It's good that they're working on OVI maps (though the update doesn't really show anything special). I really hope they put a decent update in PR1.2 for it, as I think we've been patient enough with the lacking current version.

My biggest pet peeve? it only works in landscape and they put a HUGE current location button above your current position. That basically leaves you not many pixels to see what is coming in the road ahead. Handy? Well, at least I have a good view of where I've been or what I'm passing on each side.

shouldn't SOMEONE have thought that the current location either:
A. should be on bottom
B. should be smaller or even have a transparent / low alpha background
C. All of the above.

Where are the UI designers??

I'll believe it when I see it.
The first rumors said late february, then mid march, then late march... :D

This is a unique feature of Nokia: there is always a magical firmware update which everyone is waiting for. And when it is released, everyone is disappointed and is waiting for the next to fix everything. :D

Lol remember this my friend. Greed will kill a man, if a man using the N900 and installing applications from the Extra-Devel with greed then he'll kill his N900 instead.

People here have been warned about the Extra-Devel. And yet few of them didn't get through to some people.

Uninstall every apps or reflash will get your precious space back.

I got the real rumour about this firemware PR1.2.

This is true for EVERY phone maker - for the past 5 years or so, since so many features are mandatory in a high end phone. Every single one...
I have had them all. Nobody is ever pleased with the release of a new line and/or new OS - no matter who makes it. Features are missing, promised features work poorly, bugs, slowdowns, reboots, and the works...

My personal experience to support this:
First iphone, first blackberry bold, samsung omnia HD, P990, HTC Touch Diamond, blackberry storm, Android G1,


My personal conclusion: It is economically impossible to release a properly tested and stable new iteration of any mobile OS.

Buy a 2nd or 3rd generation and get a stable but un-exciting phone, or buy the first generation and have it crash, hung, and burn.

Since we are guessing; I Think the new firmware will arrive tomorrow. ( tuesday march 30 )
Dont know why, but I just got an update feeling ( or is it just that spring is finally about to arrive?!)

when I do a apt-get upgrade it is reporting me like 164 packages to update, most of them is system updates. I don't see any updates in app. manager. is this PR1.2 update?

I think it is. Firmware update, which is that 'Maemo 5' shown in the application manager is just a package with dependencies to the system packages. apt-get upgrade is showing the updated system packages for me as well. Qt is in there as well (libqt4-* not maemo5, which should be the case for 4.6 to replace the old 4.5.3).

there is something wrong in app manager, i had about 5 apps to update but i put it off until today, when i looked all updates are now missing and not showing up in UPDATE

Yeah, I did not update yet - there's no way of knowing whether that's all of it and if it's safe yet. I'll wait for the application manager notification.

it should be safe, they don't roll out parts, it's all or nothing. especially if in the app manager you have the maemo5 update available. if not hold a bit, but if it's there, it's definitely it.
