Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I've noticed a problem with fMMS. It works but not in the background so now I have to manually enter fMMS and download messages. Earlier my N900 did it automatically.
Of course it occurs when I've installed CSSU-thumb I guess because it never happened before.

 Any ideas how to fix this? :(

fMMS works fine here, NFC what your problem is, but I don't think it is related to cssu-thumb

Which network are you in? I'm also in Poland, Play network here, I don't have CSSU Thumb here ("just" CSSU stable) and I have similar problems lately, but I cannot be sure wether it's related to CSSU at all or some recent changes in Play network (I rarely use MMS messages, last time I was normally using them was long before installing CSSU - 1 year ago or so, and I remember having problems last month when I was expecting few MMS messages - I needed to open app manually, same as you wrote). Anyway, I don't think it's thumb-related, either CSSU in general or something on the network side.

I am a noob, I use Thumb.

No problems so far. The goodies of CSSU-T plus the updated MicroB and other fixes.

There's always the possibility for a reflash though.

But that's the sweetness of the N900.

HELLASISGREECE 2012-07-20 04:33

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

In two occassions.

First time, I wanted to completely remove all the garbage I had in (meaning lots of apps/utilities/tweaks etc etc) and make it fresh again so I could start building it more responsibly.

Second time, it was an accident. It just got into a reboot loop (classic). I don't know what caused it... maybe the O/C , maybe the CSSU maybe something else. I couldn't know.

All I knew is that the moment it reached to the Nokia Logo, it rebooted.

Some days ago, when I installed the previous CSSU-Thumb version, I fell into a reboot loop again.

But with freemangordon's guidance, I got the "libgcc_s.so" he provided , put my N900 to RD mode and fixed the issue without reflashing.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

There are a lot of reasons for a reflash. Many things can go wrong when you "tease" your device a lot.

But as long as you keep backup of your stuff, it is a pretty straightforward procedure.

When you reach to the point of no return... ask in the forums. We will provide you written guides.

you are welcome!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

Small question,

I'm right now happily using the power51 kernel, which is including thumb patches as the prep for the CSSU kernel (I think :) ), with the latest u-boot.

If I enable the cssu-thumb repo I'll get the thumb kernel flashed. Will it integrate with u-boot nicely ? Or do I have to re-install u-boot, create the item file for the Thumb kernel and then the usual update bootmenu.scr update?

I guess anyway the value of u-boot will be reduced as I'll be only allowed to boot Maemo with the thumb kernel? Or is the latest power51 also already fully compatible? Is it tested?

Thanks for the effort so far :)

you need a PC.
you need to use maemo flasher, put your N900 to rd mode and then do the fix. replace the libgcc file

Did you check the last pages of this thread for the R&D method / disabling the watchdog? if not, please do so & help yourself with the information available, especially the relevant wiki page(s) mentioned here.

if you have already microb installed by hand, it is normal to have only mp-..thumb and libgcc1 packages updated

Yup, kernel-cssu will replace kernel-power. Don't worry though, simply build u-boot from source (pali's branch of u-boot-shr) in easy-debian, convert a kp51 zImage to uImage (loadaddr 80008000 execaddr 80008000) and use builder.py (found here) to combine them to make Captain Planet combined.bin, which you then flash with
Code:

# softupd --local & flasher -f -k combined.bin --local

Did you enable RD mode thru Windows? I'm pretty sure flasher-3.5 on Windows doesn't properly set RD flag.

If you've really trashed Maemo, go install Nemo or NITDroid or RescueOS, mount the root and replace the file yourself.

make sure you executed the following
Code:

flasher-3.5.exe --set-rd-flags=no-lifeguard-reset
EDIT:

once you get rid of reboot loop, just go to HAM and update, the latest cssu-thumb will copy the missing library for you

when the correct flag is set via flasher, just disconnect the device and boot as usual. then go to hildon-application-manager and update, a new maem5 update should appear. it will install the newer version of the library, you won't need to copy anything by hand.

Thanks man. I'm using T-mobile network but now I'm sure it's not related to the new CSSU.

Confirm.
I have similar problems with fMMs.
Can send, but receiving does not work, Get no notification, have to open and even can not download manually (VF, Germany).

But surely unrelated to CSSU, Thumb, KP as I just booted with stock kernel and the same. So lets move to fMMS thread.

you enable rd-mode, you dissconect the N900 from your PC. Boot the N900, open xterminal, become root, open midnight commander from xterminal (or whetever file explorer you use) go to /lib and you replace the libgcc file you find there with the one you have.

then reconnect your device to maemo-flasher and disable rd-mode

the problem with TLS and https://google.com seems to be caused by the toolchain. zeq is testing gcc 4.6-linaro toolchain, once there is a fixed version, I will make a new update. For now use the workaround.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] CSSU-thumb thread - stable Thumb2 on N900

I have installed CSSU-thumb to my spare device about three days ago (which has broken internal flash - so everything are on SD card except root partition) and a day later to the device I use every day.

So far so good, both devices work well since that - no crashes or other problems found yet.
I think they're a bit faster - however, having a swap partition both on internal flash and SD card also provides better performance -, so I think speed improvement is greater in the phone that only has a Class 6 SD card without internal flash - it is also really responsive. :)

One of my friends complains a lot of his N900 (I hope it does not have hardware issues) with CSSU installed.
He says he has to reboot his device daily, so I'm curious what happen with stability after an upgrade to CSSU-thumb - he use his phone a lot. I'm going to install this update on his phone once we find enough time to do this and share results.

So, thank you and keep up your good work, I like the results. :)

I installed gthumb2 on my N900 and had to reflash it: battery drained REALLY FAST.

I use it just as a tablet and normally it can go for days but with gthumb2 it barely made through a single day...
