Just wonder how much time developers will use when for porting old libs and unusable UI, instead of just redo the app(s) for nemo/sailfish ui instead?....... |

It would be nice if Sleeper is exported to Sailfish. It's the timer app on the N9 that automatically turns off the music player. I use it daily.

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=710584 So once that bug is fixed GTK can be built on Sailfish. I'm not sure if the Sailfish compositor allows it to run though. But if it does I guess that GTK3 apps will at least run on Sailfish. GTK2 needs xwayland to run and that is another story ... |

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
Ok, I made a comment. But still, will be interesting to see if GTK works in Sailfish. Last time I tried not even raw QML worked. I was forced to use Silicas ApplicationWindow to get the app to run. This is the first time I'm using native Wayland so I'm not sure how windows works ... or if it's even called windows in Wayland. If GTK somehow can bypass the whole Sailfish UX? Anyway, if GTK works in Sailfish there will be some more apps that do not exist on other mobile systems and that must be a good thing. :)
Edit: And MartinK seems to have started to build the gtk stack here: http://repo.merproject.org/obs/home:...est_i586/i586/ But a few packages that already exist in Sailfish (glib, cairo, pango, fontconfig) will need to be upgraded to make gtk work. |

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
Just want to give my hints, can't find any other place and hope Jolla will read here.
Want to have a replacement for my old Nokia E61i, so my better choice is to have the same app/feature I can find there - calendar with integrated appointments and tasks - notes with the ability of sort by creation date and extract phone numbers - from the phone side a good conf call and speakerphone, really useful for business usage - generic SIP client - gps and maps (I've TomTom installed, but any with turn by turn navigation will be ok) - the "home" screen need to be able to display today activities such as appointments or tasks - morning alarm that can work also with shutdown mobile - ability to easy turn on and off connections such as wifi - contacts with many contacts details and the ability to import from Nokia format - integrated messaging for SMS/email from many different mailboxes, such as exchange, IMAP, POP3 - VoIP such as Skype, GTalk, Whatsapp E series was perfect for business usage, never find a replacement apart from BB but after testing q10 I finished using my old Nokia. |
Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
Wow...you do bring up some dinosaur phones....E61i.....

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
According to what was already known but reemphasized in latest article on Jollausers about (1) status bar and (2) 9 covers max, I really hope three things will come up from the community:
1. A Glance-like feature, i.e., LPM-ish screen for LCD (probably only part of the screen lit, and probably at very low intensity to save battery). JollaHQ confirmed that LPM-ish is possible on LCD screens, but I'd say they won't do it themselves. With a kind-of-LPS, it would be easy to keep track on clock, battery and missed events without having to touch the device. That won't replace a status bar, but it can be really helpful when driving/biking/running/being in a meeting (I hate having to touch my device to check such info when in a meeting, everybody would think I'm checking social accounts or that I need to check clock because the meeting is boring; without touch needed, you just look at the phone on the table). # Might not be doable or relevant energy-wise if whole screen has to be lit, which is basically the case with LCD; don't know if a workaround could be imagined. Using proximity sensor to disable the display could save a significant amount of power though. 2. A way to rearrange/reorder running apps when in the "close list" view. This list already appears after a long-press on the multitask screen by default and show apps running, not only the 9 covers if I understand correctly. However, this screen doesn't allow rearranging those apps yet. Allowing rearrange/reorder would allow seeing all running apps at the same place (not just 9 on a view and the rest on another view) and deciding which ones are going to be displayed when back on the multitask view, even if some came to foreground because they were used/updated more recently. Some apps will have covers less interactive/useful than others too, so a way to lock the 9 covers displayed would be cool. And a way to directly maximize an app from the "close list". That way it would act as an Alt+Tab with less info than covers, but exhaustive, and default Sailfish behavior would be kept because you'd have to longpress to show that list. Horizontal swipes on the multitask view (9 apps/9 apps/9 apps/and so on/and you Jolla explodes at this point) would be perfect to be honest, but it seems more difficult to do and may conflict with other Sailfish gestures. Prev/Next buttons or scrollbars are alternatives too. I just add the "close list"-rearranging idea because a sailor said this could be imagined for a future update (could, no promises), so I guess it's technically doable. 3. A way to force new instance of an app. The 9-cover-system constrains apps to a single instance, except those that, in their pulley menu, have an option "new instance" like the Terminal probably. However, multiple instances of SMS or videos or file manager or emails (emails can be very useful in two instances actually) can be VERY useful. Could we imagine a special gesture to do on an app icon to force it starting up in a new instance instead of restoring the session that was already running? Could we take advantage of multipoint, like with a finger touching a corner of the screen while the other taps the icon? |

On the other hand, I guess we'll have to wait for custom Other Halves with wireless charging before the "set it down on the desk, it's charging and automatically goes into an LCD equivalent of LPM" becomes smooth. |
Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
Apparently Sailfish does not support contact or other data migration from old phones (except through some cloud based services): https://twitter.com/JollaHQ/status/403456505149542400
So I would like to see an application for dealing with imported .vcf files etc. so that I could transfer my contacts from N9. And something to deal with imported SMS messages etc. |
Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
I would like simple audio messages to be part of messaging. As far as I can tell the N9 doesn't have a way to do that natively like symbian phones from Nokia did.

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
I would like an app that change and replace swipes. Like if I swipe from left to right I get my favorite stock quotes updated, or my soccer result or an image of my girlfriend or what ever app I preselect.

I don't know if this was mentioned before but having separate user accounts so you can have a "guest mode" when lending out your phone or letting your child use it to play games would be nice to have.

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
You can cross out Medard - I wrote a new app from scratch, taking advantage of Sailfish goodies like Pulley menus and Covers.
I will upload it to the store as soon as the SDK issues get resolved (like app naming scheme). |

Re: What Applications would you like to see on Sailfish Devices?
the one and only: Subsonic client
I coded one for n900 that was never fully finished. Look into porting it, it was actually building on Sailfish OS, removed the phonon stuff and fixed some other qt5 changes. It started, but looked like crap using the qt standard theming, would need to code most parts in QML instead and use the Silica components. My subsonic support classes that did the main communication worked right off! It requested and received the album and song data perfectly. Would anyone else like having a Subsonic client? I'd love having help with someone that it more experienced with QML than me. |

Unfortunately the emulator doesn't support sound, so I probably won't be doing any more on it until my device shows up. |
