I have the same problem of visN900 and I dont have any patch. I've even reflash my phone and the problem is still here I use dsp profile or with ideal and it changes itself to 125 the min freq and it became very laggy.
So is there any way to avoid this? If it's swap fragmantation how to correcte this?
Thanks

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Testing

Please check if frequency stays at 125 mhz (or even switch to it) using *other* tool than kernel-config show - for example, using Conky (easy GUI solution).

this is the first time i am using speed/battery patch after he started to update it(was using it before when it was in script like thing) and i think it is the only solution..

Erm, I've asked a question in my last post. Willing to check it and answer, instead of +1'ing?

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Testing

It seems with conky doesn't stay nor even switch to 125
so? why it feels that gets laggy and I chek Its in 125 kernel-conf show and recharging the dsp conf start to flow again like charm.. or almost?

ya.. the conky doesnt even go below 500 when i set my phone's min freq to 500.. but it shows 125 in terminal..

So there is no problem, at least with frequency.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Testing

Okay guys, so I've recently upgraded to kernel power 50 as well as installed the CSSU testing.
The problem im having now is that I've created a custom overclocking profile (as I always have), but everytime I load it, the settings only stay for a minute or so. The cpu settings keep reverting to some default profile, even though I set my custom profile as default.

What could be causing this? What is different now?

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Testing

Hi, I have problems with Cleven, and I believe it's related to KP50, more precisely Cleven trying to load Nokia's kernel module instead KP one (which obviously doesn't work). That's just a guess because the gui seems having no logs separate from some generic failure message. Commandline's airodump-ng works properly. If it's one what I guess, please give instruction which file replace with which one, else please point me to place where I would get help.

I updated to v50 from a much earlier version. The only issue I have is that when I check available internet connections, it does not show them all consistently. Often, it only shows my cell connection.

I am afraid to ask:
batterypatch installed?
If so, please consider correct thread.

Otherwise a bit more info would be nice

how they look like
when exactly does it revert

yes I have batterypatch installed, will removing fix the problem?

EDIT: Thanks, i found the solution in the batterypatch thread

using device @ 1GH is depreciated. 900 mhz is sane maximum and real overclocker (= with brain&experience) will go any higher. BTW, 900 mhz is max frequency, when SR (VDD's) works as it should in all situations.

Enable internet connection
go to menu and then click on nokia kernel
wait for some time
It will do everything for you.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Testing

I have just come back from a trip to Japan where I extensively tested this new kernel with the camera applications
- cameraui
- blessn900
- panorama

The veredict is - extremely unreliable behavior.

I am very much inclined to blame *PANORAMA* for most of my troubles, but at the same time I'm hesitant to put the blame on a camera application written by Nokia...

Here is an ordinary test scenario that I repeated everyday during this trip:
- start by taking photos with cameraui, opening and closing the lens cover several times as I walked through sightseeing
- ocasionally close cameraui, open blessn900, take a few snaps
- go back to cameraui closing blessn900, take some more snaps
- close cameraui, open panorama (waiting forever), take 1 panorama
- ok, close lens, after a while take another panorama
- be angry because panorama either crashes or can't take photos
- kill panorama, restart it, try again

More often than not, panorama would render my device unusable for photography. I would have to reboot just in order to be able to take any photos.

One particular symptom was that the shutter button would no longer shoot, but instead would launch new instances of the cameraui.

With cameraui, I would be able to shoot with the keyboard but for blessn900 for example this was very annoying.

I tried several times using only the stock profile but also tried with a UXV profile up to 805mhz with SmartReflex enabled.
Nothing helped.

Video capturing was very sluggish but I expected this since I wasn't overclocking enough for about 70% of the time. So, working as expected anyways...

During these 10 days, I found that the device would ultimately require a reboot whenever I :
- enabled an overclocked profile that ran undervoltage
- tried blessn900 or panorama (especially with panorama)
- the device would be completely unusable for photography
That's why I tried to stick with the stock profile...*sigh*

I'm stuck with a huntch that this problem must relate to intensive disk I/O, and that whith undervolted overclocking, something starts going wrong and those photo apps that do a lot of temp read/write get somehow f*cked up. This will eventually affect also the cameraui and the shutter button behavior.

Oh, and yes I always made sure only 1 camera app was running at a time.

Don't really know how to proceed from here but I'm so pissed at this malfunction that I'm eager to participate intensively on a testing effort to try and find the culprit. Freemangordon, if you've anything on your mind, drop a line.

Good afternoon to everybody,
from the installation of kernel power I have one problem.

When I connect my N900 to the pc with the usb cable it don't go in selecting area... (mass memory or pc suite mode).

At the moment when I connect the usb cable the device go only in recharging mode...someone have this problem?
there are solution?

Thanks for your help!

Did I make something wrong? I had old kernel installed, and I updated via Application Manager, and just noticed "If you have one of the older packages installed it you need to upgrade in X Terminal" in Maemo Wiki. Is that bad? Should I do something?
Just restarted, and it seems runnig well, but still worrying.

