I have been browsing a lot of posts but did not found any.

Why does my N900 keeps asking me if I want to use network to retrieve sattelite when opening Sygic. Is that not possible to avoid?
Sorry if did`nt noticed where to remove this alert.

Thanks

It keep asking because you have "network positioning" ticked ON. If you don't want it to keep asking you, turn it off via setting>location.

I puchases the US maps last week and the app seems to be working great for me.

My one question though is can you purchase additional maps and install them in the application?

I occasionally travel outside of the US so it would be nice to have access to Canadian and UK maps from time to time...

Yes you can. If you have multiple maps, you will be asked when you open the program to select which map to use.

Sygic crashes when trying to switch the keyboard layout on a hardware keyboard by pressing ctrl + space.
At the same time talking on the phone voice instructions suppress the voice of the interlocutor

hi mate you need to go to settings, location, then make sure network positioning is ticked on the n900. To be honest though once you have said yes on sygic it should change the setting for you and keep it enabled then shouldnt ask again. But if you dont want to use agps then i suppose you will have to put up with it.

Hi,

I have tried to use Sygic with and without network positioning. Sometimes it works like in 5 secs to get GPS signal when network positioning is turned on. If I am offline ( no wireless/internet network ) it asks me if I want to get online a couple of times.

If network positioning is turned off It takes much much longer for me to get the GPS signal and it pops up asking me if I want to connect the whole time before I have the GPS signal.

I thought that this statement from Sygic was similar to not agps/internet connection needed:

''With pre-installed maps, it is always with you on your phone, without other hidden costs or data plans, with no additional subscription fee for maps'' but maybe I don`t understand it fully ;)

I guess that others explore the same things?

Rgds

My normal route home (Suffolk) tonight was was blocked up by bad traffic near Ipswich, so I fired up the Sygic and selected an alternative route and ended up on a magcal mystery tour. Even though I have the quickest route option checked in the settings menu it diverted me onto an hour and a half diversion and I had to select an alternative route a couple more times to get the ETA time down. Then towards the end when I was fairly near home and I got myself back onto track by getting onto a main road that passes right by my place, it then kept trying to divert me away from the most direct route by attempting to send me down country lanes going in a completely different direction.

Also last night in North London I had to travel south to Guildford and again it took me on a strange route, in the end I stopped and got my old N95 out of the boot and used the Garmin XT installed on it as I could not afford to be late to my destination.

I'll keep trying it out for now, and if tonights journey is anything to go by at least I'll get to see some new places!

Hi torsen,

can please provide exact starting address and destination address? Feel free to send it as private message or email to support@sygic.com.

Thank you for contributing to Mobile Maps.

Kind regards,
Sygic Support.

Excellent, the only downside of that is the 40EUR + 60EUR required to do that, oh well I think I will wait and hope for Nokia to deliver on Ovi Maps on the N900.

One other question on Sygic though, I find that it takes Sygic a lot longer to get a GPS lock than both Maemo Maps and Ovi Maps on the N900 - it looks like it uses the GPS a little differently...

On both Maemo Maps and Ovi maps I notice that my GPS status first gets a coarse accuracy from the AGPS network connection which then lets the map app get an approx location. Then it narrows in and goes to fine accuracy and the map application narrows in on my specific location.

Now when I use Sygic, the GPS status just shows searching for 30seconds to a minute before it finds my location and zooms in on the phone. If I am inside a building however it can take longer which is frustrating. I have AGPS turned on and it is set to supl.google.com which I find to be very fast, but it does not seem to use the coarse accuracy from the Cell tower location.

Is anyone else seeing this or is there a setting in sygic itself that I am missing here? Is there a way to make Sygic start with coarse accuracy for a GPS fix?

I'm guessing sygic maps asks the Location subsystem for AGNSS fix, which doesn't give network positioning, only (a)gps. I tried setting, on n900, settings - internet connection to always ask, and settings - location I disabled network positioning. I got no prompts asking to connect to internet, but I did get one asking wheter to enable network positioning, which I rejected.

I'm using the North American version. While the Sygic is a very well made gps program and its overall use is close to exceptional, I find the lack of POI especially near big cities such as New York or Los Angeles to be very discouraging. I'm comparing it probably too much with google maps that I've used extensively prior to N900.

Do I need to add additional POI's or was the installation not completed somehow?
Here's the information based on:
I'm trying to locate a Borders store nearby:
Touch Map - Navigate to... - Point of Interest - Near my position - Show All - Any - POI: "Borders" // and the result is "Sorry, there is no Any in this area."
