation password?
How can I locate the phone, if the simcard was not changed?
The thief is getting a sms with the password. Maybe he doesn't know,
what that sms means, but he is seeing it.

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

i have read through 13 pages, but still havent really understood what this app can do!

so fari understood that it takes pictures (fron and back) if it is "activated through an sms? what exactly does that mean? i send an sms (with which content? code?) to my n900 it it takes a picture or sends coordinates?

what does it mean when you write "it can read sms?"

i really appreciate the effort, it just would have been nice if there would have been a really detailled description of how to use this app and what it can do!

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

If you send an SMS with a passphrase (or whatever you set the code or sentence to be) it activates the function allowing you to do different things to recover your N900. As for read SMS, I think that means it can read whatever SMS messages are on the device.. not sure though.

ok, thanks and can someone tell me:

1) if the sim card is changed, can it send me the number of the new simcard?

2) what gps data does it send me, can someone give me an example?

That is strange, it doesn't appear like there have been any updates to the package since april. Are you sure it's not because you installed the package which is outside extras-devel and are now prompted to update to the one in extras-devel? The one in extras-devel appears to be broken.

That may have been the case as the one iv have "updated" to, doesnt seem to be working atm, i thought it was just me!

Thanks you!

Re: [Announce] I am here - Request GPS position and more with SMS

the application will not activated if the person took the sim card out before you sent the message in. So there is a flaw! which cannot be by pass.
