Why is Epitaph being allowed to promote his 'app' here on TMO, considering that he's clearly breaking the terms of the GPL?

Just one example (of many): Contained in the 'app' is the Bash binary. The GPL states that if you are going to redistribute GPL code, you must make the source of your app available.

He was hosting the app on Sourceforge, but it was removed from there - possibly due to me reporting it.

He has repeatedly refused to make the source available.

I'd like to know why maemo.org allows his thread and his signature here? By not taking any action, they appear to be condoning it.

I'm personally interested in this as it seems to go against FOSS principles, and as someone who has contributed time and effort to the open-souce world it makes me angry he gets away with it.

Thanks for listening.

Heh, I think we should create a short list of unanswered questions.

The post from jaffa and the un-answered questions list request should be enough evidence that the council are not doing quite enough to satisfy the members of this community and i request they at least look at this seriously.

Am i allowed to say they are failing in there duty as it should be for this community or not?.

Can the council be more objective and forthcoming in some answers please?.

Can abill_uk be banned for a longer period of time? Whoever is allowing him back is letting him trample on the rest of us by dint of being willing to outtalk anyone. To me, he is a far worse problem than Orange_Box ever was.

You're entitled to your opinion, however misguided it may be.

And the council is and always has been as objective (and tolerant) as a body of humans can possibly be. We've developed tough skins; I recommend them for everyone.

This thread isn't the place for that appeal (EDIT: then again, maybe it is).

I'm not going to argue your actual points.

For what reasons have you as you said "developed tough skins" ?.

Maybe the current council is facing problems because of Nokia that none of the previous had to face?.

The response to both statements is "due to excessive TMO noise".

But there again we have a situation happening with Nokia that has never been the case before and people are very pissed with them so hence the "noise" levels have grown all round on TMO.

More the reason for the council to adopt a more friendly approach to its members and share with everyone the actual problems instead of having to "hide away".

You know the old saying... a problem shared is a problem halfed etc etc.;)

Before I go any further,,, who is the other of this "two"?

Check my post content out thoroughly before responding. You might want to edit that... and think more before posting that sort of thing in the future.

I have got to say though in respect to the council that they could not have been council members at a more troubled time.

Sorry for the confusion, you are one fast poster. :)

Was referring to mister(OMG I TYPE IN COLORS)c and the almighty abill_(NONSENSE)uk.

For the record, the stuff in the brackets are their superhero names and a hint to their powers.

I think you will find texrat was reffering to the content and your wording and in my book you deserve infraction points for that post and many prior to that so you had better hope that a pissed off moderator does not go through your history !.

Can i also point out that, as many of your posts, that one was not only off topic but is actually attacking members of this community !.

Please do something about this daneel, this is a very important thread and should be strictly on topic.

Yes, i agree, why don't you just leave so the real people who actually do anything for this community can discuss about the future and whatnot while WE freeloaders do whatever we do here.

Do i need to remind you that you refused to help out a CSSU developer with a simple WIKI?
If you have some strange urge to be the center of attention go enter a yelling contest with a donkey, its pretty much the same with what you do here.

Thank you for reading.

I don't know where is a more appropriate place to post about this. Suggestions are welcome.

I don't understand the value of disciplining people is when the reasoning behind doing so is basically secret. How is that supposed to deter others? As Chemist once seemed to indicate, the underlying message seems to be that you should cosy up to the moderators or they might punish you. The moderators seem to have decided to basically tolerate abill_uk no matter what the provocation.

And for the record, I have no personal dislike of abill_uk whatsoever. I just think he makes communication too difficult and isn't worth the extreme toleration he has been shown.

I don't agree with every policy or practice here, but then, I'm just a very minor moderator. And there is no unilateral agreement on tolerance; you probably have no idea how often I've gritted my teeth over some moderation inaction-- and I tend to be pretty tolerant.

I have a lot of thoughts on this subject but this is one of those cases where most of them ARE better left private.

maybe you could suggest to Reggie to check on IP address instead of e-mail addresses for duplicate IDs?

You could not be further from the truth if you tried ! , interesting comment that one but for what reason is unclear.

Geneven states "I have no personal dislike of abill_uk whatsoever" and if that is the case what is the reason for all the noise he is making on TMO ?.

Members should be concentrating on the future of TMO rather than making needless comments about other members, THIS is what is getting people pissed.

If you feel the need to rant then may i suggest the perfect thread for that as in the COmmunity rant thread and leave this thread for it's intended purpose = the future of TMO. :)

The title of this thread is Ask the Council! The intent of the title appears to be to provide a place where people can Ask the Council.

The reason for all my noise is that I think you should be given the old heave-ho because of your constant infractions. I wish you well and don't dislike you. I think you interfere with communication on this site. I am typically opposed to banning people, but you are the exception who proves the rule. I was opposed to banning Orange_Box the infamous, for example.

You have a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde personality split, I have concluded, so at the moment you are relatively benign, but I have seen from repeated experience you can quickly become intolerable. I don't think this site should continue to put up with you. You yourself have essentially said that this is a lousy site and you know better ones. You should go to them.

I mention this issue to the Council because I don't know who else it is appropriate to contact about this. If Abill_uk continues here, it doesn't cause me a particular problem -- it causes all of us a problem.

It's simple. He is separating problematic behavior from the person in general. Something adults do.

I know you mentioned it was happening "soon" or even (at one point) "we're meeting with Nokia tomorrow". However, I missed the announcement of the time & agenda. I would have thought it would have been on the Council blog, or maemo-community, but it was neither AFAICT.

SD69,

i just browsed some thru meego.com but couldn't find any forum comparable to TMO, with support for devices, software aso.
is this something that NOKIA is going to build until 2013 (on meego.com)?

otherwise, how is the support for Harmattan devices going to be provided?
where will the repositories be hosted?

just wondering, as i just realized that Harmattan support is de facto here on TMO too and the download section for handsets (on meego.com) seems pretty outdated (and not providing any repositories?); where will those be hosted, when N9s go on sales?

The council we have at the moment are very quiet which is the main reason it needs to be changed also from the point they do not seem to know what direction to go.

Honest opinion's are not slaunder by the way !.
