Re: Sponsoring participants to the Maemo Summit

I thought this might be of interest, and so would share.

The best index I know for budget EU and Northern African flights is;

http://www.euroflights.info/netherlands/amsterdam/

Which gives a list of budget airlines flying into or near Amsterdam. But on occassion is out of date.

For budget airlines there are two airports near Amsterdam: Being Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (10 km to the south west of Amsterdam) and Rotterdam Airport (56 km to the south west of Amsterdam) .

Personally I find the wikipedia pages for airports a good, reliable and simple route to the airlines websites of possible interest.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Airport_Schiphol
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotterdam_Airport

(I'll copy this over to the wiki later.)

Personally I'm tempted to train and ferry my way over.

On a side note -- I'm not going for sponsorship -- as I don't feel I earnt my sponsorship last year, oh and that I hate speaking, but I would be interested in a poster presentation in the break area...are there any plans for poster displays?

(Actually if Nokia really wanted to splash out -- we could have multimedia projector displays, with ultrasonic directional sound funnels...so you only hear the presentation when stood on the relevant spot.)

Re: Sponsoring participants to the Maemo Summit

In the spirit of openness (and whilst some issues with the midgard system get resolved), I've published the council's internal deliberations on the matter (with comments from applyees and council members removed).

Some notes to bear in mind:
  1. No Nokians: We've been told that we should decline anyone who is employed by Nokia, as there is a separate process for them. Even if this reduces the non-Nokian budget, I think this avoids any accusations of Nokia wasting "our" budget (even though it's all Nokia's budget, and many Nokians are just as much as part of the community, if not more so)
  2. Incomplete: Not everyone has been decided upon yet.
  3. First-time publishing: No-one has received any direct communication yet.
  4. Fallibility: If you have an "N" against your name and feel very strongly that we've made a mistake, please email the council.

The "Vote Result" and "Majority" fields are a bit confusing to me, can you explain them better ? ;)

/me needs to sleep :)

Vote Result: yes or no based on every council member having a say.

Majority: yes or no based on whether there's a majority already.

We realised that a majority was sufficient a) we're all busy and b) there's enough consensus that no-one's going to be particualrly pushing for or against a particular person.

So the "majority" column is the one to look at. If/when I republish it, I'll remove the "vote result" column and/or rename them.

@Jaffa: looks like I'm coming :) ?!?
How does it work for the flight? Do I have to book it by myself or do you think you can have a better discount than the price I would normally pay it?

Unless you can find a really good deal on your own, Nokia handles the flights. Their travel agency contacts you.

I've given a look to the Transavia flights: if I land on 8 and leave on 11 I spend about 230€ but my flight leave in the morning, so I'll miss the whole sunday at Summit :(

if Nokia can find another flight that leave later I could at least be present in the morning.

I've already booked, which will hopefully be ok (it's certainly cheap anyway).

I'm flying in on the Thursday late evening and out on Monday evening (same problem as you Andy, the Sunday flight was first thing). C'est la vie.

In terms of costs (and this should probably go in another thread) they are ~£36 outbound (Luton -> Amsterdam) and ~euro 55 return (Amsterdam -> Bristol).

Okay great! :) My sponsorship has been accepted.
I'll book the flight tonight for me and my girlfriend, last time we checked was around 60-70£ (per person), not bad.

How does it work for the hotel room?
