For example I haven't used the fastsms even once, so it would be nice, if the vkb was independent. Anyway it doesn't bother, if you remove the .desktop file :)

you use fastsms every time you use the vkb...this is the exactly the same program with some graphics elements hidden...nothing more,nothing less ;)
if your problem is the icon you can delete the .desktop file I think, however vkb cant be indipendent from fastsms because fastsms IS the vkb!

You should have add the keyboard support inside the description area of the application.
Also is there a way to add other language dictionary into it? Like what sort of format and file system do you need. I'll help implementing it. I got a Cambodian-cambodian dictionary and it is not thin. It probably more than 100000 words. Would be nice to add it into the text file or something.

Would it be possible that let's say we change the option to disable dictionary mode the settings will still be disabled even if we close and open back fastSMS evo? Well my local dialect is not supported in fastSMS so it's really a hassle disabling dictionary mode everytime. Maybe saving it to gconf?

i found a few bugs i pretty sure u should know em
-it shows passwords
-after restart it takes time to load sometimes load even when windows closed.
-forced rotation works, but how potrait keyboard is presented its random. sometimes take the whole screen, others just half of it.
features that would be nice
-u can't edit backwards, u have to delete a succesion of letter to get u missing.
-copy/paste
i went back to the default maemo for a bit, liking how fast it open even if i have to click a tiny buttom to enable numbers x.x

Can you please provide an button like in android to minimize the keyboard after typing teh required words.. This is better than putting your finger all the way up outside the keyboard window to close it

since a lot of us are pretty cool with the default layout of the vkb, is it possible to make ONLY the T9 appear during portrait rotation but the default vkb appears for landscape mode? cause I kinda like the layout of the default vkb keys (got used to it) in landscape mode. I think a lot are feeling the same too

as far as the idea on a minimize button you can take a look at the picture below and see if my idea can be implant for the next release....

no...i dislike the idea of having only one button for punctuation and you have to consider that also alphanumeric layout must have the minimize button...
A possible idea is place it near text area with another button for smiles layout...

but first I want a feedback from community on what already exists

@ realsportcars...Great work with the keyboard. I have been using (& prefer) this instead to the default vkb.
However, after updating to the latest version, I noticed that when you type a word using the T9, the word you just typed is not shown. The word is still there, but it can only be seen after pressing the left/right arrow keys on the vkb. It seems like the font color changes to white.

I faced too.
anyway do u installed cssu or not,
if yes maybe related to new qt 4.7.2 just guessing, this problem also appeared on file box and open media player.

@realsportscars - the vkb that are in screenshots the last two pages, i love how they look. Is that fastsms? Because mine looks nothing like that at all. They look shiny and fancy, very polished, mine looks like this:

Curiously, what graphical element controls the back tile of each key? I see we can change foreground color but I'd like to modify the background tile.

I am pretty sure it depends on theme. So it should be somewhere there

yeah! button skin comes from installed theme...

the problem of "ghost" word is related to Qt libs, I can't do anything unluckily

richwhite, as you know, the vkb changes in appearance based on your theme. I don't think I've seen it look like that before, without gaps in between the keys... But I'm sure that's a theme difference too.

For instance, if you look at Marina theme button images, they are rounded off, and the edges don't reach the end of the image. That probably explains the gaps we seen between buttons on most themes. I suspect if we opened up the theme richwhite has and looked at it, we'd find that the relevant button icons fill the entire image area, and terminate on the edge in a "dividing line" like you see "between" his buttons. This would also mean that fastsms (and the underlying Qt) tiles the buttons completely touching, and it's just out theme buttons that make it look like there's gaps.

Hey all Russians, are you satisfied with the layout that i have given to realsportcars? if no, b**** now (or you can just write a simple complaint). I am actually thinking that swaping the letter Ж and Ю would be a good idea?? what do you think?
Now @Realsportcars (whenever i am adressing to You, i feel like talking to some kinda robot:), i have realized that there is no alfanum russian keyboard. Though i am not really keen of using T9 thingy. Again that's a question to other slavic ppl out here. And probably this one was already asked before, but... Are you thinking of implementing some sort of qucik change of language? let it be in the same menu button. Supposely i wanna use both russian and english. Rught now i will have to press menu>settings>and change landscape or portrait layout. I hope you follow what i meant...