Anyway, over 9000 thanks for the developer, I'm glad to see that N900 is still alive! :D

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras-Testing

@Andrea
nope but fast network transfer (directly between N900 and PC) over USB crashes sytem a hell.
No crashes on storage mode. No crashes over wifi. I can't setup network via bluetooth, so no tests here.

Reproducible crash scenario: prepare network connection between N900 and PC via USB, and class 4 Empty 32GB card.
Now login via ssh port from PC using winscp to N900 and copy 16GB of data with multifolder structure to N900's /media/mmc1.
Always reproducible on KP50 on my side. Doing same via mass storage went fine (so card is good). Never crashed when ssh-ing via wifi.

It seems USB-networking driver is utterly bad. With slow connection (routing via 256KBps bandwith to internet server) it also crashes but somewhat rarer.
I suggest investigating bugs in USB-networking driver and why it maintain to force KP50 to reboot. Remember it's old problem but it seems for me it occurs much more frequent now.

It's not really a matter of undervoltage (fcam-driver apps are CPU-bound unless you have ABC), it's more of a single process consuming gobs and gobs of RAM (29MB in system RAM, 121MB with swap).

As these two apps both need lots of RAM to take the pictures they do (blessn900 multiple exposure+processing and Panorama multiple shots to stitch together), it's quite possible that somewhere along the line, fcam-drivers simply crash.

A possible solution may be to try to optimize your system. Start with a fresh reflash, then move swap to SD, apply the IO anti-contention-under-extreme-loads kernel tuning, disable background applications you don't need (modest comes to mind) and overclock to 900MHz (maximum supported by SmartReflex).

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras

hey Guyz installed kernel power50 twice till now... and had a lot of problems like
1. Overheating (kp49 works without overheating though).
2. Constant reboots while switchin on the phone, (starts after 5-7 reboots).
3. Battery drain is more than compared to kp49.

P.S: Sometimes while installing it replaces stock kernel, even while using multiboot and kp bootimg.

Note:
Have in mind that if you have your own undervolting profile, SR would not make battery life better, at least not much.

Sorry if this has been reported, but there's a regression in kp50 when compared to kp49. in 49 you could use max 950mhz with sr 1&2 and with kp50 you can use max 900 mhz with sr 1&2. It's why I had to update my modified qcpufreq script. If you exceed the vaules, the system crashes.

It's strange. I made the script with kp49 and 950Mhz didn't cause a crash. I tested it (overclocked value by value until crash). Maybe it wasn't supported, but somehow didn't cause a crash ?

Maybe the crash would appear after some long using... But I'm sure it was 950000 as I changed it lately in the updated version for kp50.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras

Hello,

This is my first post in Maemo.org. I like a lot the N900 and I've installed lots of applications and Easy Debian etc, with no problem. But for some reason I can't install the kernel-power v50. I tried to install Linux kernel for power user (settings and overclock) with Hildon Application Manager and via apt-get package but no matter what method I try. The uname -r it says still 2.6.28-omap1. I have rebooted the N900 a few times every times and no luck, the same. The Nokia Kernel icon is in the menu.

I tried to uninstall the kernel power with X-Terminal, and reinstall the kernel power again, nothing.

I have PR1.3.1 I think, version 21.2011.38-1. My N900 is spanish, and I have multiboot installed with NitDroid.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Re: [Announce] kernel-power stable v50 in Extras

Hey, i have a question for you all.

While doing some tests with Thumb kernel, i had some trouble with Powertop as the CPU in idle was too much on C3 state if i compare it without Thumb. I did this check because i had a little loss in battery consumption.

(the following is the short explaination, i can provide a more complete test process and info):
So as i tinker a lot with my N900, i though it is because of something else, so i did a backup and flashed the N900 with PR1.3 emmc and rootfs.
Then installed CSSU, KP50, KP-Settingsv14, batterygraph, rootsh and leafpad (yes, i am unable to understand how vi works)

Then did Powertop and dmesg to see the evolution. Everything was fine until a few hour after the reinstall, i suddenly got a big consumption drain. Confirmed in batterygraph.

So i started powertop and found a lot more interrupt than usual. Also, core, neon and ina2 in powertop result are always 100% ON.
then started DMESG and found out a lot of "procwrap_detach: deprecated dspbridge ioctl.
I also found this kind of error:
Code:

I somehow found out that this is happen while recording/playing movie.
I uninstalled KP50 and KP50-Settings, problem gone!

I also tried with DSP overclock profile.

This is something i tested a lot with different configuration, CSSU or not, DCIM folder on Internal/uSD, swap on internal/uSD/both, KP50/OMAP. And i only got this problem while KP50 installed, no matter the rest of my configuration.

I found a solution, it is to install 720p packages once KP50 is installed. Now i don't have any error.

I am using KP50 since the very beginning and never experienced this error, right is that i had 720p installed since the very beginning too...

I did not find any info about KP50 requiring 720p package to run properly, i checked TMO page and wiki.

So can any of you confirm this?

Thank you
