What live wallpaper theme are you running to see this much CPU usage? I use the Matrix one and I never see the livewp process take more then 15% (and even that is only when it spikes). Are you playing video on multiple desktops or something? If so, it would seem unfair to blame the application for high CPU usage. |

Thanks for a great application. I am currently using 0.8.5 and I do not see the option to mute sound in a video. You seem to imply that it was added in 0.7.1. Please verify if this feature was added and if so where may I find it. If it hasn't, kindly let us know when. Additionally, is there a recommended video format for smooth playback? I'm currently using a mpg video and the playback is quite choppy. Thanks! |

I've tried to add option 'Sound' in version 0.8.5. But I had no success  Sound after starting of Livewallpaper video stream is off, but if I've pressed hardware volume buttons in my n900 then the volume changes and sound is not silent in the video stream I've used options 'mute' and 'volume' from this page http://www.gstreamer.net/data/doc/gs...pulsesink.html And I've tried to direct audio stream to /dev/null. Then video stream doesn't work. Can anybody help me to deactivate sound in gstreamer? I can try to use Mplayer instead of gstreamer. But I need free time for it. Vlad. |

I put a few files on an old post a few pages back (post #240) called sunrise, clouds, waves try these they seem to work fine. sunrise, clouds, waves Also just to confirm cpu usage Waves 30fps mp4 shows 99% on systeminfowidget and matrix shows 40-44% |
Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
Hi guys.
Well, after trying Live Wallpapers, I've decided it's not for me. Great app and some good effects, but It's a bit heavy on the stock kernel. However I'm trying to uninstall it, but running into problems with Sherman's Aquarium. Live Wallpaper won't uninstall because it requires files from Sherman's Aquarium 3.0.1-9. But I've got that installed, and indeed it is v3.0.1-9. Cheers. |
Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
depending on the desktop i'm putting it, matrix always has at least 40% cpu usage.
on my "main" desktop 50% minimum. on the desktop with the facebook-widget it goes up to 90% when the widget scrolls text. its just too much usage. |
Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
The X-Savers are the prime suspect for me. 100% for most of those dropping to between 50 - 60%. The default Live backgrounds hover between 60 - 80%.
I managed to solve my uninstall problem in the end. Anyone else who has the same problem with Sherman's Aquarium and Live Wallpapers, you need to ignore what app manager is actually telling you and uninstall Sherman's Aquarium before Live Wallpapers. |
Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
maybe it would be less cpu-intensive to use a short digital-rain video file?
|
Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
Maybe a 5sec looping video would work well as long as the quality isn't set too high.
Having said that I was going to create a few short vids for it using Particle Illusion. That'll create rain type effects in various video formats. Might still have a play about though. |

found some, though they were in mov and wmv-format (worked, though). even though the longest one was 6 seconds, they would still use over 80% cpu. but obviously they werent optimized for the n900. |
Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
You tried running them through something like Format Factory or Super prior to transferring them to the N900?
I might just re-install Live Wallpaper later, just for testing purposes. Then make a few cheap and cheerful vids in Particle Illusion, see how they fare up. |

gotta say i wasnt able to find any proper free mp4-videofiles. i assume this codec is optimized for the n900 since the example video files on the n900 are mp4 as well. |

Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
hey vlad, heres a good example of interactivity on your live wallpaper.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qgMkjqFkrQ why dont you try programming your next live interactive wallpapers this way? just a thought. |
Re: Live Wallpaper discussion thread
it works very well here, after download Shermans Aquarium theme, I just press the unknown button and the theme button, then there is two choice :
Shermans aquarium & Xsnow (I don't DL this one yet) Maybe don't forget to press the enable button and save. |
