I haven't been looking forward to weekends since I pre-ordered my N900 .. Two days that we have to suffer through with no progress in preparing our shipments :)

Well finally got a usable response from the local distributor... Apparently Slovenia won't be getting until January 2010 :'(

WHY!!!!!!

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

@ruskie - I was told the same thing at a retailer here in Germany yesterday. He called three suppliers and all said the same. It seems only pre-orders will be available before 2010. Lamn!!!!!

Didn't early word from Nokia say that Germany and Italy where first to get the phone...? Maybe the omitted end of the sentence was... "for retail sales in early 2010.

Was going to ask MPD for an update but it would appear they've turned their live chat off. Cant say that I blame them. I bet they've been asked already about 499 times today :)

Well considering this distributor is also nokia.si as far as I can gather I was hoping they would get it sooner rather than later. :(

Don't think Nokia would wait till january with shipping the n900 to other retailers. That would be a present for htc and other companies. makes no sence at all

I just spoken with Nokia (UK) ... The adviser I spoke with sounded very very depressed (Like he's been telling people the release date for the N900 all morning) He they advised me that it will be some time next week that I'd receive my N900 he didn't give a specific date

Seems like Nokia did not expedite deliveries to their sell-in customers and have shipped standard air- bulk delivery.

They probably saved $50,000- though pi$$ed off a lot more than that number. UPDATE: Who am I kidding, I would have done the same thing :)

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

I just went to the flagship store in London and I was a little underhwlemed. Everything was snappy and just as i have seen it on countless YouTube clips... but... I remembered that it was just smartphone/mobile computer.

Not the messianic entity I have built it up to be in my head (or heart).

- The menu key doubling up as the open application viewer/switcher didn't feel natural and wasn't as intuitive as I had expected.
- In camera mode, I couldn't see an obvious (intuitive) way to switch it to video rec mode.

The above are specific examples, what I am getting at is the feel. Overall it didn't capture me as much as I had expected, the Symbian "iconography" doesn't help either.

I am concerned. As a mobile phone enthusiast that isn't a Linux developer or previous Maemo user, to me it's clear that much will depend on the level of adoption by developers, apps and companies looking to take advantage of the mobile space such as they have done with iPhone to enhance my experience.

Is this a smartphone cum NIT just for geeks??? (geeks in a nice, non-derogatory way)

I hope I am completely wrong and that my concerns are mere negativity born out of expectation that were out of sync with reality.

There were many positives by the way

- Keyboard was provided good feedback and puts the n97 to shame.
- The web browser is the best I have ever seen on a mobile device. It blows everything out the water and it will only get better. Excellent.
- Fast response times.
- The four screen desktop is a joy and make a lot of sense
- Hardware felt as solid as a Volvo. Very reassuring.

I only had it for 15 minutes so hopefully when mine hopefully arrives next week and the maemo 5 world matures I'll begin to love my N900

Your impression will probably mirror many other smarphoners who try to migrate to the N900. The stars are aligned for this device, so could sell a lot more if was designed without causing these impressions, but as many here will say: "It is a computer first". Very fair statement, but not good for first impressions for smartphone users, nor helping to maximize returns of the device.

I am banking on apps and updates to improve things for phone use, but am mainly getting mine for media, web function and Quake 3 type gaming action :)

I will follow the chat with interest, to see how Nokia Sweden handles the situation, but I can't see that there will be any different news regarding the launch of the N900 in Sweden. I have not sent in any questions myself.
If there is a positive change, then all the better. But I have no hope that things will change. All disappointed customers, who want the choice themselves, IMO in the spirit of Linux, have been met with a stone wall as I've posted earlier.

We enthusiasts are, and have been from the beginning, the core target group for the N900, and the bug doesn't bother (most of) us @ minhembio.com the slightest, even if some of us use 3.

I sent a supportive message earlier today to the poor souls at Nokia Care who is suffering/will suffer the full onslaught of the disappointment the decision by the management at Nokia Sweden has caused.

Hmm, mobilephonesdirect site a few days now redirects to http://www.nokiaretail.co.uk for N900.

However, now it says "Delivery during late November". Anyone any clues (given the fact that they were saying 500 pre-orders with 1000 units expected)?

Re: OPK: N900 deliveries have now started!!

Nothing new in the chat on mobil.se regarding the launch of N900 in Sweden. The decision to delay the N900 in Sweden stands.

Quote:

Good vid. Now all we need is one of actual consumers with the actual phone. Its getting pretty damn old watching Nokia tell us how awesome the thing is and we STILL don't have it - or even a release date.

Anyone else but me think the whole ship date news release was pretty much the biggest waste of time/bait and switch ever?

Lol - well we have all been winging about no news for so long, any news should be better then none :)

I'm quite happy with it, it's not like it is a year late. Quite happy to sit and wait a few weeks, get my new phone and try it out. It will definitley become more real when someone posts the infamous "I have my new N900 in my hand now" post :)

Don't these large shipments have tracking numbers just like a regular consumer item being shipped? The ETA on that would be more relevant I would think. Oh well.

Only the biggest waste of time since the last Nokia ship date news release. They're all like that which makes it even worse - it's not that Nokia is screwing up the N900 it's simply handling the release like it handles every product. The problem is that Nokia is systematically unable to release products to consumers properly.
