@Bun
How'd you get blutooth working? Airplane mode is off, wifi and gprs are working sort of but Bluetooth will not switch on just hangs on turning bluetooth on. Wanna try my Bluetooth GPS out. Cheers |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
This is a great project and dual booting android made my lady go "ooh".
However i've decided to uninstall Nitdroid as it just is too unstable on my handset. Positives: - Has given me a taste of android without purchasing a new handset - Experiencing a good email client - I've now seen the hype about the market place and am not impressed. I'd rather have the extras and extras devel on maemo. - NitDroid works very well. Boot time is fast, browser is good and the contact book looks beautiful. Negatives: - Unstable. Charging is a pain. Sometimes the phones charges and it doesnt at other times. I've had to switch to Maemo just to charge the battery. - Lots of app's still dont work (google maps). Overall its a great experience as a phone geek. Must for everyone to taste it. Thanks for all the work Nitdroid team. |

To run google maps on current nitdroid, you can use BT GPS, thread #4 or apply a patch, thread #49. I have google earth running which I think is more complicate than google map, pics thread #362, only Earth 1.0 works, 1.1 refused to install. Yes, that is one of the 3 apps I tried does not work. I agree with you on most of your other points. Sorry to see you go, come back someday :) BTW, for those need space to load maps, say Mapdroyd, I installed nitdroid on 6G space, and it just worked... so far. and there is ADWlauncher 1.15 released, dl the cm5 version and rename to ADWLauncher.apk and copy into /and/sys/app. Difference? read changelog. very useful links:http://www.androlib.com/android.stat...cher-FEjB.aspx, daily list of android market apps, just saw the title have NOT tried it yet. bun |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
NiTDroid was progressing very slowly until those last updates and it went crazy.
I just had a look at the Change Log, which is now beautifully arranged and easily legible. But I must offer some feedback, Please change where it reads "Vibrator ... Not Available". lols and rollseyes. I think "Vibration" is more suitable and professional. |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
NITDroid is good project, I am able to get a taste on it and the scrolling UI is wonderful, no screen tearing like Maemo, but for flexibility Maemo smoked android away. Nevertheless thanks everyone who helped in creating NITDroid and this has helped us N900 owner to get extra games.
Personally I will be happy to see GPS working in order to use better navigation software compared to those in Maemo. |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
I have tried to format manually but upon launching the auto-installer it still stalls painfully at formatting /dev/mmcb1k1p2
Is there a way to tell the autoinstaller that the SD is already formatted?? Many thanks. |

After you did your partitions manually, reboot, xterm/root, cat /proc/partitions, you should see your partitions correctly, then proceed with nitdroid installer. If not, re-do your partitions till correct. Sometimes, I have to do twice. I have NOT need to do it 3X yet :) bun |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
I am using a 2gb card.
How big does my 1st FAT partition need to be? I think this is my mistake, I was just trying to format the whole thing as a single EXT3 |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
The fat partition has no size limit.
The ext3 must be under 2 gigs =) I did exactly 2047mb, and it installed fine. The rest of the 8gb card I assigned to fat. Same thing worked for installed in internal memory too. Speaking of using the internal memory, does anybody know if it is possible to use swap if it is set up in the internal flash drive? (not mmc, apparently swapping from an mmc partition would reduce the card's lifetime by a very sizeable portion) |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
Yeah I'm not having a win. Have tried a variety of shapes and sizes and it still just sits there on formatting ext3 (same error as reported in page 1 of this thread)
I guess I will just have to wait for the autoinstaller to be updated. |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
I tried with a larger-than-2gb configuration and got this humungous kernel panic when it was supposed to boot for the first time, so I thought the "master's recommendation" (lol) was "uncircumventeable"
In any case 2g is working fine for me, I don't think it would get much faster than it already does cause it's in the eMMC =) |

1st, start from the beginning. Get a SD card you can affort to be erased. Got it? Ok, assume it is the 2G card you are talkin about, Type exactly the following, do me a favor, double check all typing before hitting the enter, as fixing a mistake usually takes more time for the diagnosis and whatnot, bootup maemo take care the repository, enable extras-devel etc... xterm sudo gainroot umount /media/mmc1 sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1 << EOF ,100,C ,,L ,, ,, EOF (wait for it to do partitions... ) ... Re-reading the partition table ... reboot xterm cat /proc/partitions looks like this, ........mmcblk0 ..100 mmcblk0p1 ........mmcblk0p2 ... proceed from Installation on thread#1 good luck, bun |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression and 0.0.8 installation
BRAVO.
After a few installs (...some contacts lost in the way because I'm stupid enough to install without a fresh backup of Maemo...) Nitdroid seems stable (with its issues obviously) in my phone. GREAT. GREAT WORK GUYS. Only the blinking red light-battery empty is a little annoying for me, (prevents for booting Nitdroid, causing a boot-loop), but charging the phone until GREEN LIGHT with main adaptor and then booting Nitroid solves it for a while. I thought Maemo team was formed by ONE programmer. But if THREE brave guys are doing this, the updates for Maemo are developed by a team of ZERO coders. Only waiting for mic to work (phone WITH voice), more stable BME and internal GPS to boot in NITDROID by default. THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS GUYS. If you want Vsync, auto portrait-landscape in desktop, smooth transitions etc, take a look at Nitdroid (Is it soooo hard to code it for Maemo, Nokia? No problem, we have Nitdroid) |
