ArchiMark: You're going to have to enable (remove the #) the "lenny" repository in /etc/apt/sources.list and try again. There may be some fallout when you begin upgrading such fundamental components.

Could those having problems with synaptic please open a terminal and type
Code:

sudo debian synaptic
and post the output here?

OK, thanks....

Here's what I get, doing this from LXDE Terminal:

Code:

$ sudo debian synaptic
sudo: debian: command not found

UPDATE

I found that I can get Synaptic to open if I do the following in LXDE terminal:

Code:

$ sudo ./usr/sbin/synaptic
Thanks!

I also found that in v3d I cannot start synaptic from the LXDE menu. It does however start when launched from its (Maemo) application icon.

Warning: Possible Silly Question....

OK, just wondering....if I see an app that's available for Debian on x86 PC's, how difficult/much work is it for a developer if I ask them to provide (recompile?..) a version that would run on our lil' N900??

Would like to know how silly or not this question is before I pose it to some developers of some commercial apps that do have linux versions.....

Thanks,

Mark

Virtually all applications in the Debian distribution come precompiled for the armel architecture. If for some reason they aren't, like wine, chances are that it is not possible at all to just recompile for armel.

Thanks for your input, rebhana....understand your point...

However, I'm thinking of some commercial apps that are not included in Debian distribution....

For example, ThinkingRock http://www.trgtd.com.au, the GTD app is available for linux, but it's a non-free app.

Although, there is a light version, that is free...

Quote:

ThinkingRock - Platform requirements

Thinking Rock is a pure Java application and should run on any platform with a correct Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

For Mac and Linux you will need JRE version 1.5.0 or later. For MS Windows you will need JRE version 1.6.0 or later.

For Mac you will also need Mac OS 10.4 or later.

TR has been tested on Linux (Fedora 4), Mac OS X (10.5.5), Windows (XP) and Windows Vista.

ArchiMark: Java apps should run in Easy Debian; try

Code:

java -jar appname.jar
EDIT: It looks like the TR is open source...

Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

Hi, sorry if it sounds like noob questions, but i can't seem to install the image file,
I have a bad internet connection so i DL it via PC and move it to main folder (N900)
Now when i run the debtimage install, it always asks for internet connection and trying to download the image again..

And this causing duplicate images in the main folder..

Did i move the image in the right folder?

Edit : So if i extract the image manually in the pC, where should i put them? in the main folder as well?

It is impossible to get "duplicate images" so maybe you're downloading the wrong image. Make sure you're grabbing this one:

debian-m5-v3d.img.ext2.lzma

(EDIT: You can unzip it on your computer with 7zip)
