Found a bug.
If noone have found it all ready.
Well, albumart thumbnails does not apare in the Albums-list if the name of the album contain letter that is non English. For example the swedish letter ÅÄÖ.

instinctive uses 100% cpu for ~15 Seconds after opening then crashes immediately no matter what i do. Using the latest build (4-august).

Is there a log somewhere that shows reason of the crash?

Sorry if the question is answered before, but I couldn't find it.
Are you updating the versions in the OVI repository? I know you are actively developing the soft, so I don't want to be left behind :)
Thanks a lot!!!

The OVI QA process takes about a week, so newer versions will appear here first. Also, some versions may contain more bugs than fixes so the versions we post here aren't meant more for those brave souls who trust their phones to our pre-release software :)

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Peter, the last version you have posted to this forum thread appears to spend most of its time consuming ~100% CPU. While I understand that it is all about indexing audio data on the devices, this makes both Instinctiv and any other application on the device unusable. Would you please consider changing Instinctiv's indexing habits? Maybe you can simply use the index already made by Tracker and accessible via MAFW, rather than create your own index every time your application starts?

There is such a feature, although it needs Internet access (it basically sends the file to a server where it gets analysed), so it's not entirely "built-in".

chicaman 2010-08-08 20:01

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

besides, the scrolling rate is slow also compared to n97 music player scrolling list.

Well take it a constructive criticism to make the apps better. I like the interface but need quite a lot of touch up for it to be fully usable.

I was wondering, if I have an unknown song on my device, I can't identify it, right? The button simply records, and that stop the player. Any option to actually cut a chunk off an MP3 and send it?

Isn't that how Shazam works? It records a sample and then sends it to the server for identification.

i just hope it doesnt send the whole file... xD

Do you think you could stop posting every time you have a "thought" about the application? It's just that many of us receive email alerts whenever this thread is updated and you have yet to write anything that is either informative or interesting.

Much appreciated.

Yes exactly, but I was just trying to make sure that the person asking the question understood that this wasn't something that the app was doing itself, as such.

I know the CPU usage is horrible the first minute or two post-start. There's a fairly deep architectural flaw that's at the root of this and we're working hard to fix. It'll probably take another week or two :(. The solution, however, will enable us to not only be way faster and consume less memory but also enable a new feature we're really excited about we're internally dubbing "everyware" -- I've already said too much ;)

PS: MAFW integration is high on the list.

Just tested this and it's a great looking app :)

Any chance of getting cover art through cover.jpg files in the same folder as the music file? It's a quasi-standard and is useful for obscure music which can't be found online (not to mention it's a lot faster than online lookups).

LyricWiki is licensed now, so you should be ok to use lyrics from that site. Musicbrainz has started linking across to it, since they're happy with the legality of it:

Be nice to have a lyrics scroller, if it can be implemented.

But, another idea hit me on the head the other day.
With standard CD players it's possible to play a selection of tracks without creating playlists. ie Press the "Program" button -> select a number of tracks -> hit play. As the tracks are played they are dropped from the list (unless you select replay for any particular track).

Playlists are OK, but they're permanent until you spend time editing, adding and removing tracks, which is a bit time consuming in most cases.

Just a thought..... only a thought.

Hey Peter, just want to thank you for taking the time to not only work on this speedily for us but to respond to our every question and suggestion. I check the thread almost twice daily to see if you've already posted an updated version to your last. I am very excited about this player you see, and i want to encourage you to keep doing what you're doing. It's people like you who make having an N900 a much better phone than the version Nokia released....and the same goes to your team as well. If ever you, at some point feel like it's not worth the trouble, esp. when some insensitive ppl come on making demands and post non-constructive criticism, just remember that you have an N900 too and you need this app as much as anyone else does.

Thanks again

Hey, thanks so much for the encouragement -- it's really motivating :) A quick note on our progress: Mihail, who is in charge of the front end, is on vacation next week. I'll be working like crazy over the next 7-10 days on getting cpu/memory consumption down and overall responsiveness up. Hopefully, by the time he comes back I'll have a new back end for him. In other words, it'll be a little quiet on our end for a bit but that's just the clam before the storm ;).

Hi there.

First of all i would like to thank to peter and it's team for such a nice app. I'm really happy with it, even in it current stage, specially the identify feature and the album cover fetcher.

In second, i just want to tell (and i didn´t noticed if somebody told this already) that if you want to use this app in landscape, just it the "shift+ctrl+r" combination and it will rotate to landscape mode, and to revert to portrait just it the combo again. In landscape mode i didnt like how the album cover is so small :\ .

Just my 2 cents and thanks again for this app. I'm willing to pay for a polished version ;)

(sorry for my bad english)

I've been using instinctiv for the past few days and I must say that it's an amazing player and by far the best looking one I've seen for mobile devices.

With a few adjustments (probably already on the way) it will be the become the best player on the n900.

Since the player is still in development I would like to say what I would like in the final version
(would make it my default player)
1. A scrolling bar that shows the letters when browsing the songs, albums or artists.
2. The ability to activate instinctiv shuffle and random shuffle from the now playing screen as with the default player
(would be cool to have)
3. Crossfading
4. Working headphone daemons
5. Ability to edit song info from the player, like the name or album

Anyways, great work hoping to see the next update soon.

How did you get it to work ? I does not work for me, although I set it up to next track instead of pause/play, does it matter ?

I can't get it work ,either

Great to see gapless playback on your bug list :)

IMHO, 3 three often-overlooked things differentiate a good audio player from a great audio player:
1. ability to group albums by 'albumartist' tags, and the option to use these in the artist list
2. gapless playback
3. replaygain support

Hi Peter,

Question - for some reason Instinctiv is not showing all of my music. It sees 225 out of 314 songs (all properly ID3 tagged and all located in the same folder on my device). Any idea why this happens?

Also any update on a built-in equalizer?

Thanks,

We're really focused on the back end overhaul for the next week or so, so no update on the equalizer.

Do your songs not show up in Instinctiv Shuffle, or in the player? If they don't show up anywhere in the player, do you see any pattern? Are the missing files all of the same type (like aac, or wma)? Are they all in the same directory?

Re: Ovi Store - Instinctiv

Hi Peter,

Thanks for such a elegant app, and for keeping us up to date with what is happening with this app.

Would syncing over Wi-fi be possible to implement and something you would consider. I guess this would require pairing with the instinctiv player (which at the moment is only available for Mac OS X).

This feature is apparently available on Zune and Wi-fi Sync was developed for the iPhone/iPod Touch, it never came to the app store but that is only due to Apple.

I don't know if this is outside the scope of the instinctiv app, and might not be very popular unless instictiv player comes to Windows to allow software to pair with.