And another thing: The transitions are a bit strange. Here:
1) when i turn the phone from landscape to portrait(with vkb on of course), the screen flashes, then the portrait(half-screened) vkb shows up and then the full portrait vkb shows up.
2) when going backwards, from portrait to landscape:
the screen flashes shows me the portrait screen without vkb, then shows portrait screen with the shadow, where the portrait vkb supposed to be, then finally shows the full landscape vkb.
I hope i made myself clear, but i am pretty sure you could reproduce it and see it your own.

Besides pointing these bugs out, i really want to thank You one more time!

EDIT:
a liitle bit more. That was a great idea of doing what you have done with "123" button. I mean this "1/2" and "2/2". But what's up with "eou" button? I can push it twice too, but there is no other layout. Maybe disable the second push?

the gaps between each letter is base on the font & font size that you are using on your phone....
try changing your fonts + the size of the fonts then you can see the different.....

Hey,

Loving the new update. Couple of bugs noticed are.

1. The new word QWERTY layout doesn't change depending on the colour selected in options. It stays as the themes default.
   
2. The Accent button. When clicking on it, the letters change to capital Accented letter on the button but nothing else changes. Meaning the Letters on the button are too big for the button itself :P

Now for enhancement thingies :P

1. Could you possibly make the font a little bit smaller and maybe make it bold? Possibly give us control of that so we can choose if we want the font small/big or bold/normal?
   
2. Could you please make the shift button change colour when it is in a different mode. ATM it is just confusing to know what mode you are in. On the iPhone the button is simply highlighted in white when pressed then highlighted in blue when double tapped. Is this possible?
   
3. Could you please lemme know what was the problem implementing the vibration feature, maybe I can try and help :)

Now here is an extremely grateful Thank You for all the hard work you have put in and for making my N900 all the more amazing :)

as far as the disappearance of the letters is concerned, i would like to point out that they disappear only when we are using the alfanum keypad and not the qwerty keyboard in portrait mode. I would not call this a QT bug in this case. it definitely is something else.
if it was a QT bug the behaviour would have definitely been consistent between the portrait qwerty and portrait alfa num keypad.

Okay, I seem to have sorted it.

Your VKB uses FingerButtonNormal*.png to render the keys so they are "cut up" on the keyboard, while the stock hildon VKB uses the InputMethod* images. This means if I change FingerButtonNormal, every image that requires a background for touch input changes as well.

Is it possible for you to align and change to the regular VKB images when you're compiling the plugin?

The alphanum keyboard is the ONLY one that automatically highlights words ect. when typing a message.

This IS a Qt bug. Caused by the new version of Qt which was included in the latest CSSU update. It is really up to Qt themselves to fix this bug so hopefully there will be a workaround until then. Just have to wait and see for the next CSSU update.

This same bug occurs due to something about TextEntry with Qt 4.7.0 and hapens on other apps as well :(

I can suggest to try to reinstall fastsms just because this doesn't happen to me. I think also that this is based on your setting of CSSU features and libs...I can't do anything on transition effect :(

the second layout is accesible via the shift key. "eou" layout works like the shift one: only a press reset the layout after the first key, the second one, hold the layout. Hope you can understand what I mean

thank you for the first point! Can you post a screenshoot of the sencond one?

1-Yes, I can add this as an option
2-the icon is a BIT different based on status...perhaps the "bit" is really too small :)
3-problems are testing (I can't test it in simulator on pc) and manage it in an easy way in code


Like godofwar424 said this IS a Qt bug caused by highlights text: you can double click on a word in qwerty and notice the same problem. some post ago you can also find a message where I put the link to the bug


I don't know if I can or not but sorry I really don't want this. I like the kb takes skin from theme. Consider also that I used Qt to having best portability code so, where I can, I prefer don't link with a specific platform

Here is two screenshots. The first one is the initial view and the second one is the error I showed you. There no difference apart from the Accented letters changing to capitals but nothing actually changes in the layout :P

It is the right behaviour :)
accented first click show the accented layout and return to standard one after your shoot
accented second click hold the layout
btw your font is a bit too much big for the button...I can remove a letters from label :P
