Re: Android apps on Jolla

1. enable developer mode
2. drop to terminal
3. type in devel-su and enter your password that you configured in #1
4. then type "systemctrl restart aliendalvik.service"

Is it possible to "root" alien-dalvik? I would like to use Adblock etc, which isn't possible on non-rooted Android device.

if you can access /etc/hosts file , you can do what adblock does :)

Thanks, but one little mistake in the word "systemctrl", should be systemctl ;)

Re: Android apps on Jolla

contacts are not usable by most of my android apps. i got a reply from jolla that apps have read only access to contacts. so syncing also won't work (e.g. if i initiate contacts sync using whatsapp). however, i don't know how com.android.provider.contacts is initialized (or when) in the vm.

when i drop to terminal and look in the provider's databases, i see contacts from most of my IM providers (skype, lync) inside the database.

does anyone have any idea how to force initialization of this by bridging the gap from the sailfish database? i could copy the sailfish database and use sqlite to populate the android database but that's a real pain as i need to figure out the schema (which might change with each sailfish OS update).

dalvik's hosts file is located in
Code:

/opt/alien/system/etc/hosts
You may also need to replace
Code:

/system/etc/hosts

How reverse-engineerable is Alien Dalvik, now that it is in the wild, for use on other Maemo/Meego systems?
Failing that is there anything stopping the wrapped executable blobs created by Alien Dalvik(I seem to remember that being how it worked) on non-Sailfish systems?

When you choose to send your picture and are presented with whatsapps galkery view you can choose to use another gallery manager by using the menu to the upoer right. I choose "media manager" which is installed when you install Camera MX. In that gallery you have the option to update.
