And just to be clear, the sailfishos website now reports:

Remove the old Alpha then get started with the SDK.
(although, looking at the file name, it's another alpha release)

Re: Sailfish SDK Alpha released

I can say there ARE issues with porting from Qt4.8 => 5.0 (more than I had realized first) but this is not Jollas or even Digia's fault the changes had to be done.

So I am very happy that jolla did go this route now instead of later. That would hurt alot if developers had to rewrite jolla apps second time after release. Better do it now.

One of the thing is some of the QtMobility API has been merged/changed in Qt5. But in thje long run I think thats a good idea that make less fragmentation and true multiplatform. Android, BB, Jolla, LinuxTablets etc...

I recomend people check this:

https://sailfishos.org/wiki/Porting/Harmattan

and ofcourse Qt site.

There is alot of new goodies in Qt5 and some changes that break backcompability. In my case I did have issues with QUrl some of the API:s was removed.

From that page it looks like SDL 2.0 will be packaged in Sailfish by default - that's great. Though having 1.2 can be still useful for something like ScummVM which is not ported to 2.0 yet.

Just read that Sailfish will use

Quote:

SuSE-based ".rpm"
zypper Package manager
No security manifest
instead of

Quote:

Debian-based ".deb"
apt Package manager
Security manifest: Aegis
on https://sailfishos.org/wiki/Porting/Harmattan

That was new to me...no .deb and apt-get? Oh come one!
