Can you please try to: 1) remove ~/MyDocs/.waze once again 1.1) Make sure you are connected to the internet 2) start waze and select English instead of Deutsch (later you can change it after the first run from the settings menu) 3) log in either with your waze user or skip login (this generates the temporary user/password) The thing is that waze connect to a certain server depending on your location - i know of 3 servers: US, World & Israel. Your waze might have been a little disoriented and registered to the wrong server. The server is chosen according to the GPS location. Have you tried changing the Maemo AGPS server to supl.google.com before running waze? |
Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
Thanks for responding - here is a little report of my progress (I am using supl.google.com already):
Installing with English language selected seems to work better. I was able to reach the point where the lady sais "Let's get started..." and the route shown seems to be correct (I'm at home and not driving, so I can't really tell). Trying to change language settings to Deutsch leads to the same sh... I experienced before. Because waze crashes immediately when starting to download german language files, I even tried to manually copy the files I saved on my computer to .waze/sound/deutsch, but that didn't help. There are 48 sound files in the german directory, I am not sure if that's all I need because they might be generated by an incomplete download. I tried one more reinstall now keeping the language settings to english. Next time driving (tomorrow maybe) I will try to be guided in english language - I will keep you informed. |
Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
Back from the road. The good news is, waze does work now in english language. Well, mostly - it guided me correctly for 90 km and back home with its english voice and crashed only once when I left the route on purpose.
Bad news is, there is no chance to change the language settings to German. The attempt to do so leads to a dumb waze again while the lettering within the program does switch to german. Could there be something wrong in the ./waze/tts directory? I find one file there called voices_was_tts.csv which contains two lines only - maybe there should be more? Anyway, I will leave the voice set to English now as waze does work that way. It is not perfect, but better than nothing. I wonder if users in other countries have similar experiences? Oh, and I should perhaps try to change the language to - let's say French - might that lead to another result? |

a possible workaround would be to remove waze, install an old release, dowload the sounds and upgrade to latest without removing the MyDocs/.waze directory. |

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
Apps for Meego repository doesn't seem to be quite slow, it's been 3 days now since you resubmitted, yet to show up. tracking your app progress via google codes seemed much more reliable. It's crucial get fast update as all the app is still in beta, update is normally more frequent

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
Is this version sending our driving data to waze server ?
I'm asking caus' I try waze yesterday on a 30 km trip but got nothing change in my dashboard on waze.com. Normal or not ? Thanks. |
Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
Hi everyone, yesterday I finally was able to try the new version so here are my impressions:
*First the installation I had one small issue, when I tried to install it, a message appeared that I already had it installed so what I did was uninstall the version that I already had and install the new one, with this everything worked without trouble. *Landscape vs portrait mode: As everyone knows the n9 most of the apps come in portrait mode so I was really happy to see that with this new version was supported so the first thing that I wanted to see is how it worked, so I open the app and the default display comes in landscape and took me a while make it to change to portrait, minor thing but it can be a improvement for the next release. *GUI: It was nice to see some larger icons which are easier to click while you're driving the only but is when you program a route and have two turns one after another the two arrows take much space in the display (in portrait mode) and kind of overlap with the car so it makes a little bit confusing following the road. * Response: On the n9 I think is a little bit slow, you click on any button and it takes some time to respond back and display the object that you pressed. *Overall: I think this is a great improvement from the previous version and I'm very grateful to damagedspline for this port and for the time invested. And I don't know how difficult could be to opensource his work so others can help him and keep improving his development. Hope this helps and once again, thanks for the hard work. |
Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
After 2 weeks of driving with the 0.0.10 version on N900 I think I can summarize my opinion:
- As I said before this version is much stable, faster, and cleaner than the old versions. - Clickable buttons are too small, ETA line and speedometer are too big. - Report screen text is too small (like old versions) and can't be read on driving. - Map is blinking from time to time. I was surprised by the great result especially with the non-exist crash issue, which is the main problem of the android version. Keep it moving. ;) |

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
I've installed the latest 0.0.10 and deleted my MyDocs/.waze directory. The program starts up okay, but it seems to hang at actually calculating a route to anywhere.

Waze users on Android ("official" Waze version) have routing working properly. So, it is not a case of the "server being down" for North American users on N900/N9 versions. |
Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
I've installed 0.0.10 and it works well. Thank you for doing this damagedspline. My only gripe is that the top controls look rather pixellated and impact on the otherwise high quality look of the app. The option to display top bar on tap doesn't work. Nothing major.

It is amazing that any of us can actually edit the Waze map and see our updates within a week or so.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
Uninstalled Waze 0.0.10 and reverted to 0.0.9. The top and bottom bar took up too much space which reduced the map viewing area compared to the old version. Bold font for road names just makes the text unnecessarily bigger. Sorry to say this but the new version is not an improvement to me.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
the top bar not disappear and it take too much space...
Navigation is ok... |

For all the new UI criticizers...
I understand your requests and as such I have done a new UI and made it much more like Waze 3.0:
Requirements: You need the latest release (v0.0.10) - it will not work on previous releases Compatible with both N900 & N9/50 How To: 1) Download MainView.qml 2) Place MainView.qml in /opt/waze/qml (For n00bs: you will need root for that) 3) Run Waze Below you can see a screenshot sample of a navigation. Be aware that I did not fully tested it as I am 150% busy for the time being - so issues may exist. |
Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
I installed the file - gonna test it for a week or so & report.
First Impression: it look much better. I prefer the ETA line to stay fix like u did it before. U give a new life to the old N900. :) |

espacially when you got so much new free space. I saw that in latest android version te ETA line has changed so ETA time is always shown. what I noticed so far: - report button not exist in portrait mode from time to time. - sometimes the app rotate 90/180/270 deegrees. SOLVED: it was CSSU configured to force rotate. - voice disappear from time to time. - map still blinking. - is it possible to separate close&minimize buttons ? I found myself clicking the wrong one - it can be placed in next-street label corners. |
Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
Hi
one another request... The green squares on the left side, it's too hard to see the white text. Can you please change the text color to black ? Thanks |

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950
After a week or so of navigating with the new UI on N900:
It is amazing how the app is stable comparing to android version. Seems that most of the UI issues have been treated. thing that still have to be take care: - App start with small resolution - turning the phone twice (portrait-->landscape) solved it. - Map blinking - not all the app, just the map. - I think fix ETA time is nessecery, but i'm not the only user. I hope U'll have time to deal with it. ;) |
